If Disney+ keeps closing, freezing, or returning to your device’s home screen, start with the low-risk fixes: fully close the app, restart the device, check the internet connection, update Disney+ and the device software, then clear cached data or reinstall the app. If Disney+ fails on several unrelated devices while other services work, the problem may be on Disney’s side rather than with your TV or phone.
First, identify what is actually crashing
“Disney+ is crashing” can describe several different problems:
- The app closes immediately after launching.
- It reaches the Disney+ logo and returns to the home screen.
- The screen freezes, stays blank, or shows a spinning wheel.
- The app fails after choosing a profile.
- It crashes only when playback starts, after an advertisement, while seeking, or when changing episodes.
- Disney+ works on one device but not another.
- Disney+ fails everywhere in the home.
The location and timing of the failure determine whether to investigate the app, device, network, account, or Disney’s service.
Step 1: Check whether Disney+ or your device is at fault
- Try a different Disney+ title.
- Open another streaming app on the same device.
- Try Disney+ in a supported browser or on a second device.
- If possible, test another internet connection, such as a phone hotspot. Use this only as a diagnostic test; it is not necessarily a permanent solution.
| What you observe | Likely area to investigate |
|---|---|
| Disney+ and other apps crash | Device storage, overheating, operating system, memory, or hardware |
| Only Disney+ crashes | App data, installation, compatibility, or a Disney+ software problem |
| Disney+ works in a browser but not the app | Native app data, app version, or device compatibility |
| Disney+ fails on every device | Internet, account, regional availability, or a Disney service problem |
| Only one title fails | Title-specific playback or service-side issue |
| The crash began after a TV or app update | Possible compatibility or update-related defect; this is not confirmed without an official diagnosis |
Do not treat one report from an outage-tracking site as proof that Disney+ is down. Several unrelated devices failing at the same time is stronger evidence of a service-side problem. Disney’s Fix A Problem section includes separate guidance for outages, blank screens, spinning wheels, connection tests, power cycling, and cache clearing.

Step 2: Fully close Disney+ and restart the device
Pressing the Home button usually leaves an app suspended; it does not necessarily close it. Use the device’s app switcher or force-close option to exit Disney+, then open it again and test a different title.
If that fails, restart the phone, tablet, computer, streaming stick, game console, or TV. A proper power cycle is more than turning off a television with the remote:
- Close Disney+.
- Turn off the device.
- If a normal restart does not help, disconnect the device from power according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Reconnect it and wait for the device to complete a full boot.
- Open Disney+ before launching several other apps.
For connection-related symptoms, restart the modem and router as well. The exact restart procedure and waiting time vary by device, so avoid assuming that every TV or streaming stick behaves the same way.

If other apps also buffer, fail to load, or crash, troubleshoot the network before resetting Disney+. Test the service near the router, restart the network equipment, and compare wired and wireless connections where available.
VPNs, DNS filters, ad blockers, parental-control systems, and other network-level filters can interfere with authentication or playback. Temporarily test without such a service if you control it, but do not permanently disable security features without understanding the consequences. An HDMI or HDCP problem can also look like a playback failure; test the TV’s built-in Disney+ app directly and, only as a diagnostic, remove intermediary receivers or splitters.
Step 4: Update both Disney+ and the device
Check for updates in two places:
- Disney+: Open the device’s official app store and install any available update.
- Device software: Update the phone or tablet operating system, TV firmware, streaming-device software, game-console software, browser, or computer operating system.
An update can fix a crash, but a newly released version can also introduce a platform-specific defect. If the problem began immediately after an update, record the app version, device model, operating-system version, and exact crash behavior for Disney+ support. Do not assume that a particular build is responsible unless Disney or the device manufacturer confirms it.

Step 5: Clear the cache or app data
Clear cache removes temporary files and is normally the least disruptive option. Clear data or storage resets more local app information, may sign you out, and can remove downloads or other offline state. Menu names vary by model and software version.

Android phones and tablets
Where available, go to Settings → Apps → Disney+ → Storage → Clear Cache. If that does not help, use Clear Data. Disney notes that cached-data controls are available only on select Android models.
Android TV and Google TV
A typical route is Settings → Applications → Disney+ → Clear Cache, followed by Clear Data if necessary. Exact labels differ between Android TV, Google TV, and manufacturers.
Fire TV and Fire TV Stick
Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Disney+ → Clear Cache. You can then use Clear Data if clearing the cache does not help. Amazon also recommends clearing an affected app’s data or restarting Fire TV when an app crashes or will not load.

Chromecast
For Chromecast built-in, Disney lists Settings → Apps → Chromecast built-in → Clear Data → OK → Clear Cache → OK, followed by a TV restart. If you cast from a phone or tablet, troubleshoot that device too.
Roku
Roku’s current guidance may involve updating the channel or removing and reinstalling it. Roku menu labels and channel-management steps vary by device software. Use Roku’s official playback troubleshooting page rather than applying an Android-style cache path.

Step 6: Deactivate and reactivate the device
Disney includes deactivating and reactivating the device after cache and data troubleshooting. This can help when the app opens but fails during authentication, profile selection, or device registration. Keep your Disney+ email address and password available. You may need to sign in again or activate the device with a code.
Step 7: Reinstall Disney+
Reinstall only after closing the app, checking the connection, restarting, updating, and clearing cache or data where possible. Before removing Disney+:
- Confirm that you know the account email address and password.
- Expect to sign in again.
- Expect TV or streaming-device activation to be required again.
- Understand that downloaded content may be removed and need to be downloaded again.
Then uninstall Disney+, restart the device if appropriate, install the app from the official app store, sign in, and test a different title before restoring downloads or changing advanced settings. Reinstallation cannot fix an outage, unsupported hardware, a failing device, or network filtering.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Platform-specific situations
Disney+ crashes only on an older TV
Check Disney’s supported-device list before repeatedly resetting the television. Compatibility and availability vary by territory and device generation. If the TV no longer receives current Disney+ updates, use a supported Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast or Google TV device, game console, computer, or casting method if available.
Disney+ crashes after an advertisement
This may involve the app version, ad-delivery path, network filtering, or a platform-specific bug. Test another title, another connection, and another device. Do not assume that changing subscription plans will repair app stability.

Disney+ crashes after choosing a profile
Sign out and back in if possible, clear app data after confirming your credentials, and test the account on another device. If one profile fails while another works, report that detail to Disney rather than immediately factory-resetting the device.
Disney+ works on a phone but not a TV
The TV app, TV firmware, storage, or device generation is more likely to be involved than the subscription itself. Update the TV, clear its app data if supported, reinstall Disney+, and compare the TV with another supported playback method on the same network.
What not to do
- Do not factory-reset the TV or streaming device as the first response to one app crashing. A factory reset removes settings and other apps and should be a last resort after consulting Disney and the device manufacturer.
- Do not install unofficial APKs or modified Disney+ apps.
- Do not declare an outage based on a single third-party report.
- Do not treat anecdotal reports about a specific app build or another installed app as a confirmed root cause.
- Do not assume every smart TV supports the current Disney+ app.
When to contact Disney+ support
Contact Disney through its current Help Center troubleshooting page if the problem continues after the official sequence or affects multiple devices. Live-support availability and contact methods can vary by region, so use the current help page rather than relying on an old phone number.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Disney+ keep crashing but Netflix works?
If Netflix and other apps work, the problem is more likely to be Disney+ app data, its installation, compatibility, or a Disney-side issue. Update Disney+, clear its cache or data where available, and reinstall only after the lower-risk steps.
Will clearing Disney+ data delete my subscription?
No. Clearing app data resets local app information; it does not cancel the subscription. It can sign you out and remove local downloads, so keep your login details available.
Will reinstalling Disney+ remove downloads?
It may. Treat offline downloads as removable and expect to download them again after signing in.
Should I replace my TV or streaming stick?
Consider replacement only when the device is unsupported, no longer receives updates, crashes with multiple apps, or repeatedly fails while Disney+ works on another device on the same network.
Is Disney+ down or is my device the problem?
Test another title, another app, a browser, and a second device. Disney+ failing across several unrelated devices while other services work suggests a service-side problem, but only Disney can confirm the outage.
