If Apex Legends opens but gets stuck on Continue, spins endlessly, or cannot load the lobby, start by checking EA and platform service status and confirming the game has finished updating. Then fully restart the game and device. If services are working and the problem persists, use the repair, cache, network, or account steps below that match what you see. Reinstalling is a last resort: it will not fix an outage or a sign-in problem.
1. Check whether Apex or your platform is down
Before changing files or network settings, check the EA server-status page for Apex Legends and your platform. Also check the relevant service page for PlayStation Network, Xbox, Steam, or Nintendo, and look for official EA or Apex announcements about maintenance or an incident.
If many players report the same failure, or the status page shows a disruption, wait for service to recover and try again. A status page marked operational cannot rule out a new, regional, or account-specific problem, but repeated local fixes will not repair an EA or platform outage.

Apex can appear stuck while a platform downloads or applies an update. On PC, check the Downloads area in Steam or the library/update area in the EA app or Epic Games Store. Let both the game and launcher finish updating, then restart the launcher. EA notes that a progress bar on Apex’s launch screen can indicate that Steam is updating the game in the background; wait for it to finish before troubleshooting further (EA error-code guidance).

On console, check Apex’s update status and install pending game or system updates. If a download is visibly stalled, pause and resume it, then restart the console once it completes.
- Close Apex completely; do not just switch away from it.
- On PC, exit Steam or the EA app as well.
- Restart the PC or console.
- If other online services are also failing, power off the router, wait about 30 seconds, turn it back on, and wait for the connection to return.
- Launch Apex again.
This is a low-risk reset, not a guaranteed fix. If other games and devices work normally, avoid repeatedly rebooting the router without evidence that the home connection is involved.
3. Repair the installation on PC
EA app
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find Apex Legends and select its Manage (three-dot) menu.
- Choose Repair.
- Let the scan and any replacement download finish, then restart the app and launch the game.
EA’s current repair guidance uses the Library and Manage menu (EA app and game troubleshooting).

- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click Apex Legends and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to complete its check and reacquire any files, then restart Steam and Apex.
Steam’s file-verification guidance explains how to check and repair installed files. Verification can replace or reacquire files; it will not fix a server outage, wrong account link, or every anti-cheat problem.
Epic Games Store
In Epic Games Store, open your Library, use the game’s options menu, and choose its built-in verification option. The exact label or menu placement can change, so follow the current launcher interface. Let the check complete before relaunching.
4. Clear the EA app or console cache
EA app cache
Use this if the EA app is stuck offline, has trouble updating, stalls downloads, or shows a game as missing or unavailable:
- Open the EA app and select the three-line menu in the upper-left corner.
- Choose Help, then App Recovery.
- Select Clear cache and restart the app.
If the EA app will not open, use Windows Start → All Apps → EA → App Recovery → Clear Cache. See EA’s cache-clearing instructions. Clearing an app cache cannot repair a service outage.

PlayStation
Close Apex, restart the console, check PlayStation Network status, and install pending updates. If loading or connection trouble continues, use the cache or database-recovery options available in PlayStation Safe Mode for your console model. Sony’s options and instructions can vary by model and software version, so consult current PlayStation Safe Mode guidance rather than relying on an old button sequence. EA also recommends a Safe Mode restart for persistent connection problems (EA connection troubleshooting).
Xbox
Quit Apex from the Xbox guide rather than leaving it suspended, restart the console, check Xbox service status, and install pending updates. Then reopen the game. EA’s connection guidance includes restarting Xbox to clear its cache.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Restart the console, confirm it is online, check for a game update, and use the current system settings to clear the console cache before reopening Apex. Do not assume the original Switch and Switch 2 have identical menus or storage behavior. EA’s download page refers to Switch 2 and notes that players who had Apex installed before August 5, 2025, may need to update it; consult the current instructions for your model: EA’s Apex download guidance.
5. Test the connection and EA-account sign-in
If you reach the title screen but cannot load the lobby, the issue may be the route to EA services or account authentication rather than the installation.

- Pause large downloads and streaming; temporarily close VPNs, proxies, and other bandwidth-heavy applications.
- If practical, try Apex on a phone hotspot. If it works there but not on home Wi-Fi, investigate the router, ISP, firewall, parental controls, NAT, or DNS. If it fails on both, look again at service status, the account, the platform, or game files.
- Check whether other online games and your platform’s store work.
EA recommends checking service status, closing background applications, restarting platform hardware, and using Ethernet where appropriate in its connection troubleshooting guide.
DNS changes are optional experiments, not a universal Apex fix. If you try one, record your original settings first, use a reputable provider, change only DNS, and revert if it does not help. DNS cannot repair an outage or corrupted game files.
Confirm that the launcher or console is signed into the EA Account you intend to use and that the correct Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or Epic account is linked. On PC, avoid launching Apex simultaneously through Steam and the EA app with the same linked account; EA warns this can cause progression issues (Apex FAQ). Do not unlink accounts as a routine fix: EA warns that changing an account link can have consequences. Check the EA account-linking guidance first. If only one account is affected, prioritize account authentication, linking, and any account restriction rather than reinstalling.

6. If Apex crashes or an anti-cheat error appears
A game that closes to the desktop or home screen is different from one that keeps spinning. On PC, repair or verify files first, restart, update Windows and your graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer, and temporarily close overlays or nonessential background tools. Examples include Discord, Steam or EA overlays, GPU recording tools, hardware-monitoring or RGB utilities, VPNs, and aggressive antivirus or firewall features. If the crash continues, EA recommends troubleshooting background applications, including a clean boot when appropriate (EA crash and freeze guidance).

For an anti-cheat integrity message or code 30005, repair the game and follow EA’s current instructions for the exact error. Do not download unofficial DLLs, anti-cheat replacements, launchers, or scripts. EA’s Apex error-code page gives error-specific guidance and possible causes; a code is a clue, not always a definitive diagnosis.

When to reinstall—and when to stop
Reinstall only when the issue appears isolated to one installation and you have already checked service status, completed updates, repaired or verified files, and tried relevant cache steps. Confirm which EA Account is linked before making account changes. Reinstallation may replace persistently missing or damaged local files, but it cannot fix an outage, platform-service failure, account-link issue, or ISP routing problem.
Use evidence to narrow the cause: if a hotspot works but home Wi-Fi does not, investigate the home connection; if another platform works but one does not, focus on that platform or installation; if another account works on the same device, focus on the affected account. Avoid deleting account data, unlinking accounts, changing DNS, MTU, port forwarding, and firewall rules all at once, or running scripts found in forums. Those steps make diagnosis harder and can create new problems.
If none of the fixes work
Write down your platform and launcher, region, exact screen or error code, and the date and time of the failure. Note whether another account, device, platform, or network can load the game, and save a screenshot or short video if useful. Then use the Apex support hub for EA account or game issues. Contact Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Steam, or Epic if the evidence points to that platform or store.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Apex down, or is it just me?
Check EA’s server-status page, your platform’s service status, and official Apex or EA announcements. A reported outage affecting many players points to a service issue; an operational status page does not rule out a regional or newly emerging problem.

Does reinstalling Apex delete my progress?
Progress is associated with your EA Account and linked platform account, but a reinstall is not a fix for account-link problems. Confirm you know which EA Account is linked before changing accounts or links.
Should I change my DNS?
Not as a first step. Try another network or a wired connection first. If you experiment with DNS, record the original settings and revert if it does not help; DNS will not fix an outage or damaged files.
Why does Apex work on a hotspot but not on Wi-Fi?
That points toward your home network path—such as the router, ISP, DNS, firewall, NAT, or parental controls—rather than the game installation. Change one setting at a time so you can identify the cause.
Can I unlink and relink my Steam or console account?
Do not do this casually. EA warns that unlinking can have consequences for access or progression. Verify the account relationship and review EA’s linking guidance before changing it.
What if the menu loads but the store or friends list does not?
The game has reached the menu, but a particular account or online service may still be failing. Check service status and connection, then confirm you are signed into the intended EA Account. Avoid reinstalling unless other evidence points to damaged local files.
How long should I wait during a server outage?
There is no reliable fixed wait time. Follow official status updates and retry after the service is reported restored; repeated local repairs will not shorten an outage.
