If images disappear when you generate a PDF from HTML with jsPDF, the problem is usually in html2canvas’s image-loading and canvas-rendering stage—not in doc.addImage(). Try useCORS: true, and make sure the image’s final server sends an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header that permits your page’s origin. If you cannot configure that server, route approved images through a controlled proxy. The title’s addHTML refers to a legacy method name: the current jsPDF repository documents html(), which depends on html2canvas. Check the API for the version installed in your project.
Why cross-domain images disappear from a jsPDF PDF
jsPDF’s HTML-rendering path depends on html2canvas. html2canvas reconstructs a canvas from page content; it is not a native browser screenshot. If an image comes from a different origin, browser security rules can prevent the renderer from reading its pixels for an exportable result. html2canvas may therefore skip an image that would taint the canvas. The failure happens while HTML is being rendered, before jsPDF writes the PDF. See the html2canvas overview and jsPDF repository README.
The key distinction is that useCORS asks html2canvas to load images using CORS; it cannot grant permission on the image server’s behalf. The image response must allow the origin hosting your page. The html2canvas FAQ and configuration reference describe the option and its server-side requirement.
Try CORS first
Pass the option through jsPDF’s HTML method
For a jsPDF version that supports html(), the option belongs inside its html2canvas options. This example shows the placement of useCORS and the PDF callback. The jsPDF README establishes the html() method and its html2canvas dependency, but method signatures and setup can vary by installed release; confirm this calling convention against your version before adopting it.

const doc = new jsPDF();
doc.html(document.querySelector("#content"), {
html2canvas: {
useCORS: true
},
callback: pdf => pdf.save("document.pdf")
});
The element selected by #content should contain the material you want rendered. If your application imports jsPDF as a module rather than exposing window.jspdfutton, use the import style configured by that application; the rendering option remains the part to pass to html2canvas. Check the jsPDF repository documentation and the html2canvas configuration reference for the API supported by your dependency versions.
Configure the image server too
Inspect the response for the image and verify that it includes an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header allowing the origin of the page running the export. If you control the image host, configure it to allow the appropriate site origin. Do not assume that adding useCORS: true alone changes the server’s response. html2canvas’s FAQ makes the server header a condition of this approach.
Check the final image URL, not just the URL in your markup
An image URL can appear to be on your site and still redirect to a CDN or another host. In your browser’s developer tools, open the Network panel, find the image request, and inspect its redirect chain, final URL, and response headers. If the last response comes from another origin, that final host must allow your page’s origin, or you need a proxy path you control.

An html2canvas issue report describes a case where an initially same-origin URL redirected to a CDN and the reporter found that useCORS did not behave as expected. Treat that report as an edge case, not proof that every redirect fails: the result may depend on the library version and setup. If you see a redirect, use the observed final response to guide the fix rather than relying on the starting URL alone. See html2canvas issue #3020.
Use a proxy when the image host cannot allow your origin
If you do not control the remote image server, html2canvas documents a proxy option that can load images through a same-origin route. The getting-started guide shows the proxy option, and the FAQ recommends a proxy as an alternative when direct CORS access is not available.
A proxy means your server fetches an image and serves it to the browser through your application’s origin. That can solve the cross-origin barrier, but it adds a server-side fetch path to your deployment. Restrict it to the image sources and resources your application intends to support; do not turn it into an unrestricted URL-fetching endpoint. html2canvas documents how to use a proxy option, not a secure production proxy design, so the access controls and permitted hosts are your responsibility.

- Route only approved images: have an application-controlled endpoint fetch from intended image hosts, rather than accepting arbitrary destinations.
- Configure the renderer: use the proxy option supported by your installed html2canvas/jsPDF setup, following the html2canvas getting-started guide.
- Retest the PDF: confirm that the expected image appears in the generated output, not merely that the proxy endpoint returned a response.
Why allowTaint: true is not the fix
allowTaint is easy to mistake for a way to make a remote image exportable. It is not a way to grant cross-origin permission. html2canvas documents allowTaint as false by default and explains that images which would taint the canvas are skipped in that default mode. Allowing a tainted canvas does not make its pixels safely readable for downstream export. A PDF pipeline that needs image data should instead resolve CORS at the final image host or use a suitably constrained proxy. See the configuration reference and FAQ.
Check whether your code still uses the legacy addHTML name
The article title reflects a method name found in older code and tutorials. The current jsPDF repository README documents html() and says it uses html2canvas as an optional dependency. That is not enough evidence to assign a precise release where the method name changed, so do not infer a version boundary from the name alone. Check the documentation and package version in your own project before changing method calls or copying an old snippet. See the jsPDF repository README.
Whichever supported method you use, keep the responsibilities separate: jsPDF creates the PDF, while html2canvas handles the HTML-to-canvas rendering path and its image-loading constraints. Fixing CORS or the proxy path addresses the missing image at that earlier stage; changing a later PDF image-insertion call will not by itself make an inaccessible remote image readable.

Troubleshooting by symptom
The image works on the page but is missing in the PDF
- Inspect the image request in the Network panel and identify the final URL and response headers.
- Confirm that your
html()options actually passuseCORS: trueto html2canvas, using the calling convention for your installed jsPDF release. - If the final image host does not allow your page’s origin, configure that host or use a controlled proxy.
useCORS: true is set, but nothing changes
- Check that the image response—not just the HTML page—has an appropriate
Access-Control-Allow-Originheader. - Look for a redirect to a different CDN or image host and inspect that final response.
- Verify that the option is nested in the html2canvas options passed to the HTML-rendering method, rather than placed elsewhere in the PDF options.
The image URL looks local, but the export still fails
Follow the request through any redirects and identify the final origin. A redirect to another host can change which server must authorize the page origin. The redirect scenario is reported in html2canvas issue #3020; check your own network trace and version rather than assuming the same cause.
An old example calls addHTML
Do not assume an older snippet matches your installed package. The current repository README documents html(); consult the version-specific API documentation before migrating the call or its options. The sources here do not establish the exact version in which naming changed.
The proxy approach introduces a deployment concern
Keep the proxy limited to intended image sources and resources. The html2canvas proxy option enables a loading route; it does not define the security policy for your server-side fetcher. If a safe proxy is outside your control, the alternative is to use an image host that can return the necessary CORS permission.

If your actual goal is to capture a public page as an image or PDF, rather than to render an existing in-app DOM element, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. It is a URL-based capture API, so it is an alternative for page capture—not a drop-in fix for a jsPDF export of arbitrary client-side content.
Example cURL request (replace the URL with the page to capture):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Its consent-banner handling accepts the banner before capture and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Does useCORS remove or bypass an image host’s access restrictions?
No. It requests CORS-enabled image loading; the image server must still return an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header that permits the page’s origin.
Is jsPDF addHTML still the method name to use?
The current jsPDF repository README documents html(). Check the documentation for the version installed in your project; the available sources do not establish a precise version where the method name changed.
Can ScreenshotNeo render an existing element from my application’s DOM?
The documented ScreenshotNeo endpoint takes a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. It is an alternative for capturing a page by URL, not a drop-in renderer for arbitrary client-side DOM content.
