The reliable way to create a short Amazon affiliate link for WordPress is to use Amazon Associates SiteStripe. Sign in to the Amazon account connected to your Associates account, open the destination page, choose Get Link: Text, verify the Associate ID and tracking ID, then paste the generated link into WordPress. A short link must still clearly lead to Amazon, retain its tracking parameters, and be accompanied by the disclosures Amazon requires.

What you need before creating the link

  • An active Amazon Associates account and its associated Amazon sign-in.
  • Access to the Amazon page you want readers to visit. For a product link, open that product’s page first.
  • Editing access to the WordPress post or page where the link will appear.

You do not need a physical product, an accessory, or a special WordPress tool to complete this browser-based workflow. Amazon’s official documentation describes SiteStripe as the quick way to create links from an Amazon page.

How to create the short Amazon link in SiteStripe

  1. Sign in with the connected Amazon account

Sign in to Amazon using the account associated with your Associates account. SiteStripe uses that account context to identify the publisher.

  2. Open the correct destination

Navigate to the Amazon page you want to link to. Open the individual product page when the recommendation is for a specific product; otherwise, use the relevant Amazon page that readers should see.

  3. Choose Get Link: Text

In the SiteStripe bar, select Get Link: Text. Amazon’s SiteStripe Help explains that SiteStripe can generate both short and long links for the current page.

  4. Check the IDs before copying

Confirm the displayed Associate ID and tracking ID. Amazon says the short link uses the last-used IDs by default, while SiteStripe also provides an option to select IDs. Choose the correct tracking ID for the site, content section, or campaign before copying.

  5. Copy the generated short link

Copy the URL exactly as SiteStripe generates it. Do not run it through a separate URL-shortening service or edit away its tagging parameters.

How to add the link in WordPress

  1. Open the post or page editor

Edit the WordPress post or page where the recommendation belongs.

  2. Write clear link text

Use wording that tells readers what they will open, such as “View this product on Amazon.” Avoid link text or buttons that conceal the destination.

  3. Insert the SiteStripe URL

Highlight the text, open WordPress’s normal link control, paste the SiteStripe URL, and apply it. The exact control can vary between the block editor and a classic editor, but no special affiliate-link field is required.

  4. Preview and test

Preview the page, activate the link, and confirm that it opens the intended Amazon destination. Check that the tagged Special Link remains intact and that the presentation makes Amazon recognizable to the reader.

Keep the short link tagged and transparent

A short URL is not permission to disguise where the click goes. Amazon’s Program Policies state: “You will not use a link shortening service, button, hyperlink or other ad placement in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site.” In practice:

  • Use the SiteStripe URL directly on your site whenever possible.
  • Do not replace it with a third-party shortened URL unless you have checked that service’s current behavior and compliance.
  • Keep the surrounding text, button label, or call to action clear that the destination is Amazon.
  • Do not remove the Associates ID or tracking ID from the generated Special Link.

Amazon’s Operating Agreement, updated October 15, 2025, covers tagged Special Links and the required site identification statement.

Disclosure requirements for a WordPress site

Put the site identification statement on the site

Amazon requires this statement: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” Place it where visitors can find it clearly, such as a site-wide disclosure page, footer, or other prominent site area consistent with your implementation.

Add a disclosure near the recommendation

Amazon’s disclosure guidance calls for a clear, conspicuous disclosure near the affiliate link or product review. Examples given by Amazon include “(paid link),” “#ad,” and “#CommissionsEarned.” Put the notice close enough to the recommendation that a reader sees it before or while deciding to click. These examples do not replace any additional disclosure duties that may apply in your jurisdiction.

SiteStripe versus a WordPress plugin

Amazon’s link-building help references SiteStripe and WordPress product-link tooling. The official material confirms SiteStripe’s short-link function, but it does not establish a particular plugin’s current availability, maintenance, or shortening features. A plugin is therefore optional, not necessary for creating a short URL.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • SiteStripe is missing: confirm that you are signed in to the Amazon account associated with Associates.
  • The wrong campaign is credited: return to the ID selector and verify the tracking ID before copying the link again.
  • The link opens the wrong page: recreate it while viewing the intended Amazon destination, then retest from the WordPress preview.
  • The URL was altered in WordPress: replace it with the original copied SiteStripe URL and test the published page.
  • Readers cannot tell where the button leads: change the link text or button label to identify Amazon and place the disclosure next to the recommendation.

Final checks before publishing

  1. Confirm the destination page and product, if applicable.
  2. Verify the Associate ID and tracking ID in SiteStripe.
  3. Paste the generated short URL without a third-party shortening step.
  4. Test the link from the WordPress preview or published page.
  5. Confirm that Amazon is recognizable as the destination.
  6. Check that the site statement and nearby link-level disclosure are visible.
  7. Recheck Amazon’s live SiteStripe instructions, Operating Agreement, and Program Policies because interfaces and terms can change.
