Most failures come from an invalid poll setup, an outdated or blocked app/browser, a closed poll, or an account and service-side restriction—not from needing X Premium. Check the poll rules first, then test the official app and x.com with VPNs and extensions disabled.
Check X’s current poll rules
X’s official help page currently documents these requirements:

These rules and the creation procedure are documented at X’s poll help page. If a draft breaks any rule, remove the photo, shorten an answer, add missing text or choices, or select a valid duration.
Identify the symptom before changing settings
The Add poll button is missing
- Start a brand-new post, not a reply, in the official X app or at x.com.
- Update the app or browser, then reload the compose screen.
- Try a private/incognito browser window.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy or script extensions, VPNs and network filters.
- Test the same account on another device or platform.
A missing control on both current web and mobile clients points to an account, interface or X service problem rather than ordinary cached data.

X will not post the poll
- Confirm that the main post contains text.
- Enter two, three or four choices only.
- Keep every choice at 25 characters or fewer.
- Set the duration between 5 minutes and 7 days.
- Remove any attached photo.
- Read the exact error. A posting-limit, security or account-status message is a broader restriction, not a poll-format error.
Do not buy Premium as a generic fix. X’s Premium feature list does not identify poll creation as Premium-only.
The poll posted but cannot be voted in
- Check the remaining time beneath the choices. An expired poll no longer accepts votes.
- Make sure you have not already voted; X allows one vote per poll.
- Refresh once and try the official app if you are on the web, or the web if you are in the app.
- Check that the post still exists and has not been deleted or restricted.
Missing voter names are expected: poll voting is private.
The vote does not appear to register
- Tap or click the option once.
- Look for the checkmark beside your selection and the result count.
- Refresh the post once rather than repeatedly tapping.
- Try another client and confirm the poll is still open.
X says results appear after voting, while the current count and remaining time appear below the choices. Counts can take a moment to refresh; a public list of voters will never appear.

The poll is visible but results or a winner are missing
A live poll shows results after you vote. The winning choice is shown in bold only after the selected duration ends. Durations range from 5 minutes to 7 days, so an apparently incomplete result may simply be an open poll.
Fast fixes that protect your draft
Save the question and choices somewhere else before logging out, clearing data or reinstalling. Those actions can remove unsent drafts; on the web, X places saved drafts under Unsent posts.
- Refresh X or force-close and reopen the app.
- Switch between the official app and a browser.
- Try private browsing and another network.
- Update X, your browser and the device operating system.
- Turn off VPNs, extensions, content blockers and corporate network filtering for the test.
- Log out and back in after confirming your credentials and preserving drafts.
- Clear site cookies/cache or reset the app.
- Reinstall the official app if the problem remains.

Android troubleshooting
X recommends restarting the device, checking the connection, trying another Wi‑Fi or mobile-data network, turning off a VPN, clearing app data, logging out and back in, and reinstalling. Typical labels are Settings → Apps → X → Storage → Clear data; menus vary by manufacturer and Android version. Save drafts and verify your login first.
X currently states that Android support begins at “Android 7.93.4 and above.” That wording appears to describe an app-support version label, so do not treat it as a universal Android operating-system requirement. See X’s Android troubleshooting page for the current statement.
iPhone and iPad troubleshooting
Restart the device, test Wi‑Fi and mobile data, disable the VPN, update iOS and X, remove and re-add the account, then reinstall the app if needed. X warns that removing an account or logging out can clear unsent drafts; save them first and keep a backup code if login verification is enabled.

Devices running iOS 13.7 or lower may not receive newer X app updates. The full procedure is at X’s iOS troubleshooting page.
Desktop and mobile browser fixes
- Open a private window and sign in to x.com.
- Update the browser.
- Clear X site data, cookies and cached files.
- Disable extensions one at a time, especially ad, privacy and script blockers.
- Try a second browser and a different network.
- Revoke unnecessary third-party account access.
Disable extensions temporarily for diagnosis; permanent removal is not required. If a corporate, school or parental-control filter blocks X requests, only its administrator can change that policy.

A poll is an ordinary post. If normal posts also fail, look for a specific posting or rate-limit message rather than assuming there is a separate poll quota. X says limits apply across web, mobile, phone and API access, may be temporarily reduced during heavy use, and should produce an error identifying the limit. Follow that message and wait for its stated restriction to clear; do not repeatedly retry a security or rate-limit error. Details are at X limits.

Schedulers, automation tools and alternative clients may not support X polls. Test directly in the official app or x.com. Review and revoke unfamiliar permissions under X’s third-party app access controls. Never give a troubleshooting service your X password.
When the fault is probably on X’s side
- Only one browser fails: suspect cookies, extensions or browser configuration.
- Only the app fails: suspect app data, device software or network state.
- Only a scheduler fails: check that tool’s current poll support and permissions.
- Web and mobile both fail while ordinary posts work: suspect an account or poll-specific interface issue.
- All posting fails everywhere: check the exact account-limit or security message before trying again.
Do not label an incident platform-wide without confirmation; one account or client can fail while others work.
How to report an unresolved poll problem
Contact X through the relevant official support channel and include:
- Exact error text and a screenshot, with private information removed
- Device, operating-system version, X app version or browser name and version
- Whether the failure occurs while creating, posting, viewing or voting
- Whether ordinary posts work
- Results of testing web versus mobile, another network and private browsing
- Whether the issue affects one account or multiple accounts
- Steps that reproduce the failure
This information helps support distinguish a malformed poll from an account restriction, client defect or service-side problem.

- There are 2–4 choices, each no longer than 25 characters.
- Duration is 5 minutes to 7 days.
- No photo is attached.
- The poll has not expired and you have not already voted.
- App, browser and operating system are updated.
- VPNs, extensions and network filters were tested off.
- Draft text was saved before destructive steps.
- Posting-limit messages were checked.
- Third-party integrations and permissions were reviewed.
