The simplest way to embed a YouTube playlist in WordPress is to add the YouTube Embed block, paste the playlist URL, and select Embed. WordPress displays the playlist’s first video and provides playlist navigation in the player. You can also copy YouTube’s generated embed HTML and paste it into an HTML-capable WordPress area when you need more control.
Embed a playlist with WordPress’s built-in block
- Copy the playlist URL. Open the playlist on YouTube and copy the address from your browser or YouTube’s sharing controls.
- Open the WordPress editor. Edit the post or page where the playlist should appear.
- Add a YouTube Embed block. Select the plus button, search for YouTube, and insert the YouTube block.
- Paste and embed. Paste the playlist URL into the block and select Embed.
- Save or publish. The block should show the playlist’s first video. Viewers can use the player’s playlist controls to move through the other videos.
This native method does not require a plugin and keeps the embed editable from the normal block editor.
Use YouTube’s generated embed HTML
YouTube also provides an official manual route that is useful when you want to work with embed options directly.

- Select Share, then choose Embed.
- Copy the HTML supplied by YouTube.
- In WordPress, paste it into an HTML-capable area, such as a Custom HTML block. In the Classic Editor, use the Text (HTML) view rather than the visual view.
- Preview the page before publishing.
The generated code is still YouTube’s player, so YouTube’s API Terms of Service and Developer Policies apply to use of the embedded player.

Which embedding method should you choose?

A plugin is optional, not a prerequisite. If you consider one, check that its features match your need, that it is maintained for your WordPress version and theme, and how it handles privacy, performance, and configuration before installing it.
Make the embed responsive
Check the page in the editor preview and on the published site at both desktop and phone widths. WordPress provides a media-resizing control for smaller screens; when responsive resizing is enabled, the player keeps its aspect ratio. Wide and full-width display options depend on your theme supporting those alignments, so a wide setting may not change the visible width in every theme.

- Confirm the player does not overflow the content column on a phone.
- Check that the first video loads and the playlist control is visible.
- Test the page while logged out if the playlist is intended for the public.
- Check your theme’s spacing so the player is not hidden behind a sidebar or another block.
Optional YouTube embed settings
When you use YouTube’s HTML route, YouTube documents optional URL parameters for common behaviors:
- Autoplay: an
autoplay=1parameter requests automatic playback. Browsers may still block autoplay, particularly when sound is enabled. - Start time: a
startvalue specifies the starting point in seconds. - Captions:
cc_load_policy=1requests captions. YouTube also documents an optional caption-language parameter.
Use YouTube’s current embed instructions when adding or changing parameters, because browser policies and player behavior can affect the result.

Privacy-enhanced mode
YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode uses the youtube-nocookie.com embed host. YouTube says views in this mode do not personalize the viewer’s YouTube experience. That wording does not mean the embed is completely tracking-free, so do not present it as an all-tracking solution.
Why an embedded playlist may not show or play every video
An embed can work correctly while individual playlist items remain unavailable. Check these conditions when a video is missing, skipped, or replaced by an error message:

Visibility
WordPress supports embedding public and unlisted YouTube videos and playlists. A private video will not play for general visitors; it can play only for viewers with whom the owner shared it.
Embedding permission
A video owner can disable playback on third-party websites. If embedding is disabled, the item may work on YouTube but not inside your WordPress page.

Age restrictions
Age-restricted videos generally cannot be watched on most third-party sites. Visitors may need to open the video on YouTube instead, and the item may not play within the embedded playlist.
Playlist changes
The playlist owner may have removed a video, changed its privacy, or added an item that cannot be embedded. Reopen the playlist on YouTube to verify its current contents and permissions.

That designation affects personalized advertising and some player features. Review YouTube’s current requirements before publishing the embed and choose the designation that accurately describes your audience.
