In iOS 26, enlarge the iPhone Lock Screen clock in the Lock Screen editor: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose Lock Screen if prompted, then drag the small handle at the lower-right of the clock’s outline downward. The handle is available only when the selected clock font and wallpaper support resizing; it is not a slider in Settings.
Enlarge the Lock Screen clock in iOS 26
- Wake your iPhone so the Lock Screen is visible.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Lock Screen until the wallpaper gallery appears.
- Tap Customize, then select Lock Screen if asked whether to edit the Lock Screen or Home Screen.
- Tap the clock if needed to show its outline. Look for the small resize handle at the outline’s lower-right corner.
- Press and hold the handle, then drag it downward to enlarge the clock. Drag upward to reduce it.
- Make any other changes and tap Done.
Apple’s iOS 26 iPhone User Guide confirms that the Lock Screen clock size can be adjusted. The specific handle-and-drag gesture is documented by MacRumors. There is no separate clock-size control at Settings → Display & Brightness, Settings → Wallpaper or Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size.
If the resize handle is missing
Check these causes in order; the control depends on the editor, the clock style and the wallpaper composition.

- Make sure you are editing the Lock Screen. From the wallpaper gallery, tap Customize and choose Lock Screen, not Home Screen.
- Switch to the default clock font. Reporting by 9to5Mac says iOS 26’s size expansion is limited to the default font. Other font styles may offer appearance options without the resize handle.
- Try a different wallpaper. A photo with open space around and above its subject gives the clock more room. A subject, crop or applied depth effect can constrain its placement or leave no usable space for the handle.
- Temporarily remove widgets. This is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix; it can help you see whether the current layout is limiting the composition.
- Adjust the photo composition. Try repositioning or pinching the image, or temporarily turn off a depth or spatial effect if one is active. Save, leave the editor and reopen it if the handle still does not appear.
- Check the installed iOS version. The resizing instructions are for iOS 26. Earlier versions do not have this iOS 26 control. If your iPhone is on an iOS 27 beta or later release, its Lock Screen editor may differ.
Apple says the time can adapt to the available space in a Lock Screen image, and describes that behavior as part of iOS 26. The photo’s subject and crop therefore affect how large the clock can appear; a missing or constrained handle does not by itself mean the phone is malfunctioning.

Why the clock may not get as large as expected
The resize gesture does not guarantee the same maximum size on every Lock Screen. iOS fits the time to the usable area of the selected image, while the clock font and photo composition can limit the available space. For the best chance of making it large, use the default font, choose a still image with clear space above its subject, and drag the handle down gradually to judge the layout.
What happens to Lock Screen widgets?
As the clock grows, existing Lock Screen widgets may shift downward toward the bottom of the display. That can leave less room for widgets and bring them closer to the flashlight and camera controls. The practical trade-off is among clock size, an unobstructed photo composition, visible widgets and comfortable access to the bottom controls; reduce the clock or rearrange the widgets if the resulting layout feels cramped.

Clock size, font and appearance are separate controls
- Size: The lower-right handle changes the clock’s size when the selected font and wallpaper allow it.
- Font: Font styles affect the clock’s look; according to 9to5Mac’s iOS 26 coverage, use the default style if you need the size handle.
- Color and appearance: These alter how the clock looks, not how far the resize handle moves. In iOS 26.2, a separate Liquid Glass transparency control adjusts appearance; it is not the size control.
- General text size: Do not rely on Accessibility text-size settings to enlarge this particular Lock Screen clock; the resizing control is in Lock Screen customization.
A larger clock can still be harder to read if it sits over a bright or detailed part of the image. If you use a translucent appearance, check that the digits remain legible against the wallpaper.

Do not assume the feature is available on every model that can run iOS 26. Apple notes in its iOS 26 iPhone User Guide that not all features are available on all iPhone models. Availability also depends on the clock font and wallpaper. Check Apple’s guide for current feature and device details rather than relying on an unverified model list.

Note for iOS 27 users
The steps above are specifically for iOS 26. In coverage dated June 9, 2026, 9to5Mac reported a different iOS 27 option for minimizing the clock into the top widget row. If you are using an iOS 27 beta or later release and cannot find the iOS 26 handle, check the controls in your current Lock Screen editor instead of assuming the interface is unchanged.
