VALORANT VAN 1067 usually means Riot Vanguard could not initialize correctly or could not verify part of your system’s security configuration. Restart Windows first. Then check TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot if the full message mentions them, update Windows, reinstall Vanguard, and investigate conflicting software before reinstalling the entire game.
Do not assume every VAN 1067 case has the same cause. The complete message shown beside the code—and whether you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11—determines which fix is appropriate.
Quick checklist
- Close VALORANT and Riot Client, then choose Start → Power → Restart.
- Install pending updates under Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Check TPM 2.0 with
tpm.msc. - Check UEFI mode and Secure Boot with
msinfo32. - Reinstall Riot Vanguard before reinstalling VALORANT.
- Use a clean boot to test for incompatible drivers or background software.
- Run Windows repair commands if system corruption is possible.
- Send Riot Support the full error, system details, and Riot Repair Tool logs if VAN 1067 remains.
What does VAN 1067 mean?
VAN 1067 is a Riot Vanguard initialization or security-state error. It is not normally a graphics, gameplay, or password problem. Vanguard may have failed to start, may be damaged, or may be unable to verify a required Windows or firmware security state.

Possible causes include disabled or unrecognized TPM 2.0, disabled Secure Boot, legacy boot configuration, outdated Windows components, incompatible drivers, third-party security software, monitoring utilities, overlays, virtualization tools, or incomplete Vanguard files.

Riot’s Vanguard error-code material associates VAN 1067 with TPM 2.0 not being enabled, particularly in the Windows 11 context. However, public Riot documentation does not provide one equally detailed explanation for every VAN code. Prioritize the full accompanying message, rather than treating the number alone as proof that TPM is the cause.
Also distinguish VAN 1067 from related messages. VAN9001 and VAN9003 are more directly associated with TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements. VAN: RESTRICTION can show a more specific system-integrity, driver, or motherboard-security requirement, while STATUS_SB_POLICY follows a Secure Boot policy-related path. 1. Restart Windows completely
Close VALORANT and Riot Client, then use Start → Power → Restart. A restart reloads Vanguard’s service and driver more reliably than sleep, hibernate, or simply signing out. It also avoids assuming that a service failure requires manual manipulation.

2. Check TPM 2.0 in Windows
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
tpm.mscand press Enter. - Check the TPM management window.
You want to see:
- Status: “The TPM is ready for use”
- Specification Version:
2.0
A BIOS toggle by itself is not enough evidence. Windows must detect a ready TPM 2.0.
If Windows says a compatible TPM cannot be found, the firmware TPM may be disabled, the PC may not support TPM 2.0, the BIOS may be outdated, or the machine may have an unusual boot or security configuration. Windows 11 systems are especially likely to encounter Vanguard requirements involving TPM 2.0.

Do not clear the TPM as a routine VAN 1067 fix. Clearing it can affect Windows Hello, device encryption, BitLocker-related credentials, and other security data. Use Microsoft’s TPM 2.0 guidance for your specific PC.

3. Check Secure Boot and UEFI mode
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
msinfo32and press Enter. - Find BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State.
The usual target is:
- BIOS Mode:
UEFI - Secure Boot State:
On
Off means Secure Boot is disabled. Unsupported can indicate legacy BIOS/CSM mode or hardware without support. If BIOS Mode says Legacy, do not blindly switch to UEFI or Secure Boot. The Windows disk and boot configuration may need preparation first.
Before changing firmware settings, make sure you can access your BitLocker or device-encryption recovery key. Incorrect changes can prevent Windows from booting, and Riot notes that BIOS menus and options vary substantially by manufacturer.
4. Enable TPM and Secure Boot only when they are actually missing
Enter UEFI/BIOS using the key listed by your PC or motherboard manufacturer—commonly Delete, F2, F10, or Esc. Photograph or record the original settings before changing anything.
Enable firmware TPM
The option may appear under Security, Advanced, Trusted Computing, or Windows OS Configuration. Names vary:
- Intel: Intel PTT, Platform Trust Technology, or TPM Device Selection
- AMD: AMD fTPM, Firmware TPM, or AMD PSP fTPM
Enable the appropriate firmware TPM setting, save, reboot, and check tpm.msc again.

Enable Secure Boot safely
Change this only after msinfo32 confirms that Windows is using UEFI, or after the manufacturer’s instructions confirm the system is prepared. If the PC uses Legacy/CSM mode or an MBR Windows installation, switching directly to Secure Boot can cause a boot failure. GPT conversion may be required, which is an advanced operation that should be preceded by a backup.
In UEFI, you may need to disable CSM, enable Secure Boot, and load the factory-default Secure Boot keys if prompted. Save and reboot, then confirm Secure Boot State: On in msinfo32. If Windows will not boot, return to UEFI and restore the previous boot configuration; check that Windows Boot Manager is selected and be prepared to enter the BitLocker recovery key.
5. Update Windows, drivers, and firmware
Install all pending updates through Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, including relevant optional driver updates, and restart. Riot support identifies outdated Windows components as a possible cause of Vanguard installation and dependency problems.
If VAN 1067 began after hardware or firmware changes, also check the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s site for:
- Chipset drivers
- Storage-controller drivers
- Network drivers
- BIOS/UEFI updates
Only use firmware from the exact laptop or motherboard manufacturer and model. A BIOS update is not a universal VAN 1067 fix; it is most relevant when the manufacturer documents a TPM/Secure Boot issue or Vanguard displays a motherboard-related restriction.
6. Reinstall Riot Vanguard
Reinstall Vanguard before reinstalling VALORANT. This targets the anti-cheat component directly and avoids downloading the whole game unnecessarily.

- Exit VALORANT and Riot Client.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Riot Vanguard.
- Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Riot Client or VALORANT to trigger Vanguard’s installation.
- Restart again if prompted, then test the game.
Use Riot’s official reinstall procedure if the normal Installed apps path fails. Avoid registry cleaners, manually deleting protected driver files, or unofficial sc delete commands.
7. Check the Vanguard service
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
services.msc. - Find vgc.
- Check whether it is running and, where appropriate, set Startup type to Automatic.
- Start or restart the service, reboot Windows, and test VALORANT.
If the service repeatedly stops, do not treat forced service manipulation as a guaranteed solution. That behavior can indicate damaged Vanguard files, a blocked driver, incompatible software, or a Windows problem. Reinstall Vanguard and continue with the conflict and repair steps instead.
8. Repair Windows system files
Use these commands later in the process, especially if the problem began after a failed update or Windows reports corruption. Open Windows Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator and run:
sfc /scannowWhen it finishes, restart and test the game. If corruption is reported or the issue continues, run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthRestart Windows again. Riot includes SFC, DISM, Windows updates, and related system-integrity checks in troubleshooting for certain Vanguard restriction cases.

Low-level software can interfere with Vanguard even when TPM and Secure Boot are correct. Investigate:

- Third-party antivirus or endpoint-security software
- Hardware monitoring and overclocking tools
- RGB and motherboard-control utilities
- Overlays and game-capture programs
- Virtual-machine or emulator software
- Another game’s kernel-level anti-cheat
- Old or unsigned drivers
- VPN, packet-capture, network-filter, or audio-routing software
Use Windows’ System Configuration clean-boot process to test whether a background service is responsible. If VALORANT works in a clean boot, re-enable services in groups until the conflict is identified, then update or remove the offending component.
Do not permanently disable antivirus, Windows security features, virtualization protections, or Memory Integrity as a generic fix. If security software is suspected, temporarily test according to its vendor’s instructions, add official Riot exceptions where appropriate, and restore protection afterward.
10. Clear Riot configuration only as a later step
Corrupted local Riot or VALORANT configuration can sometimes prevent launch, but clearing it may reset settings and keybinds. Follow Riot’s current launch-troubleshooting instructions for the specific folders under:

11. Reinstall VALORANT only after Vanguard troubleshooting
A complete game reinstall is reasonable if Vanguard has been reinstalled, Windows is updated, security settings are correct where required, and software conflicts have been ruled out. It is not a good first response to VAN 1067 because a reinstall cannot correct a Legacy/UEFI mismatch, disabled TPM, blocked driver, or damaged Windows component.
When to stop changing BIOS settings
If tpm.msc shows a ready TPM 2.0, msinfo32 shows the expected Secure Boot state, and the full message does not request a different firmware change, stop experimenting in BIOS. The more likely branches are Vanguard installation, Windows integrity, incompatible drivers, or background software.
For VAN: RESTRICTION, follow the exact checklist displayed by Vanguard instead of treating it as an ordinary VAN 1067 reinstall problem. Riot has described newer restrictions involving boot security, conflicting drivers, and motherboard pre-boot security or firmware conditions.

Contact Riot Support with useful evidence
Contact Riot when TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are verified but VAN 1067 persists, Vanguard repeatedly fails to reinstall, a restriction message appears, the issue follows a BIOS or Windows update, or the PC crashes with a Vanguard-related driver error.
Include:
- The exact VAN code and complete message
- Windows edition and version
- The
msinfo32values for BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State - The
tpm.mscstatus and specification version - Your laptop or motherboard model
- When the issue began and any recent BIOS, Windows, driver, or hardware changes
- Any crash, BSOD, or
vgk.sysdetails - Logs collected with Riot Repair Tool
Use Riot’s VALORANT support form and attach the requested information. This gives support something actionable to investigate instead of another generic reinstall request.
