In Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22563, Microsoft began a staged rollout of a Bluetooth device selector in Quick Settings. If your compatible 22563-era installation did not receive it automatically, a community-reported ViVeTool workaround may expose it. This is a historical preview-build procedure—not a general tweak for current Windows 11, where the selector is normally built in.
The selector is a Windows interface improvement, not a new Bluetooth standard or driver. It lets you manage supported paired devices from Quick Settings, while battery information appears only for devices that report it.
What the Bluetooth device selector does
Previously, the Quick Settings Bluetooth tile mainly provided an on/off control, with device management taking you into Settings. The Build 22563-era selector added a flyout modeled more closely on Wi-Fi selection. From it, users could review supported devices and connect or disconnect them; compatible devices could also show battery levels. Microsoft described the feature as a gradual rollout, so not seeing it immediately did not necessarily mean Bluetooth was broken.

Check your Windows build first
- Press Win + R.
- Type
winverand press Enter. - Check the version and OS build in the About Windows window.
Use the workaround only if you are running Build 22563 or a closely related preview build for which the commands are known to apply. Build 22563 was a Dev Channel Insider preview released on February 24, 2022—not a current retail release. A higher build number does not guarantee that the same feature IDs or commands still work.
Before you begin
- Confirm that your PC has Bluetooth hardware and a working adapter driver. Microsoft notes that missing Bluetooth settings can indicate unsupported hardware or a missing driver; see its guide to finding Bluetooth settings.
- Download ViVeTool only from a project source you can verify. The cited historical procedure does not establish a current official download URL, so avoid similarly named executables from unofficial download sites.
- Extract the archive into a folder you can find, such as
C:ViVeTool. Do not try to run the utility from inside the compressed archive. - Understand the trade-off: ViVeTool changes hidden Windows feature configuration. Feature flags are experimental and unsupported, and the commands may fail or behave differently outside the intended build.
Enable the selector with ViVeTool
Open the folder containing ViVeTool.exe. You can right-click an empty area of the folder and choose Open in Terminal, if that option is available. Otherwise, open Windows Terminal and change to the folder.

.vivetool addconfig 29881313 2These two feature IDs and commands were reported for the 22563-era implementation by GeekerMag. Microsoft’s announcement confirms the feature rollout, but does not document these IDs. The historical procedure includes both commands; Microsoft does not document whether the second ID is required on every compatible installation. ViVeTool output can vary by version, but look for confirmation that each configuration was set. Do not treat a successful message as proof that the feature is supported on other builds.

- What Can I do if the Bluetooth adapter can not work?: Ensure there are no other Bluetooth devices installed on the computer. If there are, disable all existing Bluetooth devices in "Device Manager", then insert the adapter and try again. (For detailed information please read the user manual)
If Terminal says the command is not recognized, confirm that you are in the folder containing the executable. In PowerShell, the . prefix is required to run a program in the current folder; you can instead use the full path:

C:ViVeToolViVeTool.exe addconfig 29881313 2If the command reports an error, check the feature IDs for typos, confirm the ViVeTool version is compatible with the build, and make sure security software has not blocked the utility. Do not disable security protections broadly to force an experimental command to run.

Restart and open the selector
Restart Windows after running both commands; a full restart is the clearest way to reload the feature configuration. You can restart from the Start menu, or run this in Command Prompt:

shutdown /r /t 0After the PC starts again:
- Press Win + A to open Quick Settings.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- On the Bluetooth tile, select its arrow or device-management control.
- Choose a paired device to connect or disconnect it, or select a discoverable device to continue pairing.
Labels and layout can differ between Build 22563 and later Windows versions. A newly added device still needs to be powered on and put into pairing or discoverable mode, and Windows may ask you to confirm pairing. The selector does not bypass that process. Battery percentages are conditional: the device, adapter, driver, and Windows must support battery reporting.

If the selector does not appear

If Bluetooth itself does not work, troubleshoot the adapter and driver separately. Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guide covers adapter and discovery issues. On recent Windows 11 versions, it also describes changing discovery to Advanced when a device is not found; that option may not exist in the Build 22563 preview interface.
Use the built-in selector on current Windows 11
If you are on a current retail Windows 11 release, skip the ViVeTool commands. Microsoft documents the selector as a normal Quick Settings control: select the Network, Sound, or Battery icon cluster beside the clock, select the Bluetooth tile, then choose Manage Bluetooth devices. Choose a device under New devices to begin pairing, or manage an already paired device. The current labels may not match those in the 22563 preview. If the Bluetooth tile is missing, use Quick Settings editing to add it or open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
Undoing the workaround
ViVeTool versions can differ in their reset or disable syntax. Use the instructions that match the exact tool version and build rather than guessing a rollback command. If the Quick Settings shell becomes unstable, revert the flags using that verified method and restart Windows. If problems persist, use Windows recovery options or remove the preview build through supported Windows recovery paths. Feature flags are not a substitute for a supported settings change.
