If a Snap is stuck on Sending, marked Pending, or fails with an error, first switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then close and reopen Snapchat. Update the app, clear its in-app cache, and restart your device if it still will not send. If the failure affects only one person, test a different recipient; if several Snapchat features fail at once, check for a service problem before repeating sends.
Try these fixes first
- Check the scope: See whether Chats or other Snaps also fail. A failure across Snapchat points more toward connectivity, the app, or a service issue than one particular Snap.
- Switch networks: Turn off Wi-Fi and try mobile data, then try a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Move somewhere with stronger reception if needed. Snapchat recommends switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data when features are not working (Snapchat’s Snaps troubleshooting guide).
- Fully close and reopen Snapchat: Open your phone’s app switcher or recent-apps screen, swipe Snapchat away or use the close control, wait briefly, and relaunch it.
- Update Snapchat: On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, find pending updates, and tap Update next to Snapchat. On Android, open Google Play Store, find Snapchat, and tap Update. Use the official store for your device; Snapchat also distributes the app through Amazon Appstore on supported devices. Snapchat recommends that both sender and recipient use current versions (update and installation help).
- Clear Snapchat’s in-app cache using the platform-specific paths below.
- Restart the device: Power it completely off, leave it off for about one minute, then turn it on and reconnect. This is among Snapchat’s recommended fixes for Snaps that will not send or load.
- Run a diagnostic test: Send a new, small test Snap to another friend, or to a private Story. This is a troubleshooting test, not a Snapchat requirement. Avoid repeatedly tapping Send on a sensitive Snap: wait for the app to update and check the conversation before trying again, so you do not create uncertainty about whether it eventually went through.
Use the symptom to choose the next check
| What you see | What it may indicate | Useful first check |
|---|---|---|
| Every Snap fails | Network, app, or Snapchat service problem | Switch networks and see whether other Snapchat features load. |
| Snaps fail but Chats work | Media upload, permissions, storage, or an app fault | Try a photo versus a video, then check permissions and free space. |
| Only video Snaps fail | Unstable upload, low storage, permissions, or media processing trouble | Check available device space and camera or microphone access; try a short video on a stronger connection. |
| Only one friend is affected | Recipient availability, account relationship, or conversation sync issue | Send a new test Snap to someone else. |
| Snapchat itself will not load or crashes | App, operating-system, network, or service problem | Update the app, restart the device, and test another network. |
| A lock or security message appears | Account restriction rather than an ordinary send glitch | Use Snapchat’s official account-lock process. |
Sending that never finishes can mean an upload interruption, a connection problem, or an app that cannot reach Snapchat’s servers. Pending or a warning icon does not by itself prove that the recipient blocked you. Icon colors and labels can differ across app versions and devices, so use whether the failure affects one conversation or all sending as the more useful clue.
Clear Snapchat’s cache safely
Use Snapchat’s own cache control rather than Android’s system-level Clear storage or Clear data command. Menu labels can vary slightly by platform and app build; Snapchat support sometimes documents an additional Clear Data menu before Clear Cache.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Snapchat and tap your Profile icon.
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Scroll to App & Privacy, then tap My Privacy & Data.
- Under Manage My Data, tap Clear Cache, then confirm with Clear.
Android
- Open Snapchat and tap your Profile icon.
- Tap the gear icon, then go to App & Privacy → My Privacy & Data.
- Under Manage My Data, tap Clear Cache, then tap Continue to confirm.
Snapchat says clearing its in-app cache does not delete Memories, Snaps, or Chats (Chat troubleshooting). It is different from Android’s Settings → Apps → Snapchat → Clear storage/data, which can remove local app data and make you sign in again. For the cache paths, see Snapchat’s Memories backup and cache instructions.

Check the connection, permissions, and storage
Rule out a network problem
- Open another app or website to confirm that the device is online.
- Turn Airplane Mode on, wait several seconds, then turn it off.
- Try both Wi-Fi and mobile data, and move closer to the router or to better cellular reception.
- As a temporary isolation test, disable a VPN, proxy, restrictive firewall, or content filter, then retry. Snapchat’s cited guidance does not establish VPNs as a universal cause.
- If Snapchat works on one network but not another, contact the relevant internet or mobile provider. Device data restrictions, battery-saving settings, parental controls, or school and workplace networks are also possible things to check, not proven causes in every case.
Snapchat notes that poor reception, Wi-Fi trouble, and server issues can all prevent the app from connecting to its servers (“Could not refresh messages” troubleshooting).
Check permissions when media features fail
Permissions matter most if Snapchat cannot access the camera, video or audio capture fails, or a camera-roll photo or video will not send. In Snapchat, open Profile → gear icon → App & Privacy → My Privacy & Data → Permissions. Check Camera and Microphone for recording; check Photos on iOS or relevant storage access on Android for camera-roll media. Snapchat documents these controls for iOS and Android. Location access is not normally needed to send an ordinary Snap.
Make room on the device
A nearly full phone can interfere with capturing, processing, or caching media. Clear Snapchat’s in-app cache first; if storage is still critically low, move or delete unrelated large files. Snapchat describes cache as settings and cached content, not saved Memories, Snaps, or Chats.
When the problem affects one person
Send a new test Snap to a different friend. If that works, the fault is more likely specific to the recipient or conversation than to sending generally. The other person may be offline, using an older app version, or dealing with their own connection issue; refreshing a conversation may also help.
A deleted account or a block can affect account interactions, but a failed or Pending Snap alone does not establish either. Snapchat’s documentation about blocked users and deleted accounts is focused on adding friends, so treat those as possible clues—not proof of why a Snap failed (Snapchat’s guidance on adding friends). If your test Snap also fails for other people, return to network, app, device, and service checks.
Check whether Snapchat has a service problem
Look for official Snapchat system-status information when several features fail together, friends in different locations report the same issue, or network switching and the basic app fixes have not helped. A failed send on one device does not establish that Snapchat is down. If the app reports a server or connection error, Snapchat’s server-connection guidance explains why a local connection problem and a service problem can look similar. If an outage is confirmed, wait for service to recover instead of repeatedly changing phone settings.

Take care before logging out or reinstalling
Logging out or reinstalling is a later step, not a first fix. Before either, confirm you know your password and can access any verification method required to sign back in. Snapchat warns users to make sure Memories are fully backed up before logging out, changing devices, or uninstalling; check the app’s Memories backup status first (Memories backup guidance). Do not use Android’s system Clear storage/data setting as a shortcut for clearing Snapchat’s cache.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If Snapchat says your account is locked
A clear lock or security message calls for account recovery, not repeated send attempts. Snapchat says accounts can be locked for reasons including suspicious activity, suspected compromise, Terms of Service or Community Guidelines violations, banned-device access, or use of unauthorized third-party apps. Use Snapchat’s official account-lock instructions: depending on the case, a temporary lock may require waiting or using the Accounts Portal’s Unlock option, while eligible appeals must use Snapchat’s in-app appeal process. Remove unauthorized apps or modifications if applicable. A permanently locked account may not be unlockable; avoid anyone offering a paid or unofficial unlock service.
Report a persistent sending bug
If sending still fails after the app is updated, the connection tested, Snapchat reopened, and the cache cleared, report the issue in the app: Profile screen → gear icon → Bugs and Suggestions → Report a Bug. Include details that help distinguish a device problem from a wider one:
- Phone model and iOS or Android version.
- Snapchat version.
- Whether the issue affects photos, videos, Chats, Stories, or all sending.
- The exact error text or code and when the problem began.
- Whether you tested Wi-Fi and mobile data, and whether other Snapchat users are affected.
Snapchat says it cannot respond to all feedback, so reporting a bug is not a promise of a personal reply or immediate fix (Snapchat help topic).
Can a failed Snap be recovered?
A Snap that still appears to be pending may not have completed its upload, so check the conversation’s current state before sending it again. Do not assume every failed Snap is recoverable: Snapchat says deleted, viewed, or expired Snaps and Chats generally cannot be recovered unless they were saved (Snapchat’s content-recovery guidance).
