The narrow tab on a Samsung phone’s screen is the Edge panel handle; swiping inward from it opens Samsung’s Edge panels. To remove the sidebar, go to Settings → Display → Edge panels and switch it off. You can turn it back on from the same screen, or keep it enabled and adjust the handle instead.
Turn off the Samsung Edge panel sidebar
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display, then Edge panels.
- Turn off the Edge panels switch.
The handle disappears, and swiping from the screen edge no longer opens Samsung Edge panels. This turns off the feature; it does not uninstall apps or erase phone data. Samsung notes that Edge panels are not available on every Galaxy model or software version. Samsung’s Edge panels instructions show the standard settings path.
Turn Edge panels back on
Go to Settings → Display → Edge panels and turn the switch on. The handle should return at its previously configured side and position, although a device or software change may reset its layout. If it does not appear, use the handle and troubleshooting checks below.

Keep Edge panels but make the handle less distracting
If you use the panels but trigger them accidentally or dislike the visible tab, adjust the handle rather than turning off the feature. Open Settings → Display → Edge panels → Handle. On some versions, you can also open an Edge panel, tap its gear icon, and choose Handle.

- Position: Put the handle on the left or right side and move it higher or lower.
- Size and transparency: Make it smaller or less visible if it distracts you; increase its size or reduce transparency if it is hard to find.
- Color: Change the handle’s appearance.
- Lock handle position: Keep it from moving after you have placed it comfortably.
If you want the tab completely gone, switch off Edge panels; changing handle settings only alters its appearance or location. Samsung documents these handle controls in its Edge panels support instructions.
Remove individual panels instead of the whole sidebar
Edge panels can contain shortcuts, tools, contacts, app pairs, and other content. If you want to keep the sidebar but reduce its pages, swipe inward from the handle, tap the gear icon, then select or deselect the panels you want. Leave the main Edge panels switch on.

Samsung says users can select up to ten panels on supported devices; the available choices depend on the phone, software version, region, and installed components. The distinction is simple: switching off Edge panels removes the sidebar, deselecting a panel removes a page from it, and Handle settings change the tab itself. Samsung explains panel selection here.

Menu names and locations can vary by Galaxy model, carrier firmware, region, and One UI version. Samsung commonly calls the feature Edge panels; older software may call it Edge screen. Samsung says the name changed to Edge panels beginning with Android 11 (One UI 3), while the basic function remained similar. Samsung Korea describes the terminology change.

If you cannot find the option, open Settings and search for Edge panels, Edge screen, or Handle. Searching is a practical fallback, not a guarantee that a model supports the feature.
If the setting is present but the handle is invisible
- Open Settings → Display → Edge panels and confirm the main switch is on.
- Open Handle; make it larger or less transparent so it is easier to see.
- Check both sides of the screen and adjust the handle’s vertical position.
- Check whether Lock handle position is preventing you from moving it.
- Restart the phone if the switch is on but the handle still does not appear.
- Install available system updates if the problem began after a software change.
Check Easy mode and model support
Samsung support says Edge panels are not supported while Easy mode is enabled. Check Settings → Display → Easy mode and turn Easy mode off if you need Edge panels. Samsung also identifies Edge panels as unavailable on some models and software versions; if the setting remains absent, check the manual or support page for your exact model. Can you download more Edge panels?
Do not assume older Galaxy Store instructions still apply. Samsung’s update documentation for the SM-A256E software branch says Edge-panel downloads from the Galaxy Store ended with One UI 7. That establishes the change for the documented branch, not identical behavior on every Galaxy model. On older software, the menu may offer Galaxy Store downloads; on devices running One UI 7 or later, you may only see panels already supported by the phone. If another floating tab remains after you switch off Edge panels, it may belong to a different feature or app—for example, an accessibility control, Game Booster, a launcher, or a third-party gesture tool. Edge panels are not the same as navigation gestures, multi-window controls, or every app’s sidebar. Identify the tab’s icon and the gesture that opens it before changing unrelated settings.
