You cannot install Apple’s FaceTime app on an Android phone or tablet. However, you can join a FaceTime call when an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac user creates a FaceTime link and sends it to you. Open that link in the latest Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, allow camera and microphone access, and wait for the Apple host to admit you.
This browser-based method does not let Android users start ordinary FaceTime calls themselves, and Apple says FaceTime web does not support SharePlay or screen sharing.

What you need
- An Android phone or tablet
- A FaceTime invitation link from an Apple user
- The latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- A reliable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection
- Working camera and microphone permissions
Apple documents browser participation for Android and Windows devices. Its current requirements are available in the FaceTime web support guide. This guide is for users in the United States; Apple separately notes restrictions for FaceTime links and some devices in mainland China.

- Open FaceTime.
- Tap New Call.
- Tap Create Link.
- Choose Messages, Mail, or another sharing method, or copy the link.
- Send the complete link to the Android participant.
Apple says link creation is available on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 15 or later. A Mac running macOS Monterey or later can also create a link from FaceTime. See Apple’s iPhone instructions for the current labels.

How to join FaceTime on an Android phone or tablet
- Open the invitation and tap the FaceTime link. If Android asks which app to use, choose Chrome or Edge.
- Enter your name in the name field.
- Tap Continue.
- When prompted, choose Allow for camera and microphone access.
- Tap Join.
- Remain on the waiting screen until the Apple host approves you.
Apple’s documentation says no Apple device or login is necessary for a supported browser participant; you generally identify yourself by entering a name. The host still controls admission.
FaceTime controls available in the browser
Depending on the device and current browser version, FaceTime web provides basic controls such as:
- Mute and unmute the microphone
- Turn the camera on or off
- Switch between front and rear cameras
- Use full-screen mode where available
- Use participant grid layout in Group FaceTime
- Copy or share the call link
- Leave the call
Apple explicitly says SharePlay and screen sharing are unavailable to FaceTime web participants. Do not expect the browser session to offer every feature in the native FaceTime app.

Phone versus tablet
The process is substantially the same on an Android tablet: open the link in updated Chrome or Edge, enter a name, grant permissions, tap Join, and wait for approval. A tablet’s larger display can make participant controls easier to see, but it does not provide a native FaceTime app or the ability to originate a normal FaceTime call.
Troubleshooting FaceTime on Android

| The link will not open | Update Chrome or Edge through Google Play, copy and paste the complete link, and try opening it directly in the browser. Avoid relying on an unsupported browser. |
| The Join button is missing | Reload the page, restart the browser, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, and ask the host to create and send a new link if necessary. |
| Camera is unavailable | Use the browser permission prompt to choose Allow. If permission was denied earlier, restore camera access for Chrome or Edge in Android’s app-permission settings. Close other apps using the camera and check for a physical privacy switch or device policy. |
| Microphone is unavailable | Allow microphone access for the browser, check Android’s system-wide microphone control, and close other audio or recording apps. |
| You are stuck waiting | The host may not have started the call or approved the request. Stay on the join screen and ask the host to check the request. |
| The host cannot see your request | Both participants should leave and reopen the link. If that fails, have the Apple user create and send a fresh link. |
| Video or audio quality is poor | Move closer to the Wi-Fi access point, switch to a stronger cellular connection, pause other heavy downloads, or restart the device. |
Android settings names vary between Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, and other devices, so the exact permission menu may differ.
Can an Android user start a FaceTime call?
No. The browser workaround is for joining an Apple-created call. An Android user cannot use it to create a normal FaceTime call from scratch. If everyone in the group uses Android, or if no Apple participant can host, choose a cross-platform service instead.

Alternatives when FaceTime web is not enough
Use an alternative when you need screen sharing, SharePlay-like collaboration, Android-to-Android calling, or a meeting workflow that does not depend on an Apple host.
- Google Meet: A straightforward link-based replacement for mixed Android and Apple groups. Google currently lists support for Android 5.0 and later, iOS 17 and later, and supported browsers. Personal-account meetings allow up to 100 participants; free meetings with three or more participants are limited to 60 minutes, while one-to-one meetings can last up to 24 hours. Check Google’s current limits before scheduling.
- Zoom: Useful for family groups, appointments, clubs, and work meetings. Zoom’s free Basic plan supports up to 100 participants and limits meetings to 40 minutes; participants can join without a Zoom account. See the current pricing page for changing plan details.
- Microsoft Teams Free: Best when chat, file sharing, polls, or Microsoft 365 integration matter. Microsoft currently lists one-to-one meetings up to 30 hours, group meetings up to 60 minutes, and up to 100 participants on its free offering. Details and prices can change; verify them on the official Teams page.
Decision rule: Use FaceTime web when an Apple user is hosting and you only need to join. Choose Google Meet for a simple cross-platform replacement, Zoom for its familiar meeting workflow, or Teams when collaboration features are important.
Stay safe
- Do not install an APK claiming to be “FaceTime for Android.”
- Do not enter an Apple ID, Google password, payment-card number, or other credentials on a suspicious page reached through an unexpected message.
- A legitimate invitation should take you to Apple’s FaceTime web experience, not a random download site.
- If the message is unexpected, verify the sender before opening the link.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Android users FaceTime an iPhone?
Yes, but only by joining a FaceTime link created by an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac user in Chrome or Edge. Android cannot run the native FaceTime app or normally start the call.
Does FaceTime work on Samsung phones?
Yes. A Samsung phone can join an Apple-created FaceTime link in an updated Chrome or Edge browser after granting camera and microphone permissions.

Do I need to download an app?
No. Use the latest Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Avoid unofficial FaceTime APKs.
Can Android users use FaceTime screen sharing or SharePlay?
No. Apple says both features are unavailable to FaceTime web participants.
Why does FaceTime say it needs permission?
The browser needs camera and microphone access. Choose Allow, or restore those permissions for Chrome or Edge in Android settings, then reload the link.

Remain on the waiting screen while the host checks for the admission request. If neither side sees it, both should reopen the link; the host can also create and send a new link.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Android does not have the FaceTime app, but an Android phone or tablet can join an Apple-hosted FaceTime call through updated Chrome or Edge. You need the link, browser camera and microphone access, and host approval. For screen sharing, SharePlay, or Android-hosted calls, use a cross-platform service such as Google Meet, Zoom, or Teams.
