To enable and open Web Capture in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S. In current Edge releases the feature is usually labeled Screenshot; older help pages and the command name still use Web Capture. Select Capture full page for the entire webpage without manually scrolling, or select an area for a cropped image.
Open Web Capture (now called Screenshot)
Edge includes webpage capture, so there is normally nothing to install or enable in a personal browser. The quickest route is the keyboard command:
- Open the webpage you want to capture in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- When the capture overlay appears, choose a capture scope.
Microsoft’s current feature page describes this command as: “Press Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture full page to grab everything at once, with no scrolling required.” The command is listed as web_capture in Microsoft’s configurable Edge commands documentation.
Use the page menu instead
If you prefer the mouse, right-click an empty part of the webpage and choose Screenshot or Web Capture. The exact wording depends on your Edge version and the terminology shown in the documentation you are following.

Use Edge’s main menu
You can also open the feature from Edge’s Settings and more menu (the three dots). Look for Screenshot or Web Capture. If the item is not visible, try the keyboard shortcut first; a managed-device policy can remove the command from all three locations.
Capture a full webpage or just part of it
After the overlay opens, Edge offers two practical scopes. Choose the one that matches what you intend to share or archive.

Full-page capture
- Open Screenshot/Web Capture with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Wait while Edge assembles content below the current viewport.
- Review the resulting image in the capture overlay.
Very long or highly dynamic pages can take longer to assemble. Content that changes while the page is being captured may not appear consistently, so allow the page to finish loading before starting.
Selected-area capture
- Open the capture tool.
- Choose the area-selection option.
- Drag from one corner of the region to the opposite corner.
- Adjust the selection if necessary, then confirm the capture.
Area capture is useful when the recipient needs one detail rather than an entire page. It also avoids creating a very tall image for a small piece of evidence.

The result opens in Edge’s capture overlay. Depending on the version, you can use drawing and markup tools to add notes, highlights or callouts. Keep annotations separate from the original evidence when accuracy matters: save an unmarked copy first, then create an annotated version for discussion.

Copy to the clipboard
Use the copy action in the overlay, then paste the image into applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote. Clipboard capture is convenient for a ticket or message where you do not need a permanent file.
Save a file
Use the save action to write the image to your chosen location. File type and naming controls can vary by Edge version. Give files descriptive names that include the page, date and scope, such as checkout-error-full-page-2026-09-30.png.
Why the name may say Screenshot instead of Web Capture
Microsoft has renamed the user-facing feature in current materials to Screenshot, while older instructions and policy documentation continue to call it Web Capture. Both names refer to the same built-in webpage capture function. The keyboard shortcut remains Ctrl+Shift+S, and the command identifier remains web_capture. This naming transition explains why a menu label in your browser may not match an older guide.

Availability and functionality can vary by device type, market and Edge browser version. Work through these checks in order.
Try every documented entry point
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Right-click the page and look for Screenshot or Web Capture.
- Open the three-dot Settings and more menu and search for the same labels.
If one route is absent but another works, the feature is available and only the menu presentation differs.

Check whether the device is managed
On a work or school computer, an administrator can control the feature with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Microsoft’s policy documentation says this policy determines whether Screenshot appears in the context menu, the Settings and more menu and the keyboard shortcut. Ask your Edge administrator whether the policy is configured to disable Web Capture. Do not rely on registry edits or unofficial flags as a general fix.
Confirm the browser context
Test the shortcut on an ordinary webpage rather than a browser settings page, extension page or another restricted internal surface. If the command works on normal sites but not on one particular page, the page context—not the capture feature—may be the limitation.

Update and retry
Because Microsoft notes that functionality varies by browser version, install the updates permitted by your organization, restart Edge and test again. If you cannot update a managed installation, contact the administrator rather than changing protected settings.
Choose the right capture workflow
- Use full page when the reader needs context from the beginning through the end of a document.
- Use an area when only one component matters or when you want a compact attachment.
- Annotate after checking that the capture contains the expected content.
- Copy for a quick handoff; save when you need a file you can reopen or attach later.
For pages with animations, lazy-loaded sections or content that appears after interaction, wait until the relevant material is visible before launching Screenshot. Edge’s built-in tool is designed for a person viewing the page; it is not a job queue or a programmable capture pipeline.

The shortcut does nothing
Another application or an organization policy may be intercepting the shortcut. Try the right-click and Settings and more menu entries. If all three are missing, ask whether WebCaptureEnabled is disabled.

The capture is not full length
Make sure you selected Capture full page, not area selection. Let the page finish loading first, especially when sections appear after scrolling or interaction.

A popup or banner covers the result
Dismiss the popup or consent dialog before starting the capture. Edge’s built-in tool captures what the browser presents; it does not provide an automated consent-cleaning stage.
Content changes between captures
Dynamic pages can update while Edge assembles a long image. Capture after the page reaches a stable state, and repeat the capture if a live component changed during the first attempt.
There is no save or copy control
Check the overlay after the image finishes rendering and ensure the capture was confirmed. UI labels can differ by version; if controls remain absent, test a current Edge build or ask your administrator whether the installation is restricted.

Is Web Capture still available in Microsoft Edge?
Yes. Microsoft’s current name is Screenshot, while Web Capture remains in older documentation and the web_capture command name.
Does Edge need an extension for full-page screenshots?
No. The built-in Screenshot/Web Capture command can capture a full webpage without manual scrolling.
Can I capture only one element?
