On supported Samsung Galaxy devices, open Settings → Display → Touch sensitivity and turn Touch sensitivity off. This disables Samsung’s enhanced touch-response mode; it is generally an on/off switch, not a slider for choosing a lower sensitivity level. If your phone is waking or registering touches in a pocket, use Accidental touch protection instead.
Turn off Samsung’s enhanced Touch sensitivity
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Find Touch sensitivity.
- Turn the switch Off.
Then test the screen in several situations: tap icons, type, scroll, and try the edges. Samsung describes this feature as increasing responsiveness, especially when a screen protector or gloves make touches harder to register. If it is enabled when you do not need that extra responsiveness, turning it off may help. The setting is not available on every Galaxy model, and labels can vary with model, region, Android version, and One UI release. If you do not see it, search for “Touch sensitivity” in Settings. Samsung explains the setting and its availability.
Turning it off may make the display harder to use through gloves or a screen protector. If that happens, inspect the protector and your setup before switching the feature back on.
If the screen activates in your pocket or bag
Touch sensitivity and accidental-touch protection address different problems. Touch sensitivity increases touch response; accidental-touch protection helps prevent unintended input when the phone is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag.

- Go to Settings → Display and turn Accidental touch protection on, if your model offers it.
- Go to Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures and turn Lift to wake off if the phone wakes when you pick it up.
- In the same menu, turn off Double tap to turn on screen or Double tap to wake, depending on the label on your device.
These changes can reduce unintended screen activation, but they also remove convenient wake shortcuts. Accidental touch protection may not be available on Galaxy tablets, and a lock-screen protection indicator may need to be dismissed before you interact with the screen. Inspect the screen protector and case
A screen protector can cause missed taps or make touch behavior seem erratic. Check for bubbles, dust or debris underneath, peeling edges, damage, poor alignment, unusual thickness, or multiple layers. A case lip or accessory pressing against the display can also interfere, particularly near the edges.

- Turn Touch sensitivity off, if it is on.
- Clean and dry the display, then test it with clean, dry fingers.
- Check that the case or another accessory is not pressing against the screen.
- If practical, test the phone without an ordinary removable protector. If it works normally bare, replace the protector with one suited to your model.
Do not casually peel off the factory-installed main-screen film on a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip. Samsung advises special care with these foldable films; contact Samsung or an authorized service provider if the film needs replacement or the inner display behaves abnormally. Samsung also advises turning Touch sensitivity off after removing the main protective film. Read Samsung’s foldable-film precautions.
Clean and dry the display; check charging
Moisture, dirty or dusty fingers, gloves, and debris can interfere with touch input. Fingernails, a ballpoint pen, or conductive objects such as keys and coins near the screen may also produce unexpected results. Gently wipe the display with a soft, lint-free cloth, without pressing hard, and test with clean, dry fingers. Water resistance does not guarantee normal touchscreen operation while the screen is wet or the phone is being used in water.

If the problem occurs while charging, disconnect the charger and test the screen again. If the behavior stops, try a different, undamaged charger and cable. A damaged or problematic charger can affect touch behavior; that does not mean every third-party charger causes ghost touches. Samsung’s touchscreen troubleshooting guidance covers moisture, charging, and other physical causes.
Restart, update, or check navigation gestures
If the screen still behaves incorrectly after you have checked its settings and physical condition:

- Restart: Use the phone’s normal Restart command, then test again.
- Update: Open Settings → Software update → Download and install, install any available update, and retest.
- Check gestures: If taps or swipes near the bottom or sides seem to be interpreted as navigation gestures, try Settings → Display → Navigation bar → Buttons. This changes how you navigate rather than reducing screen sensitivity; you can return to gestures if it does not help.
If the screen is completely unresponsive, Samsung documents a forced restart on many models: press and hold the Power/Side button and Volume Down button together for about 10 seconds. Button behavior can vary by model, so consult your device’s support guidance if that combination does not work.
When Touch sensitivity is missing
Not every Galaxy phone includes the Touch sensitivity switch. First search for Touch sensitivity in Settings in case your menu is arranged differently. If it does not appear, that is not necessarily a fault; continue with the relevant checks above, such as accidental-touch protection, wake features, the screen protector, moisture, charging equipment, and navigation gestures. Galaxy tablets may have different display controls, and Samsung notes that accidental-touch protection may not be supported on tablets. When to get the display checked
Seek Samsung or qualified repair support if ghost touches continue with Touch sensitivity off and accessories removed, a particular screen area has a dead zone or activates by itself, the display is cracked or separating, or the issue began after a drop, liquid exposure, or screen replacement. Stop experimenting with a foldable’s inner film and contact Samsung or an authorized service provider if it is damaged or the display acts abnormally.
For an unresolved intermittent or software-related problem, Samsung Members may offer a way to submit an error report. It cannot fix visible physical damage, which needs a service assessment. Samsung support options and service locations are available at Samsung Support.
