To copy image URLs already present in a page, open the browser’s DevTools Console and run copy($$('img').map(img => img.src).join("n"));. To find images added after scrolling or interaction, use the Network panel instead. To download files in bulk from a bounded site directory, use GNU Wget with recursion limits and a narrow file filter.
Choose the method that matches the images you need
| Method | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| DevTools Console | Quickly copying URLs from <img> elements already in the page DOM |
Misses CSS backgrounds, iframe content, and images not yet inserted or loaded |
| DevTools Network panel | JavaScript galleries, lazy-loaded images, API-delivered images, or higher-resolution versions | Requires reloading or interacting with the page and filtering requests |
| GNU Wget | Repeated or bulk downloads from a bounded site path | Can fetch unrelated files and use substantial bandwidth, server resources, and disk space if scope is broad |
These approaches collect different things. The Console method reads image elements currently in the DOM; the Network panel shows requests the browser actually made; Wget follows references in retrieved HTML and CSS. Decide whether you need URLs, actual downloaded files, or both before starting.
Copy image URLs from the current page
Run the Console expression
- Open the page containing the images.
- Open your browser’s developer tools and select the Console tab.
- Run
copy($$('img').map(img => img.src).join("n"));. - Paste the clipboard contents into a text editor or spreadsheet and review the URLs.
The expression selects the page’s img elements, reads each element’s src property, joins those values with line breaks, and copies the result. The DevTools documentation also demonstrates console.table($$('img'), ['src','alt']), which lets you inspect each image URL alongside its alt text before copying.
This gives you URL strings, not image files. It reports the current src property; it does not promise to identify the best-resolution source or every image a visitor could eventually see. Depending on the page, an image may use srcset or a lazy-loading attribute before its final URL is assigned. Review results rather than assuming every copied URL is an original image.

What the DOM method leaves out
- Images used as CSS backgrounds rather than as
<img>elements. - Images inside an iframe, which belongs to a separate document.
- Images that appear only after scrolling, clicking, selecting a gallery option, or waiting for JavaScript.
- Image URLs held in page data or requested from an API but not yet represented by an image element.
If the page is a gallery or the output looks incomplete, use the Network panel. If you only need the elements currently visible in the document structure, the Console is usually the quickest route.
Find images loaded dynamically with DevTools Network
- Open DevTools and select Network.
- Reload the page while the Network panel is recording so you can see the requests made during loading.
- Filter the request list by image or resource type, using the controls available in your browser.
- Scroll the page or use the gallery controls that reveal the images you want, then inspect the new requests.
- Check a request’s initiator and preview, where available, to distinguish the intended image from a thumbnail, tracking pixel, sprite, or unrelated asset.
- Copy the relevant request URLs. Chrome documents options to copy a single request URL, all URLs, filtered URLs, or export requests as a HAR file.
This method is useful when a page fetches images only as needed, substitutes a larger image after a click, or obtains image URLs from an API. Reloading and interacting matter: a request list only shows traffic observed in that browsing session. If you do not trigger a gallery state or scroll far enough for lazy loading, its image requests may never appear.
A long list of image requests is not necessarily a clean list of content images. Inspect the request and its context before saving it. Small tracking assets, icons, thumbnails, responsive variants, and duplicate files can all appear alongside the images you care about.

wget -r -l1 --no-parent -A.jpg,.jpeg,.png,.gif,.webp https://example.com/gallery/
Replace the example URL with the directory you are authorized to retrieve. This command recursively retrieves linked content to depth 1, avoids ascending to the parent directory, and accepts files matching the listed suffixes. GNU Wget’s manual describes recursive parsing of HTML and CSS references, including href, src, and CSS url() values; it also gives a similar shallow GIF-download example.
Keep the crawl in scope
-renables recursive retrieval.-l1limits recursion depth to one level. A deeper value can fetch more linked content; do not increase it without a reason.--no-parentprevents Wget from ascending above the requested directory.-Alimits accepted filenames by suffix or pattern. Adjust the list to the file types you actually need.
If the directory links to other hosts, GNU Wget documents using -D example.com or directory inclusion rules to constrain domains or paths. Test on a small scope first. A shallow crawl is still a crawl: inspect the command’s target and expected scale before running it.
Watch for query-string URLs
Some image URLs have a query string, such as a URL whose visible filename does not end in .jpg. Wget’s accept/reject matching uses the filename portion, so a suffix filter may not behave as you expect for every query-string URL. Check the manual behavior for the Wget version installed on your system and verify the resulting file list rather than assuming every image was accepted.

When a screenshot is enough instead of downloading image files
If your real goal is to save what a page looks like—rather than collect and download each underlying image—ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF capture. It is not a replacement for extracting original image files or their URLs.
Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot of a page, make a GET request with a URL and API key. The following cURL example saves a WebP response; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available parameters.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Check the results before using or sharing them
- Open a sample of the copied URLs or downloaded files to confirm they point to the intended images.
- Check for duplicate responsive variants, thumbnails, sprites, icons, and tracking pixels.
- Confirm whether the URL is an original or a resized version; the request’s preview and context can help.
- Compare the number and type of results with the page’s gallery or directory so missing lazy-loaded images are not mistaken for a complete collection.
Download responsibly and limit the crawl
Download only material you are authorized to use. Respect the site’s terms, access controls, copyright, and applicable law, especially before redistribution. GNU’s Wget manual warns that recursive retrieval should be used with care: broad retrieval can burden remote servers, while unchecked downloads can consume bandwidth, CPU, and local disk space.
Keep recursion shallow and restrict domains, directories, and file types where possible. For repeated retrieval, add a delay between accesses, monitor the destination disk space, and stop the job if it is fetching unrelated content or growing beyond the expected scope.

The Console command fails or copies nothing
Make sure you ran the expression in the page’s DevTools Console, not in an unrelated text field. DevTools helpers such as $$ and copy are browser-console conveniences; they may not exist in every console environment. If the page has no current <img> elements, the result can be empty. Try the Network panel, or scroll and interact with the page before rerunning the expression.

The copied URLs are thumbnails or duplicates
Image elements can point to thumbnail or responsive variants, and a page may include repeated elements. Inspect the URL, dimensions or preview, and surrounding gallery state. For images fetched after a selection or click, use Network and inspect the request initiated by that interaction.

Expected images do not appear in Network
Reload with Network recording, then reproduce the action that loads the image: scroll, open the gallery, or select the relevant option. Lazy-loaded content may not be requested until it approaches the visible area. An iframe or a different page state may require separate inspection.
Wget downloads too much
Stop the crawl and narrow the starting URL, depth, accepted suffixes, and host or directory rules. The -l1 and --no-parent options in the example are there to bound retrieval; do not remove them casually. Check the destination directory and free disk space before retrying.
Wget misses images with query strings
A suffix accept rule may fail when the filename portion does not end in a listed extension. Inspect the actual URL form and consult the manual for the Wget version installed. For a browser-rendered page, collecting the actual image requests in Network may be more appropriate than relying on suffix matching.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Use domain or directory inclusion rules such as Wget’s documented -D example.com option, then test against a small target. Confirm the allowed host and path before letting a recursive run continue.
FAQ
Does copying image links download the images?
No. The Console expression copies URL text to the clipboard. Use a downloader such as Wget for files, or save individual files from the browser.
Can I download images that require a login?
Only if you have permission and the site allows that access. The methods here do not bypass access controls; do not attempt to defeat authentication or other restrictions.
Will the Console expression find images in CSS?
No. It selects <img> elements. CSS backgrounds and other non-image-element resources require a different inspection path, such as reviewing browser requests in Network.
