You can edit WooCommerce pages visually in WordPress, but the correct screen depends on your theme and on whether you are changing page content or a shared store template. Block themes use Appearance > Editor for templates, headers, footers, products, the Shop layout, Cart and Checkout. Classic themes let you edit page content under Pages > All Pages (or in the page builder that owns it), but they do not provide the block-theme Site Editor for store templates.
First identify what you are editing
WooCommerce distinguishes between a page assignment, the content inside a page, and a template that controls many pages. Choosing the wrong one can make a harmless change apply across your entire catalog.
Page content
Content placed in a WordPress page is edited from the page editor. This is where you might add an introduction, image, heading or notice to a page that your theme actually renders as normal page content.
Page assignment
WooCommerce creates Shop, Cart, Checkout and My Account pages during setup, along with an unpublished draft Refund and Returns Policy page. Their jobs are different:

- Shop: displays the product catalog.
- Cart: displays selected products, quantities and totals.
- Checkout: collects customer, shipping and payment details and shows order review.
- My Account: displays customer information and orders.
Changing the page’s text does not change which URL WooCommerce uses for these functions. To change the assignment, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced and select the relevant page. Cart, Checkout and My Account must be separate pages; assigning them all to one page can cause incorrect redirects and payment-gateway failures.
Shared templates
A template is a block layout reused by multiple pages, posts or products. Editing the Single Product template, for example, changes every product that uses it. Use a custom template only when one product or group should be an exception. Confirm the scope shown by the editor before saving a layout change.

Check your theme before opening an editor
- In the WordPress dashboard, look for Appearance > Editor.
- If it is available, your active theme supports the WordPress Site Editor (a block theme), and you can edit templates, template parts, blocks and global styles visually.
- If you instead see Appearance > Customize, you are likely using a classic theme. Edit ordinary content from Pages > All Pages, or open the page builder that controls the page.
Blocks can be used in pages and posts with a classic theme, but a classic theme does not provide the block-theme Site Editor for WooCommerce shop templates. The exact controls also depend on the theme and any builder or extensions installed.

Edit WooCommerce layouts with a block theme
Use this route for store-wide visual changes such as a header, footer, product layout, catalog layout, Cart or Checkout arrangement.

- Open Appearance > Editor.
- Choose Templates to edit a reusable page type, or Patterns/Template parts for reusable sections such as headers and footers.
- Open the relevant WooCommerce template, such as the product catalog, Single Product, or a page template.
- Select blocks in the canvas or in List View. Add, remove, move or configure blocks using the visual controls.
- Use global styles when the change should affect typography, colors, spacing or other site-wide design settings.
- Preview the relevant shop, product or account page, then select Save only after checking the complete layout.
The Shop page can look unlike an ordinary page because WooCommerce renders it through a product-catalog template. On a block-theme site, edit that catalog template in the Site Editor. Changing the Shop page slug does not simply remove WooCommerce’s /shop/ route.
Edit pages with a classic theme or page builder
- Go to Pages > All Pages and open the page you want to change.
- Make the visual change in the WordPress block editor, or select Edit with the page builder that controls the content.
- For Cart, Checkout or My Account, verify that this is the page assigned in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced before editing it.
- Preview the page at its customer-facing URL and select Update.
If the visible content is not controlled by the page editor, the theme, a template or a builder is probably rendering it. Editing the page body will not override that layout. A classic theme may expose its own WooCommerce settings, but those controls are theme-specific rather than part of the block-theme Site Editor.

Customize Cart and Checkout without code
Block-theme route
For a block theme, open Appearance > Editor > Templates > WooCommerce > Page: Cart for the Cart template. Open the corresponding Checkout template for checkout changes. The Cart block can display products, quantities, order totals, discounts, shipping and checkout options. The Checkout block combines customer details, shipping and delivery, payment methods and order review.

For a classic or non-block theme, edit the page assigned as Cart or Checkout under Pages > All Pages. If a page builder controls the page, make the change in that builder rather than in the default editor.

Check extension compatibility
Cart and Checkout blocks are not automatically compatible with every extension. WooCommerce marks compatibility on individual WooCommerce.com extension product pages. Extensions that inject markup through legacy hooks may require integration work or may not expose their controls in the block experience. Test coupons, shipping, taxes, payment methods and any extension fields in a staging copy before replacing a working checkout.
Know which Cart and Checkout version you have
Stores started after WooCommerce 8.3 was released in November 2023 have Cart and Checkout blocks by default, according to WooCommerce documentation. Older stores may still use classic shortcodes. In the editor, use the transform control to switch between the block and classic versions when that option is available. Verify the actual setup on your site instead of assuming it from the store’s age.

- Check the location: you may be editing a page while the visible design comes from a template, or vice versa.
- Open List View: a block may be nested inside a parent block, template part or column.
- Look for locking: the theme or a parent block can lock movement, removal or other controls.
- Confirm the active theme: only a block theme supplies the Site Editor template workflow.
- Check the builder: a classic theme’s page builder may own the content area.
- Update carefully: WooCommerce recommends confirming the theme and keeping WordPress and WooCommerce up to date when expected controls are absent.
Preview safely and recover from a bad change
- Preview the exact customer-facing page affected: a product, catalog, Cart, Checkout or account screen.
- Test logged-out and logged-in views where relevant, and run a test order through shipping, payment and order confirmation.
- Save only when the intended scope is correct.
- If the result is wrong, use the editor’s undo history or restore the previous template version. If a shared template caused the problem, revert that template rather than editing every individual product.
Keep a staging site or backup before major template changes. This is especially important for checkout, where an apparently cosmetic change can interfere with extension output or payment flows.

The practical choice is therefore determined by two questions: does the active theme provide Appearance > Editor, and is the target a page’s content or a shared template? Answer those before changing anything, then verify extension compatibility for Cart and Checkout.
