If Soundpad plays audio that you can hear but nobody in Discord can hear, first make Soundpad and Discord use the same physical microphone. Then disable Discord’s noise-processing features, test while transmitting, and check Soundpad’s play mode and microphone volume. Soundpad normally extends a configured recording device; it does not usually appear as a separate “Soundpad microphone” in Discord.
For most users, the fastest path is Soundpad’s Discord troubleshooting sequence: match the input device, choose a Custom Input Profile where available, disable processing, and change Soundpad’s setup mode only if the transmission path still fails.
Identify what is failing

Hearing a clip through your headphones proves only that Soundpad is playing it locally. It does not prove that the clip is reaching Discord.
The fastest fix
- Open Discord and go to User Settings → Voice & Video.
- Under Input Device, explicitly select the microphone that Soundpad uses. Do not rely on Default while troubleshooting.
- Choose a Custom Input Profile, if that option is available.
- Disable Noise Suppression, Echo Cancellation, Automatic Gain Control, and Bypass System Audio Input Processing.
- Join a private call or test channel. If Discord uses push-to-talk, hold its push-to-talk key while playing the Soundpad clip.
Discord’s labels can vary by release, and some controls may be under Advanced Voice Settings. Disabling processing can let sound effects through, but it may also increase keyboard noise, background noise, or echo.

1. Check Soundpad’s microphone
In Soundpad, open File → Preferences → Devices. Find the microphone connected to your headset, USB microphone, or audio interface and verify that:
- The intended device is listed.
- Its Use checkbox is enabled.
- The device status is healthy or green.
- It is the microphone currently connected and in use.
Soundpad’s standard setup extends the selected recording device rather than requiring Discord to select a separate virtual microphone. The exact device name must therefore match between Soundpad and Discord. See the Soundpad device configuration manual.
2. Select the same device in Discord
Open User Settings → Voice & Video → Input Device and select the exact microphone enabled in Soundpad. This matters especially when Windows has several inputs, such as a laptop microphone, webcam, headset, USB microphone, or audio-interface input.

3. Confirm Windows sees the microphone
- Press Win + R.
- Enter
mmsys.cpland press Enter. - Open the Recording tab.
- Confirm the intended microphone is enabled and not muted.
- Check that its level is not extremely low.
If the microphone is missing here, the problem is below Discord and Soundpad. Reconnect the device and check its manufacturer’s driver or Windows device settings.
4. Allow microphone access in Windows
Open Windows Settings and go to Privacy & security → Microphone on Windows 11. Windows 10 uses similar Privacy settings. Enable:
- Microphone access.
- Permission for apps to access the microphone.
- Permission for desktop apps to access the microphone.
These permissions are particularly important when Discord’s microphone test is silent or the input device is not detected. Discord documents microphone permissions among its standard audio-input checks.
5. Test transmission correctly
Use a short, loud clip and test in Discord itself:
- Open Soundpad.
- Join a private Discord call or another safe test channel.
- If push-to-talk is enabled, hold Discord’s push-to-talk key.
- Play the clip.
- Ask the other participant whether they hear your voice, the clip, both, or neither.
Windows recording panels and some microphone-recording websites can bypass Soundpad or remove background noise, so they can produce misleading results. Soundpad recommends testing through Discord, Windows Voice Recorder, or its own self-check; use Discord or a private call to confirm the final result.

6. Check Discord’s input mode
Push-to-talk
Pressing a Soundpad hotkey does not automatically transmit audio when Discord is waiting for push-to-talk. Hold the Discord key while the clip plays. If needed, configure Soundpad’s Auto Keys feature to hold Discord’s push-to-talk key during playback. See Soundpad’s push-to-talk guidance.
Voice activity
If Discord uses voice activity, lower the input-sensitivity threshold if a clip is too quiet to trigger transmission. Test with a loud, short sound first. If the beginning is consistently missing, Soundpad’s voice-activation sound can trigger transmission just before the clip begins.
7. Correct Soundpad’s play mode and volume
Set the play mode
If you want to hear the clip and send it to other people, right-click Soundpad’s first status-bar icon and set the play mode to Default (speakers and microphone). A speakers-only mode can make the sound audible to you while keeping it out of the microphone path. Soundpad documents these modes in its general FAQ.

Open File → Preferences → Audio, use Soundpad’s voice-volume measurement tool, follow its recording instructions, stop the measurement, and apply the result.

Soundpad recommends a measured voice volume above 74 dB because some voice applications may filter quieter played sounds. This is Soundpad’s troubleshooting guidance, not a universal Discord requirement or guarantee. If the measurement is low, increase the overall Windows microphone level carefully; excessive gain can cause clipping and background noise.
Know which volume you are changing
- Soundpad speaker-output volume: what you hear.
- Soundpad microphone-output volume: what other people hear.
- Windows microphone level: the system input level.
Changing the normal Windows microphone level does not necessarily change Soundpad’s separate microphone-output volume. Adjust the correct control for the symptom.

If normal speech works but clips still do not transmit, open Discord’s Voice & Video settings and find Audio Subsystem. Test Standard, restart Discord if prompted, and then test Legacy if Standard does not help. These are troubleshooting alternatives, not guaranteed fixes. Discord recommends trying both for persistent voice problems.

If you use Discord in a browser, available system-processing controls may differ from the desktop app. Soundpad guidance notes that browser use can require a different setup mode, so test the desktop Discord application separately before changing several settings at once.

9. Change Soundpad’s setup mode
Use this step when the microphone and Discord settings are correct but no transmitted Soundpad audio is heard at all. Do not start here merely because the audio quality is low.
- Open Soundpad → File → Preferences → Devices.
- Right-click the affected microphone.
- Choose Set setup mode.
- Select another available mode.
- Click Start setup test.
- Apply the mode that preserves both your voice and the sound effects.
Available modes depend on the device, drivers, and system. Changing a mode may interrupt applications currently recording from the microphone, so close voice chats, games, streaming software, voice changers, and manufacturer audio suites first. 10. Restart the complete audio chain
- Exit Discord completely, including its system-tray process.
- Close Soundpad.
- Disconnect and reconnect the microphone or headset.
- Start Soundpad and recheck its device.
- Start Discord and recheck its input device.
- Test in a private call.
This is worthwhile after changing hardware, setup modes, drivers, or Discord audio settings.

Advanced fixes
Update or change drivers
Only after routing, permissions, processing, and setup-mode checks should you update drivers. Use the computer, motherboard, headset, USB-interface, or audio-device manufacturer’s official support page. Soundpad documents Microsoft’s High Definition Audio Device driver as an alternative for some compatibility problems. If a driver change makes the microphone worse, roll it back rather than installing random packages from third-party download sites.
Generate a Soundpad diagnostic report
If the problem remains, open Soundpad → Help → Troubleshooting and save the diagnostic report to a text file. Include it with a bug report to Soundpad support. This is more useful than repeatedly reinstalling the application. See Soundpad’s “others hear no sound” troubleshooting page.
Do you need another soundboard?
Usually not. Reinstalling Soundpad or buying another tool will not correct a wrong Discord input device, blocked Windows microphone access, or aggressive noise suppression.
Soundpad is a Windows soundboard designed to extend a recording device, and its Steam listing says that an audio recording device is required. A virtual-microphone tool may be preferable only if you specifically need an independently selectable input device, multi-application routing, or a broader voice-effects suite. For example, Voicemod’s official Discord setup guide instructs users to select its virtual audio device as Discord’s microphone. That adds another routing layer and another device that can be selected incorrectly.
