If your Samsung Gear Fit2 will not charge, first check that you are using the correct EP-YB360 charging dock, then reseat the band, clean and dry its contacts, and test a different USB cable and wall adapter. A fully depleted Gear Fit2 may need several minutes on the dock before its screen responds. If it still will not charge with a known-good dock and power source, the battery or the band’s charging hardware may need service.

First, confirm you have a Gear Fit2

This guide is for the original Samsung Gear Fit2, model SM-R360. It uses the model-specific EP-YB360 charging dock, which connects to USB power and charges through physical pogo-pin contacts. Samsung’s EP-YB360 support page identifies the dock for Gear Fit2; Samsung describes its charging interface as pogo charging on its accessory support page.

Do not confuse it with the Galaxy Fit2 (SM-R220) or Gear Fit2 Pro (SM-R365). Their names and accessories are not interchangeable by default. Check the model on the band, packaging, or original documentation before buying a dock or battery. A generic Qi pad, Galaxy Fit2 charger, Gear S2 or S3 cradle, or other smartwatch puck is not a substitute for the Gear Fit2 dock.

Try these fixes in order

  1. Reseat the band in its dock. Disconnect the dock from power and remove the Gear Fit2. Make sure nothing—including a strap edge, protective film, dirt, or residue—prevents the back of the band from sitting flat. Place it in the dock in the intended orientation so both contacts meet the dock pins. If there is no charging indication, reposition it once. Samsung warns that an obstruction between the device and dock can interfere with charging (Gear Fit2 manual). Do not wedge an object under the band or hold it down while charging; if pressure or a particular angle is required, suspect worn or damaged contacts.
  2. Clean and dry the contacts. Keep the dock unplugged and the band out of it. Wipe the contacts on the Gear Fit2 and the matching dock pins with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth or cotton swab. For stubborn residue, a very small amount of electronics-safe isopropyl alcohol on the swab may help; do not pour or spray liquid into the device or dock, and let everything dry completely before reconnecting power. Avoid water, metal picks, needles, knives, abrasive materials, and forceful scraping. Samsung cautions against sweat, liquids, and dust around the device and charger. Green deposits, pitting, loose contacts, or pins that are stuck or recessed suggest damage that cleaning may not fix.
  3. Inspect the dock and USB cable. Look for bent or stuck pins, cracks, residue, a loose USB connection, or liquid damage. Check the cable for kinks, fraying, and bent connectors; Samsung warns against damaged USB cables. A dock can fail even if it looks intact.
  4. Test the USB power path one part at a time. Try a different known-good USB cable, then a different basic wall adapter and outlet. You can also compare with a computer USB port, but computer charging may be slower; Samsung notes that lower-current sources and multi-chargers can increase charging time. Change one component at a time so you can tell whether the cable, adapter, or power source made a difference. Do not use a dock or adapter that becomes hot, smells burnt, or appears damaged.
  5. Give a completely flat battery time to respond. Connect the dock to a known-good wall power source, seat the band correctly, and leave it undisturbed for at least 10–15 minutes before pressing the power button once. If there is still no response, you can leave it connected longer—up to about an hour—while checking that it does not become unusually hot. These are practical troubleshooting intervals, not a Samsung-mandated charge time. Samsung’s manual says a completely discharged device may not turn on immediately and recommends letting it charge for several minutes before trying to power it on. Avoid repeatedly unplugging and reconnecting it every few seconds.
  6. Stop if it becomes unusually hot. Some warmth can occur, but Samsung says to remove the device from the charger if the battery feels hot to the touch and let it cool before trying again. Do not continue charging if the band swells, the screen or cover lifts, or you notice a chemical smell, smoke, hissing, or visible damage. Do not open, puncture, crush, freeze, or short a lithium-ion battery; seek professional help.
  7. Restart or update only if it can power on. If the Gear Fit2 boots but is frozen or behaving oddly, restart it first. If it can communicate with your phone, Samsung’s support instructions give the software-update path as Galaxy Wearable app → About Gear → Update Gear software for Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro (Samsung troubleshooting guide). A reset cannot repair a faulty dock, damaged contact, failed battery, or charging circuit. Treat a factory reset as a last software step: back up or sync data first because a reset erases user data.
  8. Test another known-good EP-YB360 dock if possible. This is the clearest way to separate a dock problem from a band-side problem after testing the cable and power source. If another compatible dock charges the Gear Fit2, replace the original dock. If neither works, the contacts, battery, or internal charging hardware become more likely causes. Verify that any replacement is specifically compatible with SM-R360.

What the charging behavior may indicate

These are diagnostic clues, not guaranteed diagnoses. More than one component can produce the same symptom, so change the power source and dock before concluding the battery has failed.

What you see What to test next
No icon, vibration, or screen response Try a known-good cable and adapter, check dock alignment and contacts, then leave a deeply depleted band connected for several minutes.
Charging appears only at an angle or when pressed Inspect for dirty contacts, weak or stuck dock pins, a warped dock, or damaged band contacts. Do not leave it weighted down or clamped.
It starts charging and then stops Check contact stability, USB power, and temperature. A worn battery or charging fault is also possible.
The icon appears but the percentage does not rise Try a stable wall adapter and another dock if available. Poor contact, a failing battery, or a charging-circuit fault could produce this behavior.
It powers off as soon as it leaves the dock or drains very quickly Battery degradation becomes more likely, particularly if the dock and contacts have tested good.
The contacts are dark, green, pitted, loose, or recessed Stop if there is corrosion or mechanical damage. Cleaning may not restore a damaged contact; seek repair advice.
The band gets hot, swells, smells unusual, or shows physical damage Disconnect it and stop charging. Do not open or handle a damaged battery as a DIY repair.

When the battery may be the problem

A battery is more likely to have failed if the Gear Fit2 previously had very short battery life, has been stored empty for a long time, shows a charging symbol without gaining charge, or switches off immediately after removal from a dock that is known to work. These signs are not proof: a damaged charging circuit can behave similarly. Confirm the dock, cable, adapter, alignment, and contacts before deciding the band needs a battery.

Can you replace a Gear Fit2 battery?

iFixit lists an aftermarket EB-BR360ABE battery for the SM-R360, with stated specifications of 200 mAh, 3.85 V, and 0.77 Wh. Its listing showed a price of $29.99 and out-of-stock status when checked in August 2026; price and availability can change by time and region. It is not a genuine Samsung battery. Verify model compatibility before purchasing, and do not assume it fits a Gear Fit2 Pro or Galaxy Fit2. See the iFixit battery listing.

Replacing a battery means opening a sealed wearable. That can damage the display, enclosure, or other components and compromise the device’s sealing; a new battery also will not fix damaged contacts or charging circuitry. DIY replacement is best left to people experienced with small electronics and lithium-ion battery handling who accept the risk of damage and loss of water resistance. Do not solder charging contacts or connect a bare lithium battery directly to a power supply. For swelling, heat, corrosion, or a lifted screen, do not attempt a DIY repair.

When to seek service—and when replacement may make sense

Stop troubleshooting and seek qualified help if you find swelling, heat, liquid damage, corrosion, smoke, an unusual smell, or damaged contacts—or if several known-good docks fail to charge the band. Samsung provides repair requests and service-center lookup in the U.S. service portal, but availability for an older Gear Fit2 depends on location and current service options; check by model before arranging a repair. Samsung’s Gear service preparation instructions say to back up data and include the original charging dock and cable when sending a Gear device for service.
