Hulu “skipping episodes” can mean several different things: autoplaying the next episode, skipping an intro or credits, resuming near the ending, or jumping forward during playback. The correct fix depends on which symptom you see.

Quickest fixes
- Open the show from its title page instead of Keep Watching.
- If an episode resumes at the wrong time, use the available watch-history or progress-management control for that show.
- Turn off Autoplay if Hulu launches the next episode after one ends.
- Fully close Hulu and reopen it; pressing Back usually is not enough.
- Restart the streaming device and router.
- Update both Hulu and the device software.
- Clear browser cache or app cache. Use app-data clearing or reinstalling only if needed.
- Compare the same title on another profile, device, and network.
1. Turn off Autoplay
If Hulu starts the next episode immediately after the current one finishes, this is normally an Autoplay setting rather than a playback fault. Open Hulu’s account or profile settings, find Autoplay, and switch it off. Then return to the program and test the final minute of an episode.
The exact menu location and wording can vary by device, app version, and profile. Hulu maintains a current Manage Autoplay help page. Disabling Autoplay only stops automatic continuation; it will not fix an episode that begins at 48 minutes or jumps forward while playing.

2. Reset the affected show’s watch progress
This is the most targeted fix when Hulu starts an episode near its ending or appears to skip previously watched episodes. Incorrect progress is often associated with a profile rather than the television or streaming stick, although it is not possible to confirm the cause from the symptom alone.

- Open the show’s title page directly rather than launching it from Keep Watching.
- Look for a three-dot menu or a control labeled Manage Series, Manage, Remove, or Remove from Watch History.
- Remove only the affected series or episode where possible.
- Fully close and reopen Hulu.
- Start the episode again from the series page and check whether it begins at 0:00.
- If it still resumes incorrectly, sign out and back in, then test the title on another supported device.
Hulu’s interface does not expose one verified, universal menu path on every platform. Use the management control currently shown on your device. User reports describe removing the affected show from watch history as a useful remedy, but it is not guaranteed; reports include episodes starting near the end, skipping reports, and rewatch-progress problems.
Removing progress can erase legitimate resume information for that show. It generally affects viewing history for the selected title, not your entire Hulu account, but the exact scope depends on the control Hulu presents. If only one profile has the problem, test another profile before resetting anything.
3. Stop Hulu from jumping forward during playback
If the video seeks forward while the episode is playing, or freezes and then resumes at a later point, treat it as a playback problem rather than an Autoplay or watch-history problem.

- Pause and resume the episode once.
- Fully close Hulu using your device’s app-switching or force-close function.
- Restart the streaming device.
- Restart the modem and router, then try the episode again.
- Pause other high-bandwidth activity on the home network.
- If Hulu exposes video-quality or data-usage controls, temporarily choose a lower quality.
See Hulu’s buffering troubleshooting guidance. Playback can vary with bandwidth, simultaneous network use, location, device, equipment, and internet-service conditions, so there is no single internet-speed number that applies to every Hulu device and experience.

4. Fully close Hulu
Do not rely only on the remote’s Back button. Terminate Hulu through the device’s app-switching or force-close mechanism, then launch it again. This makes Hulu reload the session and playback data instead of continuing with a stale app state.
The steps differ across Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Samsung and LG televisions, Xbox, PlayStation, iPhone, iPad, Android, and browsers. Use Hulu’s current How to fully close the Hulu app article for your device family.
5. Clear cache, app data, or reinstall Hulu
Browser
Clear Hulu-related browser cache or site data, restart the browser, and sign in again. Hulu provides a dedicated browser-cache guide.
Android and Google TV-type devices
Typical labels are Settings → Apps → Hulu → Storage and cache → Clear cache. If that does not help, Clear data or Clear storage may be available. This is more disruptive: it can sign you out and reset local app information.

Phones, tablets, Roku, Apple TV, smart TVs, and consoles
These platforms may not provide a separate cache button. Sign out and back in, or delete and reinstall Hulu. Restart the device after reinstalling.
Clearing cache or reinstalling repairs local app data; it does not necessarily change server-side watch history. Reinstallation can also remove device-specific settings and require your credentials again. Hulu’s Help Center links current resources for clearing cache and data.
6. Update Hulu and the device
Check for updates to both the Hulu app and the operating system or firmware of the television, streaming player, phone, tablet, or console. Compatibility requirements and menu labels vary by model and current release. Hulu’s supported-devices information and Subscriber Agreement explain that device and software compatibility can affect access and playback.

Run these controlled tests and note the results:

Specifically compare:
- The same title and profile on a different device.
- The same title on a different profile using the same device.
- A different title using the same profile and device.
- The same title over another network, such as a phone hotspot if practical.
This is a troubleshooting inference based on Hulu’s documented dependencies on devices, networks, bandwidth, and service conditions—not an official Hulu diagnosis.

Special cases
Skip Intro or Skip Credits
Hulu may intentionally skip an opening or closing section on supported programs. Skip behavior is title-dependent and may vary by profile or supported content. It is not evidence that Hulu is skipping the episode itself. See Hulu’s material on title-dependent skip functionality.
Kids profiles
Kids profiles may not expose the same controls as adult profiles, and skip or autoplay behavior can vary by supported title. Test the program from another appropriate profile before assuming the app is broken.
Hulu + Live TV
Live TV has separate home-network and location requirements. A Live TV home-location error should not be confused with an on-demand episode resuming at the wrong timestamp. Hulu describes these requirements in its Subscriber Agreement.

If skipping happens only with a downloaded episode, test the streamed version and check whether the download is still available. Downloaded content has separate device and availability limits; see Hulu’s downloads guidance.

VPNs and proxy services
A VPN or proxy is not a good first-line fix. Location and anonymous-proxy conditions can cause authorization or playback errors, adding a new problem instead of repairing watch progress. Test Hulu without a VPN or proxy when troubleshooting.
When to contact Hulu
Contact Hulu through the official Help Center when the issue survives progress reset, app restart, updates, and cross-device testing—or when it affects multiple titles and networks. Hulu says live support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but current contact options should be checked in the Help Center.
Have this information ready:
- Your account email; do not publish it in a public forum.
- Affected profile name.
- Show, season, and exact episode.
- Device brand and model.
- Hulu app version and operating-system or firmware version, if visible.
- Approximate time and time zone.
- Error code or on-screen message.
- Whether the title works in a browser, mobile app, or another device.
- Whether it works on another network.
- Whether clearing or removing progress fixed the problem temporarily.
Do not assume the issue is a Hulu bug without a reproducible pattern or an official acknowledgment. Cross-device and cross-network results give support the evidence needed to distinguish account data, local app problems, network conditions, and a service-side incident.
