There is no universal Android 14-to-Android 13 downgrade procedure. It is possible only when your phone maker provides an Android 13 package for the exact model, region and carrier variant, and the device’s bootloader and anti-rollback rules accept it. In most cases the process reinstalls system firmware and erases the phone.
A factory reset does not downgrade Android; it deletes user data while normally leaving the installed Android version unchanged. Pixel phones have Google’s Android Flash Tool and factory images, while Samsung’s documented Smart Switch rollback is mainly for supported beta devices. Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, ASUS, Sony, Nothing, Oppo, Vivo, Honor and others require model-specific instructions.
First, identify which kind of “downgrade” you need

Compatibility gate: check these before downloading anything
“Galaxy S23,” “OnePlus 11” or “Xiaomi 13” is not enough information. Record the exact model number, product codename, current build number, Android 14 security patch, country or region, carrier branding, SIM configuration and whether Android 14 is stable or beta. Firmware differs by processor, modem, storage, partition layout and bootloader revision. A package for a similar-looking phone can disable radios or prevent booting.

Availability can change, so check the manufacturer’s current support or developer page.
- Check anti-rollback and bootloader revision. A phone can reject an older Android release even when the file appears correct.
- Confirm bootloader eligibility. Carrier restrictions may make OEM unlocking unavailable. Never bypass that restriction.
- Accept the wipe. Google says factory-image flashing requires a full reset, and bootloader unlocking normally triggers one. Samsung’s beta rollback also initializes the device.
- Prepare the computer and connection. Charge to at least 50–60%, install the correct OEM drivers and platform tools, use a reliable data cable, and connect directly rather than through a hub, monitor port or extension adapter.
- Download only from the OEM or a source that supplies verifiable official files. Do not use modified tools or random firmware mirrors.
Back up as if nothing will be restored automatically
A backup made on Android 14 is not a guaranteed image of the phone and may not restore fully to Android 13. Android’s Google backup does not include every app’s data. Encrypted backups may require the old PIN or password.

- Copy photos, videos, documents, downloads and recordings to a computer or other storage.
- Export contacts and messages where your apps support it.
- Verify WhatsApp or other app-specific backups separately.
- Export authenticator accounts and save two-factor recovery codes.
- Confirm access to your password manager, passkeys, banking apps and recovery email.
- Record eSIM details and obtain carrier reactivation instructions.
- Ask your employer or school how to recover a work profile or device enrollment.
After a wipe, you may also need the Google or manufacturer account previously used on the phone. Removing an account does not make an incompatible firmware package safe.
Google Pixel: the clearest official path
Google provides both a browser-based Android Flash Tool and downloadable Pixel factory images. These work only for supported Pixel models with an available, matching image; they do not override carrier restrictions or anti-rollback protection.
Method A: Android Flash Tool
- Back up the phone and verify your critical credentials.
- Open Settings > About phone and tap Build number repeatedly until Developer options are enabled.
- Open Settings > System > Developer options and enable USB debugging. Enable OEM unlocking only if it is available and you understand that unlocking wipes the phone.
- Connect the Pixel directly to a computer with a reliable USB data cable.
- Open flash.android.com, allow the browser’s device connection, select the exact Pixel model and choose an available Android 13 image.
- Read the bootloader-unlock and data-wipe warnings, then follow the tool’s prompts. Do not disconnect the cable while it is downloading or flashing.
- Let the phone reboot, complete setup and restore data selectively.
The tool cannot install an image that Google no longer offers, a build blocked by the device’s rollback index, or firmware for a different model or region. If OEM unlocking is missing on a carrier model, stop rather than attempting a bypass.

Method B: manual factory image
Google’s archive packages commonly include flash-all.sh for macOS/Linux and flash-all.bat for Windows. Verify the codename and read the package’s included instructions before running anything. Do not casually edit the script or assume its wipe behavior is identical across releases.

For experienced users, the basic bootloader checks are illustrative only and are not an all-phone recipe:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flashing unlockfastboot flashing unlock is destructive on supported devices. AOSP documents that unlocking normally causes a factory reset. Do not relock the bootloader until the phone is running a completely official, correctly matched image that passes verification; relocking an incompatible installation can leave it unbootable.
Pixel anti-rollback warning
Android devices maintain rollback counters. Google documents a Pixel 6/6 Pro example in which Android 13 increased the anti-rollback counter and prevented certain returns to Android 12. The same principle matters here: a Pixel running Android 14 may reject Android 13 if its bootloader or security revision is newer than the Android 13 package permits. Check the exact image and device documentation rather than assuming every Pixel can return to Android 13.

- Withdraw from the beta in the Samsung Members app.
- Install Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac.
- Connect the phone by USB and approve the connection.
- Open Smart Switch and choose Downgrade if Samsung offers that option.
- Accept the initialization warning, let the phone reboot and complete setup.
- Restore only the backup made before leaving the beta.

If stable Android 14 is installed
Do not assume Smart Switch can install Android 13. Samsung firmware is signed and uses bootloader revision controls. If Smart Switch does not display a rollback option, stop. Odin is an advanced, model-, region- and revision-specific tool, not a universal Samsung downgrade button. A package with an older bootloader revision may be rejected even when the Android version number is lower. Cross-flashing carrier, processor or regional variants can break modem, camera, biometric or network functions.
How to treat other manufacturers

| Nothing | Check the exact phone and build for a manufacturer-supplied rollback package. |
| Oppo/Realme/Vivo | Expect region- and service-tool-dependent procedures; an authorized service center may be the only supported route. |
| Honor | Require confirmed model, region and official rollback availability. Avoid unofficial packages. |
| Carrier-branded phones | Treat them as potentially non-unlockable or firmware-restricted. Do not force a bootloader bypass. |
The phrase “all OEMs” therefore describes the decision process, not one set of commands. Partition names, image formats, slots and verification steps vary by device.
If the downgrade fails
- “Older version” or rollback-index error: stop. This usually indicates anti-rollback protection; do not attempt to force the check.
- OEM unlocking unavailable: check carrier status and the manufacturer’s policy. There is no safe universal bypass.
- Computer does not detect the phone: replace the cable, install the correct driver, use a direct USB port and try the manufacturer’s official recovery mode.
- USB transfer error: do not disconnect repeatedly or improvise commands. Reboot the computer and phone into the documented flashing mode, then retry only with the matching package.
- Boot loop: allow the first boot several minutes, then use the OEM’s official recovery or factory-image instructions. A boot loop does not prove that Android 13 is compatible.
- Phone enters Fastboot or recovery: use the manufacturer’s documented recovery path. Google notes that devices unable to boot normally can be flashed from Fastboot, but the image still must be correct.
- Verification failure or no cellular service: stop flashing. The firmware may be mismatched; seek OEM or authorized-service support.
Never cross-flash global firmware onto a carrier model, Exynos firmware onto a Snapdragon variant, dual-SIM firmware onto a single-SIM phone, or a different storage configuration. If the device is your only phone, work device or authentication device, professional service is safer than experimentation.

After Android 13 starts
- Complete setup and confirm that the device accepts your account.
- Test cellular calls and data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, camera, biometrics, speakers and charging.
- Check banking, DRM, authenticator and work-profile apps before deleting your backup.
- Install the newest Android 13 security patch still offered for that exact model, if any.
- Use supported system controls to defer unwanted updates; do not disable verification or security components.
Consider these alternatives first
If Android 14 has one troublesome app or feature, install the latest Android 14 bug-fix update, update or reinstall the app, test Safe Mode, reset network or app preferences, or perform a clean factory reset while remaining on Android 14. Contact the OEM or app developer, use an older supported device for a legacy app, or use an emulator/test device for development. Android 13 may have fewer current security fixes and can lose compatibility with newer apps.
Video safety checklist
A useful accompanying video should show model and build verification, backup preparation, Developer options, a direct USB connection, selection of the matching official image and the wipe warning. It should not demonstrate bypassing carrier restrictions, anti-rollback checks, account locks or verification, nor present Pixel commands as universal Android instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I downgrade from Android 14 to Android 13 without a computer?
Usually not for an official firmware downgrade. Some OEM recovery packages can be applied locally, but only when the manufacturer supplies one for the exact model and permits the rollback. A factory reset alone will not change Android versions.
Can a carrier-locked phone be downgraded?
Possibly, but carrier firmware may disable OEM unlocking or restrict flashing. If OEM unlocking is unavailable, do not attempt to bypass the carrier restriction; contact the carrier or manufacturer.

Can I restore an Android 14 backup on Android 13?
Some data may restore, but there is no guarantee. App data, encrypted backups, passkeys, authenticator accounts and work profiles often require separate preparation.
Can I return to Android 14 later?
Usually only if the OEM still provides a compatible Android 14 image or OTA. Returning may require another wipe, and anti-rollback rules still apply.
Does downgrading void my warranty?
An official, supported rollback is different from unlocking and modifying a bootloader. Warranty and service consequences vary by manufacturer, region and carrier; ask the OEM before proceeding.

No. A custom ROM is third-party software, not official Android 13 firmware. It can introduce security, DRM, banking, camera, modem and support problems.
The Bottom Line
Downgrade only after verifying an official Android 13 package for your exact phone, region and carrier state. Expect a complete wipe, respect anti-rollback and bootloader restrictions, and stop when the manufacturer does not provide a supported path.
