HBO Max lets one account hold up to five separate profiles. Each profile can have its own avatar, My List, Continue Watching queue, language, settings, ratings controls, and recommendations. Use Adult profiles for general viewing and Kids profiles for age-based limits and a child-focused interface.
Create a new HBO Max profile
- Open the profile chooser in the HBO Max app or on the website. If necessary, scroll until you see + New Profile.
- Choose an avatar, or skip that step.
- Enter a profile name from 1 to 14 characters.
- Choose whether the profile is an Adult or Kids profile.
- Follow the on-screen prompts and select Save.
HBO Max may request a birthdate and gender when creating an Adult profile. For a Kids profile, it asks for a rating group and birthdate. An account can contain no more than five profiles total.

Adult and Kids profiles: what differs?

The Philippines English help documentation gives PG (Ages 10+) as the default for a new Kids profile. Rating names and defaults can differ by country, so use the labels shown in your local app.
Edit a profile and personalize recommendations
Phone, tablet, or computer
- Open the profile menu.
- Select Manage Profiles.
- Choose the profile, change the available settings, and save.
TV
Open the profile chooser and select the edit or pencil icon beneath the profile. Some Apple TV versions show an Edit option instead.

You can generally change the avatar, name, language, ratings and other profile settings. The first use of a new Adult profile may offer preference choices for genres, brands, shows and movies. The cited help instructions say Adult-profile ratings are changed at HBOMax.com/editprofiles. If the birthdate is wrong, contact HBO Max support; it cannot be corrected directly in profile settings.
An Adult profile cannot be converted into a Kids profile. Kids Mode also cannot be turned off when the profile’s recorded birthdate is under 18.
Set up a Kids profile and Kid-Proof Exit
- Open Manage Profiles (or the TV edit control) and select the Kids profile.
- Choose the age-rating group and confirm the requested child details.
- Enable Kid-Proof Exit.
- Create or confirm the account’s four-digit Parent Code.
When Kid-Proof Exit is enabled, HBO Max requires the Parent Code before someone can leave that Kids profile and switch to another one. The same Parent Code applies to every Kids profile on the account where this option is turned on. This control governs leaving a Kids profile; it is not the same as locking an Adult profile.

- Open the profile menu and choose Manage Profiles on a phone, tablet or computer. On a TV, select the edit icon beneath the profile.
- Select an Adult profile with Kids Mode off.
- Choose Lock Profile.
- Authenticate as requested and create a four-digit Profile PIN.
The PIN is required when entering that locked Adult profile. To change or reset it, choose Reset Profile PIN and follow the account-password steps. The United States English help instructions say HBO Max sends the PIN-change or reset email to the account email address. Device labels and available controls can vary by market.

Switch profiles
- Open the profile chooser.
- Select the profile you want to use.
- If you are leaving a Kids profile protected by Kid-Proof Exit, enter the Parent Code.
- If the destination is a locked Adult profile, enter its Profile PIN.
On a TV, HBO Max may open to a Who’s Watching screen depending on the last profile used. Phones, tablets and computers generally reopen the last-used profile.
Delete a profile
- Switch to a different profile if the one you want to remove is active.
- Open Manage Profiles, or use the edit icon beneath the profile on TV.
- Select the eligible profile, choose Delete Profile, and confirm.
Deleting a profile permanently removes its associated information, including My List and Continue Watching. You cannot delete the profile currently in use or the first profile created for the account.

Common profile-management limits
- Only five profiles: Delete an unused profile before adding another when the account has reached the limit.

- Targeted access controls: Parent Code and Profile PIN protect the documented switching or entry actions, but they are not a guarantee of complete child safety.
