If you need a capture immediately on Windows, Windows+Shift+S opens Snipping Tool as a fallback.
Check that you are using the right command
Microsoft renamed Edge’s Web Capture feature to Screenshot. That name change is an easy reason to think the feature has disappeared, especially if you are following older instructions that tell you to choose Web Capture.
When the feature is enabled, Microsoft documents three ways to open it: right-click on the page and choose Screenshot, open Settings and more and choose Screenshot, or use Ctrl+Shift+S. The feature is intended to capture web and PDF content in Edge and supports annotation. If you see Screenshot in one menu but not another, try the available entry point rather than assuming the feature is unavailable.
Try the shortcut and both menus
- Open the webpage or PDF you want to capture in Edge.
- Right-click on the page and check for Screenshot.
- If it is not there, open Edge’s Settings and more menu and look for Screenshot.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S and check whether the capture interface opens.
If none of these routes is available, continue with the policy and platform checks below. If the command opens but the capture itself fails, try the general browser troubleshooting steps later in this guide.

Check whether your device or administrator has disabled Screenshot
Edge supports a policy named WebCaptureEnabled. Microsoft documents that when an administrator disables this policy, the Screenshot option is removed. This is a particularly likely explanation if Edge is installed on a computer managed by an employer, school or other organization and the option is absent from its menus.
On a managed device, ask your IT administrator to check the WebCaptureEnabled policy. A user generally cannot fix an administrator-imposed restriction by clearing browser data, changing extensions or repeatedly trying the shortcut. Do not try to bypass a work or school policy; ask the person responsible for managing the device whether Screenshot is intentionally disabled.
If this is your own unmanaged device, a missing menu item alone does not prove that policy is the cause. Continue with the platform and browser checks rather than changing policy settings without knowing how the device is managed.
Confirm that Edge Screenshot is supported on your platform
Microsoft’s policy documentation lists this feature for Edge on Windows and macOS, beginning with Edge 87. The same documentation lists Android and iOS as unsupported for this policy-controlled feature. If you are using Edge on a phone or tablet, do not expect the desktop Screenshot command or its shortcut to be available in the same way.

These platform details describe the feature covered by Microsoft’s policy documentation; they do not establish that every Edge build, device configuration or menu layout is identical. On a supported desktop platform, check the command name, device policy and browser condition before concluding that the feature has been removed altogether.
Update and restart Edge
If Screenshot is present but does not open or complete a capture, first try Microsoft’s standard browser troubleshooting steps. Microsoft recommends updating Edge and restarting it when the browser is unstable or is not loading correctly. An outdated or temporarily unhealthy browser can affect more than one feature, so rule that out before changing settings extensively.
- Save work in open tabs and restart Edge. Reopen the target page and try Screenshot again.
- Check Edge for an available update using its browser update controls. Install an update if one is offered.
- Restart Edge after updating, reopen the page or PDF, and retry the command.
Menu wording and the exact location of controls can change between Edge versions, so use the update controls shown in your installed browser rather than relying on a particular older menu path. If the feature still fails, move on to a clean-page test and the other checks below.
Isolate the page from the browser
Try Screenshot on a different ordinary webpage or PDF. If it works elsewhere, the problem may be limited to the original page, its loading state or content. If it fails across different pages, focus on Edge itself, extensions, data or device conditions.

- It fails on one page: reload that page, wait for it to finish loading, then retry. If possible, compare it with another page or PDF.
- It fails on several pages: restart and update Edge, then test with extensions temporarily disabled.
- The command is missing everywhere: check the device policy and platform support rather than treating this only as a page-loading problem.
- The page itself will not load: troubleshoot the network or security conditions as well; a capture cannot reliably represent a page Edge has not loaded.
Clear browsing data and test extensions
Clear cached or other browsing data
Microsoft includes clearing browsing data among its standard Edge troubleshooting actions. Use Edge’s privacy settings to clear cached or other browsing data, then reopen the target page and retry Screenshot. Clearing data can remove stored browsing information, so review the data types selected in Edge before confirming; choose only what you intend to clear.
Temporarily disable extensions
Extensions can interfere with page behavior or browser UI. Microsoft recommends disabling extensions as part of troubleshooting. Temporarily turn them off, then test Screenshot again. If it works, re-enable extensions one at a time and retry to identify whether one extension is involved. This is a diagnostic step, not a reason to leave every extension disabled permanently.
If disabling extensions changes nothing, restore the extensions you need and continue with the network, security and Windows fallback checks. Avoid making multiple changes at once: testing one adjustment at a time makes it easier to identify what actually resolved the problem.
Check network and device security conditions
Microsoft also recommends checking device security and network conditions when Edge behaves unexpectedly or pages fail to load. Confirm that the target page opens normally in Edge and that the device has a working network connection. If a page is blocked, still loading or behaving abnormally, fix that underlying issue and retry the capture.

Do not assume that a failed capture proves a particular security product or network rule is responsible. The documented guidance is to check those conditions as part of general Edge troubleshooting; it does not identify a specific firewall, antivirus product or network setting as the cause of an Edge Screenshot failure.
Use Windows Snipping Tool if you need a capture now
On Windows, press Windows+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay. It offers rectangular, window, full-screen and freeform capture modes. You can also press Print Screen to copy a full-screen image to the clipboard.
Snipping Tool is a useful fallback when Edge’s own command is missing or broken, but it is not a replacement for Edge’s page-oriented capture workflow. It captures the visible Windows screen or selected window; it does not restore Edge’s own capture behavior for web or PDF content. For a long page, a screen capture may show only what is visible rather than the whole page.

Use Edge Screenshot when you need the browser’s own treatment of page or PDF content. Use Snipping Tool when you need an immediate image of what is currently on the Windows display and do not need Edge’s page-capture features.

Use the symptom to choose the next step instead of repeating the same one:
- Screenshot is missing on a work or school computer: ask the administrator to check the WebCaptureEnabled policy.
- You are using Edge on Android or iOS: the policy documentation does not support this feature on those mobile platforms.
- The shortcut does nothing, but the menu command works: use the menu command and check the shortcut again after restarting Edge; do not assume the feature itself is broken if another documented entry point opens.
- The command opens but capture fails across pages: update and restart Edge, clear relevant browsing data, test with extensions disabled, and check whether pages load normally.
- You need an image immediately on Windows: use Windows+Shift+S, understanding that this captures the screen or selected region rather than restoring Edge’s page capture.
If the command remains absent or broken after these checks on a supported, updated desktop installation, Microsoft’s general troubleshooting guidance does not establish a single universal cause. For a managed device, the administrator is the right next contact; otherwise, use Edge’s available support channels and include the platform, Edge version, whether the command is missing or failing, and the troubleshooting steps already tried.
