If a website loads and then turns white or empty, first determine whether the failure is limited to one site, one browser, or your whole connection. Reload once, open another site, and try the affected address in a second browser. A private-window test and temporary extension disablement then separate profile problems from site or network failures. Only after those checks should you clear site data or change network settings.
This sequence avoids the common mistake of resetting everything before identifying the failing layer. Menu names differ between desktop and mobile browsers, but the decision points are the same.
Start with a three-minute scope check
Write down what you observe before changing settings. The pattern determines the next branch.

- Reload the page once. Repeated reloads can hide a timing issue without fixing it.
- Open a different, unrelated website in the same window.
- Open the blank address in another installed browser. If possible, test another device on the same network.
A single-site failure across browsers usually needs the site operator to investigate. A multi-site failure across browsers points toward connectivity or device settings instead.

Fixes, in the order that isolates the cause
1. Use a private or Incognito window
Open a private window from your browser’s main menu, paste the address, and sign in only if the page requires it. Private windows use a cleaner profile, so a working result narrows the cause to normal-profile cookies, cached files, permissions, or extensions. It does not identify which one is responsible.
If the page is still blank in private mode, leave the profile alone and continue with the browser comparison and connection checks.
2. Disable extensions temporarily
Ad blockers, script blockers, privacy tools, VPN extensions, and appearance or dark-mode modifiers can prevent a page’s scripts or styles from running. In the browser’s Extensions or Add-ons manager, switch off those categories first, reload the affected page, and test again.
If the page returns, turn extensions back on one at a time and reload after each change. The extension enabled immediately before the failure is the likely conflict. Re-enable protective extensions after the test; do not leave security or privacy controls disabled as a permanent workaround.

Stale or mismatched cookies and cached files can make a page render incorrectly. Prefer per-site removal instead of erasing the entire browser history.

- Chromium browsers: open the blank page, select the site-information icon beside the address, open site settings, and choose the option to clear or delete data for that site. Labels vary by Chrome, Edge, Brave, and other Chromium releases.
- Firefox: open the site-information panel beside the address, choose the connection or permissions details, and remove cookies or site data for the domain. Mozilla notes that this can sign you out.
- Safari: use Settings or Preferences, Privacy, and Website Data to remove the individual domain where the platform supports it.
Clearing site data can remove a saved cart, preferences, or an offline session. Have your login method available before doing it. Reload after deletion and allow the site to rebuild its assets.
4. Check whether JavaScript or content is being blocked
Modern interactive pages often depend on JavaScript. A script-blocking extension, strict tracking protection, endpoint-security product, or network filter can stop the application after the initial HTML arrives.
Check the page’s permissions and your blocker lists for the affected domain. In Firefox, JavaScript is enabled by default; Mozilla cautions that changing advanced preference values casually can affect stability, security, and performance. Use the browser’s normal site-permission controls first, and change an advanced preference only when you understand how to restore it.

5. Check the connection when more than one site fails
Confirm that Wi-Fi or Ethernet is connected and that other devices can reach the internet. On public Wi-Fi, open a new tab and complete the sign-in portal if one appears. If the connection recently changed, restart the modem or router only when that is appropriate for your network.

- Temporarily test without a VPN or proxy. Restore it immediately after the test if it is required by your work or school.
- Check firewall or antivirus web-filtering logs for blocked requests. Do not permanently disable protection to make a page load.
- Verify that the device date, time, and time zone are correct; an incorrect clock can break secure connections.
- If DNS errors, timeouts, connection resets, or empty responses appear, use your browser’s official error-code guidance to distinguish name-resolution, server, and transport problems.
When every browser and several sites fail, contact the network administrator or internet service provider after local checks. If only one domain fails in every browser while other sites work, its owner may be experiencing an outage, deployment error, or certificate problem.
6. Consider hardware acceleration only after simpler checks
Mozilla’s troubleshooting guidance includes hardware acceleration and graphics drivers among causes of pages that look wrong. If the blank screen affects one browser broadly, update the browser and graphics driver through the device maker, then test the browser’s hardware-acceleration setting. Change one setting at a time and restart the browser so you can undo the change if rendering worsens.

Common symptoms and targeted fixes
White page with no error message
Test private mode and extensions first. If the page works there, isolate the add-on or clear the domain’s stored data. If it remains blank in every browser, capture the exact URL and time and report it to the site owner.
Spinner or skeleton screen that never completes
This usually means a required request or script did not finish. Check blockers, VPN/proxy rules, firewall logs, and the connection. A hard refresh alone will not repair a request that the network or policy continues to block.
Page works on a phone but not a computer
Compare networks before blaming the browser. A phone on cellular data and a computer on office Wi-Fi are using different DNS, filtering, and authentication paths. Test both devices on the same network, then test the computer with a private window and extensions disabled.

Clearing data fixed it, but the problem returned
Repeated recurrence suggests an extension, privacy filter, or site deployment that is writing incompatible state. Keep the affected domain’s data clearing as a temporary recovery, then identify the extension or contact the site’s support with the recurrence details.

- Full page URL, including the path where the blank screen appears.
- Browser name and version, operating system, and device type.
- Whether another browser, private window, or another network changes the result.
- Whether unrelated websites load normally.
- Approximate time, time zone, and any visible error code.
- Whether disabling a particular extension or clearing only that site’s data changed the behavior.
Do not send passwords, session cookies, authorization headers, or private page screenshots to an unverified recipient.

Should I reset the whole browser first?
No. Test another site, another browser, and a private window first. Those results tell you whether a reset would target the browser, profile, site, or network.
Will clearing site data delete my account?
It normally removes local cookies and saved site state, not the account on the server, but it can sign you out and remove carts or preferences. Keep your login method available.

Incognito changes the profile context, so an extension, cookie, cache entry, or permission in the normal profile is the leading suspect. Re-enable extensions individually to identify the conflict.
When should I contact the website owner instead of my ISP?
Contact the site owner when one domain remains blank in multiple browsers while unrelated sites work. Contact the network administrator or ISP when many domains fail across browsers and devices.
