Most wired Corsair keyboards reset by holding Esc while reconnecting the USB cable, then releasing it when the lighting flashes. However, there is no universal Corsair reset shortcut: some K55 models use Fn + F4, wireless keyboards use the power switch with Esc, and models such as the K70 MAX and K100 AIR have their own timings.
After a reset, many Corsair keyboards can run in hardware mode and display onboard lighting without iCUE. The exact effects and shortcuts depend on the model.
Before you reset: identify the exact keyboard
Do not start with a generic “Corsair reset” instruction. K55, K70, K95 and K100 are product families containing multiple generations, and their reset procedures and lighting shortcuts are not identical.

What a factory reset changes
A reset clears some or all configuration stored in the keyboard’s onboard memory. Depending on the model, that can include:
- Onboard lighting profiles and custom effects
- Hardware macros
- Hardware key assignments
- Saved shortcuts and other onboard settings
- Factory-default lighting and behavior
Corsair explicitly warns that its K55 EEPROM reset deletes previously recorded macros. Save or document any important configuration before proceeding.
A reset is not the same as a power cycle, firmware update or iCUE reinstallation. It cannot repair a damaged cable, failed USB port, defective switch or LED, wireless receiver, battery, or every firmware and driver problem.

Reset procedure by Corsair keyboard type

How to use Corsair LEDs without iCUE
Corsair keyboards generally have two lighting modes:
- Software mode: iCUE actively controls profiles, effects and settings.
- Hardware mode: the keyboard uses factory effects or profiles saved in its onboard memory. This is the mode available when iCUE is closed or the keyboard is connected to a device that cannot run iCUE.
To test hardware lighting:
- Close iCUE completely, including its background process if it remains active.
- Connect the keyboard directly to the computer or console, avoiding a USB hub.
- Use the model’s brightness, lighting or profile shortcuts.
- If necessary, switch back to the current hardware profile using the model’s documented shortcut.
Many keyboards can show factory RGB without ever installing iCUE. Custom lighting, advanced per-key effects, firmware updates, sleep behavior and some macros may require iCUE. A practical compromise is to connect the keyboard temporarily to a compatible computer, configure hardware lighting in iCUE, save it to onboard memory, and then close iCUE.

Verified no-iCUE lighting shortcuts
K55 CORE
Corsair documents these hardware-lighting controls for the K55 CORE:

K55 RGB PRO
The K55 RGB PRO can use lighting effects and macros stored in onboard memory when iCUE is not running. Its shortcut combinations are not necessarily the same as those on the K55 CORE. Use Corsair’s K55 RGB PRO hardware-mode guide rather than copying a K55 CORE shortcut.

K70 CORE
- Fn + F3 decreases brightness.
- The multifunction dial can be switched to backlight control; turning it adjusts brightness and pressing it can turn lighting on or off.
- Fn + ` returns to the current hardware-profile lighting.

K70 CORE TKL
The K70 CORE TKL has its own shortcut layout. Corsair documents Fn + F3 for brightness control, five brightness levels with 20% changes per trigger, dial-based backlight control, and onboard effects assigned to combinations involving the number row. It also documents Fn + F2 for cycling hardware profiles. Do not substitute the K70 CORE table for the TKL model; use the K70 CORE TKL manual.

These families have model-specific onboard controls. A shortcut such as Fn + 1 should never be assumed to produce the same effect across every Corsair keyboard. Check the exact manual, including the K65 RGB MINI guide and K100 RGB guide.

If the keyboard does not flash after resetting
- Confirm the exact model and variant, especially if it is a K55.
- Repeat the procedure with the model-specific timing.
- Connect the keyboard directly to a different USB port, preferably on the computer rather than through a hub.
- Try another compatible computer.
- If the cable is detachable, test another compatible cable.
- For wireless models, charge the keyboard and connect the receiver directly.
- Close iCUE completely before testing hardware mode or repeating the reset.
- If the keyboard works but the LEDs do not, check brightness, the lighting on/off control and the active hardware profile.
If the keyboard enters a flashing or recovery state, use iCUE only for the firmware recovery or update procedure Corsair provides. A reset does not reinstall firmware.
Console, Mac and BIOS use
Lighting stored in onboard memory can generally continue working when the keyboard is attached to a console, Mac, BIOS screen or another computer that cannot run iCUE. The available keys, profiles and console functions depend on the model and host device.
There is an important distinction:
- Onboard lighting: remains available through the keyboard’s hardware mode.
- iCUE-generated lighting: stops when iCUE is unavailable.
- Firmware updates and advanced configuration: normally require a compatible computer and iCUE.
If the keyboard is stuck in BIOS mode, follow Corsair’s BIOS-mode instructions. Leaving BIOS mode with an Esc reconnect sequence can clear EEPROM, but BIOS recovery is not identical to a full factory reset.
Factory reset versus firmware update

If a reset does not solve detection, lighting or wireless problems, continue with Corsair’s troubleshooting steps rather than repeatedly resetting the keyboard.

- Check brightness and the lighting on/off control.
- Close iCUE and test hardware mode.
- Power-cycle the keyboard.
- Try a direct USB connection, another port and another computer.
- Use the exact model’s reset procedure.
- Update firmware through iCUE if Corsair recommends it for the symptom.
- Contact Corsair support if the keyboard remains undetected or its LEDs still do not respond.
