To get typing suggestions in more than one language in Windows 11, turn on both physical-keyboard text suggestions and multilingual text suggestions under Settings > Time & language > Typing. Then make sure the languages and their keyboard layouts are installed under Language & region.
Turn on multilingual typing suggestions
- Open Start > Settings, or press Windows logo key + I.
- Select Time & language > Typing.
- Turn on Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard.
- Turn on Multilingual text suggestions.
The switches do different jobs: the physical-keyboard setting enables suggestions while typing on a hardware keyboard, and the multilingual setting enables text prediction in several languages. Microsoft’s [Windows text-suggestions guidance] says to enable Multilingual text suggestions if you want prediction in several languages.
Install the languages and keyboard layouts you use
If a language you want to type in is missing, open Settings > Time & language > Language & region, choose Add a language, and install it. In that language’s options, configure the appropriate keyboard or input layout before testing. Windows lets you add or remove languages and keyboard layouts in these settings; see Microsoft’s [Windows 11 language and input settings].
Test suggestions and accept a word
Try typing in a text field such as a Teams chat, Word document, or browser comment. Suggested words appear above the cursor. Select one with the mouse or touch, or use the keyboard controls:

- Press Up Arrow to show or enter the suggestion controls.
- Use Left Arrow or Right Arrow to move through suggestions.
- Press Enter to insert the selected suggestion.
- Click outside the suggestion window or press Esc to dismiss it.
If suggestions do not appear
- Check that Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard is on as well as Multilingual text suggestions.
- Under Language & region, confirm that each language you want to use is installed and has the intended keyboard or input layout.
- Try a plain text field or another app, such as Word, Teams, or a browser comment. Some applications have their own suggestion systems, so behavior can differ by app.
Turn suggestions off
To stop the feature, return to Settings > Time & language > Typing and turn off the relevant switch. Disable multilingual suggestions to stop cross-language prediction, or disable physical-keyboard text suggestions to stop suggestions while typing with a hardware keyboard.
