If a Cypress request is missing from the Command Log, first check whether HTTP requests are hidden, then whether the entire Runner log is disabled, and finally whether the request came from the application browser at all. Cypress normally shows application XHR and fetch traffic; cy.request() runs from Cypress’s Node process, so it does not pass through the browser traffic proxy that cy.intercept() observes.
1. Turn on HTTP request entries in Open Mode
In Cypress Open Mode, open the Command Log header’s Options menu and enable Show HTTP Requests. That option controls whether XHR and fetch entries are displayed in the log. If it was off, requests could still have run normally and remain available to assertions and cy.intercept(); enabling the option changes visibility, not test behavior.
After enabling it, reload or rerun the relevant test and trigger the request again. Look for the entry alongside the commands that caused the application activity. If it still does not appear, continue with the request-origin and intercept checks below rather than assuming the browser did not send it.

The HTTP-request display toggle is narrower than disabling the Runner’s command logging. Cypress documents two ways the log or Runner UI may be suppressed: setting CYPRESS_NO_COMMAND_LOG=1, or launching Cypress with the --no-runner-ui CLI option. The latter skips rendering the Runner UI and its usual Command Log updates.

Check the environment used to start Cypress, including shell scripts and CI configuration, for the environment variable. Also inspect the command used to launch Cypress for the CLI option. Remove or unset the relevant setting when you need to inspect the interactive log, then restart Cypress and run the test again. These settings are useful when isolating Runner performance issues, but they are not the same as a single request failing to appear.
3. Identify where the request originates
The decisive question is whether the application browser made the request or Cypress made it from Node. Cypress’s normal Command Log network entries represent application XMLHttpRequest and fetch traffic. By contrast, cy.request() is a Cypress command issued from the Node process. It does not enter the browser traffic proxy, so it will not appear in the browser’s Network tab and will not match cy.intercept().
| Request type | Origin and inspection location | Does cy.intercept() observe it? |
|---|---|---|
Application XHR or fetch |
Application browser; normally shown as HTTP request entries in the Cypress Command Log when that display is enabled. | Yes, when the route matcher matches the browser request. |
cy.request() |
Cypress Node process; inspect the Cypress command entry for details. It does not appear in the browser’s Network tab. | No. It bypasses the browser traffic proxy. |
For cy.request(), click its command entry in the Command Log to print request and response details in the browser console. In a CI run, Cypress documents Test Replay as another way to inspect information about cy.request() after the run. A missing browser Network-panel entry is expected for this Node-originated command; use the Cypress command details instead.

4. Inspect intercept routes and logging controls
If the missing traffic is application XHR or fetch, open the Routes panel and check the configured routes and their matching-request counts. A route with no matches may have a method or URL pattern that does not match the actual request. Confirm the request method, full URL, path, and any relevant query string against the matcher. A route that does match can still be configured not to display its request.
Look for { log: false }
Cypress supports suppressing a matching intercept’s log by setting log: false on a static response. For example:
cy.intercept('GET', '/api/profile', {
statusCode: 200,
body: { name: 'Ada' },
log: false,
}).as('profile');
This hides that matching request from the Command Log; it does not mean the route failed to match. Remove log: false while debugging if you want the request shown. If you use a broad intercept, inspect its scope carefully: a matcher using resourceType: /xhr|fetch/ can suppress logging for XHR and fetch requests across the application.

Use the alias to verify matching
When you need to confirm that Cypress saw a browser request, assign the route an alias and wait for it. The yielded interception can be checked directly:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →cy.intercept('GET', '/api/profile').as('profile');
// Trigger the application action that loads the profile.
cy.get('[data-cy="load-profile"]').click();
cy.wait('@profile').then((interception) => {
expect(interception.response.statusCode).to.eq(200);
});
Adapt the URL, selector, and expected status to the application. If the wait times out, distinguish a genuinely unmatched or unissued request from a display-only omission: check that the action actually triggers the request and that the route matcher describes its method and URL. If the wait succeeds but the entry is visually absent, recheck the HTTP display toggle and any log: false setting.
5. Resolve differences between Cypress and browser DevTools
On Cypress’s legacy network path, the browser may log a request before Cypress modifies it. As a result, the browser Network panel can show a different view from the request Cypress handled. When testing an intercept modification, verify the result in the Cypress Command Log or assert against the request after cy.wait('@alias'); do not treat the browser panel alone as proof that Cypress did not apply the change.

For example, if an intercept changes a request header or supplies a stubbed response, the useful evidence is the request or response represented by Cypress’s interception. Inspect that interception after the aliased wait and make assertions on the relevant fields. This keeps the test tied to what Cypress observed rather than to an earlier browser-side view.
6. Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you see | Likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
No application XHR or fetch entries appear in Open Mode. |
Show HTTP Requests is off, or the Runner log is disabled. | Enable the HTTP-request display in the Command Log Options menu. Check for CYPRESS_NO_COMMAND_LOG=1 and --no-runner-ui if the log as a whole is absent. |
cy.request() runs, but there is no matching intercept or browser Network entry. |
The command originates in Cypress’s Node process, not the application browser. | Click the cy.request() command entry for request and response details in the browser console. For CI, use Test Replay to inspect the run. |
| A route is listed, but its matching count does not increase. | The request may not have been triggered, or the method or URL matcher may not match it. | Trigger the application action and compare the actual method and URL with the route. Use an aliased cy.wait() to check whether Cypress observes a matching browser request. |
| The request matches an intercept but is not shown in the log. | The response may set log: false, or a broad intercept may suppress XHR/fetch logs. |
Review the static response and broad intercepts; remove the logging suppression while diagnosing. |
| The browser Network panel disagrees with Cypress’s view of a modified request. | On the legacy network path, the browser can log before Cypress modifies the request. | Verify the change in the Cypress log or assert against the interception yielded by cy.wait('@alias'). |
7. Turn on Runner diagnostics when the issue is deeper
If the problem is broader than one missing request—for example, you are investigating Runner behavior or Command Log performance—Cypress’s troubleshooting guidance describes enabling debug output from browser DevTools. In the browser DevTools console, set:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
localStorage.debug = 'cypress*';
Then enable Verbose logs in the relevant DevTools logging controls and reproduce the behavior. Cypress also documents CYPRESS_NO_COMMAND_LOG=1 as a way to isolate Command Log performance problems. Treat that as a diagnostic setting: because it disables logging, it is not a way to make individual missing HTTP entries visible.

8. Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo captures a website URL as an image or PDF; it does not inspect Cypress’s Command Log, observe requests, or replace cy.intercept(). If your separate task is to capture the page itself, its API can return a screenshot with one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Learn about ScreenshotNeo, or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
9. A quick decision path
- Is the missing item an application XHR or
fetch? Enable Show HTTP Requests in the Command Log Options menu. - Is the whole log missing? Check
CYPRESS_NO_COMMAND_LOG=1and the launch command’s--no-runner-uioption. - Is it
cy.request()? Inspect the Cypress command entry and console details, not the browser Network panel orcy.intercept(). - Is it browser traffic that still is not visible? Check route matching, Routes-panel counts,
log: false, and broad XHR/fetch intercepts. - Does browser DevTools disagree with an intercept? Verify the Cypress-side interception or assert on it after
cy.wait('@alias').
Frequently Asked Questions
Does hiding HTTP requests stop Cypress from sending them?
No. The Open Mode display option hides entries; Cypress states that hiding HTTP requests does not change how tests run.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why doesn’t cy.intercept() match cy.request() calls in Cypress?
Because cy.request() is issued from Cypress’s Node process and does not flow through the browser traffic proxy that cy.intercept() observes.
Can I see cy.request() details in a CI run?
Cypress documents using Test Replay to inspect cy.request() information after a CI run.
