To save only selected pages as a new PDF, open the document or web page, choose Print, enter the page range or individual page numbers, then select a PDF destination offered by your operating system or app. To pull pages out of an existing PDF while keeping them as page content rather than printing them, use a PDF editor’s Extract pages tool.
The steps below cover both jobs. Print-dialog labels and PDF destinations vary by application and operating system; Microsoft’s instructions document page selection in Edge, but not one universal save-to-PDF button for every device.
Choose the right way to export the pages
| What you need | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Make a new PDF from selected pages of a web page or a document open in a browser or reader | Print to PDF | Sends only the chosen pages through the print flow to a PDF destination, if your system or app offers one. |
| Create a separate PDF from pages in an existing PDF | Extract pages in a PDF editor | Creates a new document from selected pages and may offer choices about the original file and separate output files. |
These workflows are not interchangeable in every respect. Print-to-PDF routes a page through a print pipeline, so do not assume that metadata, accessibility information, or interactive features will be preserved. Adobe specifically documents which features its desktop extraction preserves; those details should not be generalized to other tools or to printing.

This is the simplest route when you want a new PDF containing selected pages from a web page or an existing document. Microsoft documents custom page ranges in Microsoft Edge’s print dialog, including ranges such as 1-5 and page lists such as 3, 6, 8.

- Open the page or document in Microsoft Edge, or in the browser or reader you are using.
- Open Print. In Edge, Microsoft lists
Ctrl+Pon Windows andCommand+Pon macOS. You can also use the app’s Print command. - Set the page selection. In Edge, open Pages, select Custom, then enter a continuous range such as
2-5or individual pages such as2, 5, 9. Follow the syntax shown by your app if it differs; the examples here are documented for Edge, not a universal PDF standard. - Check the preview. Confirm that the preview contains the intended pages and that the layout is readable. A web page’s print layout may differ from its on-screen layout.
- Choose a PDF destination if available in the print dialog or system print options. The name and location of that destination depend on your operating system and app; Microsoft’s Edge help page documents custom page selection, not identical destination controls on every platform.
- Save a new file with a distinct name, then open it and check its page count and contents.
Examples of page-range entry
2-5selects the continuous range from page 2 through page 5.2, 5, 9selects individual pages 2, 5, and 9.- A combination such as
1, 6-8may be accepted by a reader, but range syntax is application-specific. Use the format shown by its print dialog or help page.
For a web page, “pages” means the pages produced by print layout, not necessarily the visible screen or sections of the site. Check the preview before saving, especially if the page contains long content, sidebars, or elements that change when printed.
How to extract pages from an existing PDF in Acrobat desktop
Use extraction when you want selected pages in a new PDF and do not want the job treated as printing. Adobe’s desktop instructions describe extracting selected pages, optionally deleting those pages from the original, splitting them into individual files, or leaving the original unchanged.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat desktop.
- Choose All tools > Organize pages.
- Select the page thumbnails you want, then choose Extract pages.
- Choose whether to delete the extracted pages from the original, create a separate PDF for each extracted page, or leave the original unchanged while creating the new document.
- Select Extract, then save the resulting PDF.
Adobe says desktop extraction carries page content, form fields, comments, and links into the extracted document. Associated bookmarks and article threads are not extracted. These are Acrobat desktop details, not a guarantee about other editors or the print-to-PDF route.

How to extract pages with Acrobat on the web
Acrobat’s web workflow is another option for making a PDF from selected pages in an existing file. Its documented output handling differs from a local save: the extracted PDF is automatically saved to Adobe cloud storage.
- From the Acrobat web homepage, choose Edit > Extract pages.
- Select or upload the PDF.
- Choose the pages to extract and select Extract.
- Find the resulting PDF in Adobe cloud storage.
Adobe’s cited help page documents the cloud save. It does not establish account requirements or availability for every user, so check the current service prompts and storage terms before uploading a sensitive or restricted document.
How to save specific pages from a web page as a PDF
Open the web page in a browser and use its print dialog. If the dialog lets you set a custom page selection, enter the required range, review the print preview, then select the system or app’s PDF output destination if one is offered. Save and inspect the resulting file.

- Create and edit PDFs. Collaborate with ease. E-sign documents and collect signatures. Get everything done in one app, wherever you go.
- Edit text and images without jumping to another app.
- E-sign documents or request e-signatures on any device. Recipients don’t need to log in to e-sign.
- Convert PDFs to editable Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents.
- Share PDFs for collaboration. Commenting features make it easy for reviewers to comment, mark up, and annotate.
Page breaks are generated by the browser’s print layout, so a web page may paginate differently from what you see while scrolling. If the content is split awkwardly, check the app’s available print layout or scaling controls and review the preview again. Do not treat print preview as proof that the output preserves the original page’s interactive behavior.
Acrobat Reader’s print-range control
Adobe Reader reference documentation describes a Pages to Print control that can accept a single page, a range, or a combination; its example is 1, 6-18, 33, 98. The same reference says the preview updates as settings change. Because this is older reference material and current labels can vary by version, confirm the control names in the Reader version you use.
Common problems and fixes
- The PDF has the wrong pages. Reopen the source print dialog and check the range field, separators, and preview. Confirm whether page numbering starts at the first printed page or follows labels in the source document.
- You cannot find a “Save as PDF” option. The PDF destination is supplied by the operating system or application and is not named identically everywhere. Check the print dialog’s destination or printer list and the system’s print options. If no PDF destination is offered, use a PDF editor’s extraction workflow for an existing PDF, or another PDF output path available on your device.
- The new PDF looks different from the source. Printing creates output through a print pipeline. Inspect the preview and the saved file; if you need selected pages from an existing PDF with specific document features, use an extraction tool and check its documented preservation behavior.
- A web page breaks across pages badly. Review print preview and adjust available layout or scaling controls. Web content is repaginated for printing, and the screen layout is not a reliable page-break guide.
- Acrobat web output is not in the local folder you expected. The documented web extraction flow saves the result automatically to Adobe cloud storage. Retrieve it from there rather than assuming the workflow created a local file.
- Acrobat’s controls do not match these labels. Help pages and interfaces can change between versions. Locate the equivalent Organize pages or Extract pages function in your installed version and consult its current help if the path differs.
Performance, reliability, and file-handling considerations
For a short selection, a print dialog is usually a direct path: set the range, inspect the preview, and save. Extraction is more appropriate when the source is already a PDF and you need a separate file of selected pages or control over whether extracted pages remain in the original. The cited product instructions do not provide comparative speed or performance measurements.

Before sharing or archiving an output, open it and verify the page count, ordering, and visible content. If the PDF contains forms, comments, links, bookmarks, or other document features that matter, choose an extraction workflow whose documentation covers those features rather than assuming a print route will preserve them. For cloud extraction, consider whether storing the source and output in that service fits your privacy and retention needs.
