The reliable workflow is simple: design a multipage PDF, upload it as a LinkedIn Document post, then schedule that document from LinkedIn or a publishing tool that supports PDF auto-publishing. What creators commonly call a “carousel” is usually this swipeable document post—not LinkedIn’s separate sponsored Carousel API.

This guide covers profile and Page scheduling windows, third-party publishing, API limitations, file preparation, verification, and recovery when automation fails.

What LinkedIn calls a carousel

For an ordinary organic post, a carousel is normally a multipage PDF attached to a LinkedIn Document post. Readers swipe or scroll through the pages. In HubSpot’s documented workflow, the first PDF page becomes the displayed document image, and the composer does not let you remove or replace that image independently. Treat page one as both your cover and the post thumbnail.

Do not confuse this with LinkedIn’s developer “Carousel API.” LinkedIn’s current API documentation describes that route as creating sponsored carousel posts only. Organic document publishing uses a document asset upload and the Posts API; an organic multi-image post uses the separate MultiImage API. A PDF document post is therefore the safest interpretation of “carousel” for normal profile or Page publishing.

Create the carousel PDF

  1. Plan one idea per page. Define the reader’s promised outcome, then outline a cover, the teaching or promotional sequence, and a final action. LinkedIn’s reviewed documentation does not prescribe a slide editor, dimensions, page count, or design system, so choose a layout your audience can read on a phone.
  2. Build the pages. Use a presentation, design, or document editor. Keep text large, maintain strong contrast, and leave margins so important words are not clipped when LinkedIn renders the document.
  3. Export one multipage PDF. Confirm that each intended page is present and in order. Open the exported file on a phone and desktop before uploading; a source document that looks correct can still export missing fonts, cropped artwork, or blank pages.
  4. Give the document a useful title. Use a descriptive title that makes sense in LinkedIn’s document viewer and to screen-reader users. The title is separate from your post caption.

A practical page sequence

  • Cover: a specific promise, such as “A five-step launch checklist.”
  • Context: explain the problem or why the reader should continue.
  • Steps: one actionable point per page, with examples where useful.
  • Proof or detail: show a framework, before/after, checklist, or mini case.
  • Action: tell readers what to try, save, share, or learn next.

Publish a PDF carousel manually or natively

  1. Open LinkedIn’s post composer for the profile or Page you manage.
  2. Select the Document post type, not ordinary image media.
  3. Attach the multipage PDF and enter its document title.
  4. Write a caption that states the payoff and, when appropriate, invites readers to swipe or save.
  5. Preview the attachment. Check that the file is still recognized as a Document post, the cover page is correct, and the pages are ordered correctly.
  6. Choose Publish now or the scheduling control. Reopen the scheduled-post view to confirm the date, time, account, caption, and PDF.

If a third-party tool converts your PDF into separate images, it is no longer the same document-post workflow. Verify the post type in the final preview before relying on automation.

Schedule a personal-profile carousel

LinkedIn’s personal-profile Help instructions allow a scheduled post from 10 minutes to three months from the current time. In the composer, select the clock icon, choose the date and time, and confirm. LinkedIn standardizes the scheduled time in UTC using the device’s time-zone setting, so check the displayed local conversion before saving.

Scheduled posts can be viewed, edited, rescheduled, or deleted. The Help text reviewed for this workflow does not explicitly confirm that every document attachment remains eligible in every account state. After scheduling, open the scheduled-post list and verify that the PDF is still attached; if it is missing, cancel the item and publish through a supported route instead.

Schedule a LinkedIn Page carousel

A LinkedIn Page super admin or content admin can schedule a Page post from one hour to three months ahead. Choose the Page in the composer, attach the PDF as a Document post, set the caption and title, then select the scheduling option. LinkedIn says the post publishes automatically at the chosen time.

Page scheduling instructions exclude events, multiple-photo posts, reshares, polls, jobs, and service posts. A PDF Document post is a different format, but still confirm the attachment in the final scheduled preview. If you need to publish from a Page, make sure the person connecting the tool has the required admin or content permissions rather than only visitor access.

Use a third-party scheduler

LinkedIn’s Marketing Solutions partner directory names Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Sprinklr, and Falcon.io as scheduling partners. It describes Buffer and Hootsuite as supporting personal profiles and Pages, while Falcon.io integrates with Pages. The directory also mentions queues, bulk scheduling, and planning calendars. Because partner capabilities and plan limits change, treat the directory as a starting point and verify current document-post support in the product you select.

HubSpot’s documented route is: select a LinkedIn account, choose Document, add the PDF and document title, choose Schedule for later, review, and schedule. Sked’s vendor documentation likewise states that it supports scheduling and reviewing LinkedIn PDF document posts. Those are vendor descriptions, not a guarantee that every account, permission set, or subscription will auto-publish successfully.

Questions to answer before committing to a tool

  • Does it support your account type: personal profile, Page, or both?
  • Can it upload and schedule a PDF as a LinkedIn Document post, rather than as image media?
  • Does “schedule” mean automatic publishing, or a reminder for manual approval?
  • What permissions are requested, and can an admin revoke them later?
  • Can you preview the first page, edit the caption, reschedule, and delete a queued post?
  • Is document auto-publishing included on your current plan?
  • What happens if LinkedIn rejects the file or the connection expires?

API automation: what is and is not supported

LinkedIn’s Posts API documentation describes uploading a document asset and attaching it to a post. It points organic multiple-image publishing to the MultiImage API. The documented Carousel API route says it creates sponsored carousel posts only, so do not build an organic PDF workflow around that endpoint.

API access, permissions, supported post types, and version requirements must be checked for your application and account. The documentation warns that Marketing Version 202510 sunsets on October 15, 2026; migrate to a supported version before that date rather than hard-coding an expiring version. A production integration should also retain the returned asset identifier, log the post-creation response, and expose a manual retry path when an upload or permission check fails.

Automation sequence for an engineering team

  1. Generate and validate the PDF.
  2. Authenticate the LinkedIn application with the permissions required for the intended profile or Page.
  3. Upload the PDF as a document asset.
  4. Wait for the asset to reach the state required for publishing.
  5. Create the organic post referencing that document asset, with caption and visibility.
  6. Record the post identifier and response status.
  7. Run a post-publication check from the account’s feed or administration view.

Do not promise API-based scheduling until your application’s access and the current API version explicitly support the timing and account type you need. Native scheduling or a verified partner can be safer when the requirement is simply “publish this PDF next Tuesday.”

Design and scheduling checklist

  • PDF opens successfully and contains every page.
  • Cover page states the benefit clearly and works as the document thumbnail.
  • Text remains legible at phone size.
  • Links, QR codes, and calls to action are large enough to use.
  • Caption explains the payoff without repeating every slide.
  • Correct profile or Page is selected.
  • Document title is present.
  • Preview shows a Document post, not converted image media.
  • Scheduled date is inside the account’s allowed window.
  • Time-zone conversion is correct.
  • After scheduling, the attachment and caption are still visible in the queue.

Troubleshooting common failures

The PDF option is missing

You may be in an image-only composer, using a post type excluded by the account, or lacking Page content permission. Switch to the full post composer, select Document, and confirm the account role. If a connected scheduler does not show Document, check its plan and supported account types.

The post publishes without the carousel

The tool may have converted the PDF to images or created text-only media. Cancel the queued post, inspect its preview, and re-upload using the explicit Document option. Keep the original PDF available so you can retry without re-exporting.

The first page looks wrong

LinkedIn uses the first page as the document image in the documented workflow. Replace the cover in the source file, export again, and attach the new PDF; changing the caption cannot replace that image in the composer.

The scheduled time is wrong

Personal-profile scheduling is shown in UTC based on the device time-zone setting. Recheck the local-to-UTC conversion, then edit or reschedule the queued item. Page scheduling has a different minimum lead time, so a Page post attempted less than one hour ahead may not qualify.

Automatic publishing fails

Common causes are expired authorization, revoked Page permission, an unsupported file, a changed LinkedIn API version, or a vendor plan that supports reminders but not auto-publishing. Reconnect the account, verify the role, test a small document, and inspect the tool’s delivery log. Keep a native-scheduling fallback for time-sensitive campaigns.

An API call is rejected

Check that the application has document-upload and posting permissions, the asset belongs to the intended author, and the API version is still supported. The October 15, 2026 sunset for Marketing Version 202510 is especially relevant to integrations still pinned to that version.

Reliability, timing, and cost considerations

LinkedIn’s documented scheduling windows are operational limits, not recommendations for an “optimal” posting time. The reviewed sources provide no dated statistic proving that carousels or scheduled posts increase reach, and no evidence supports a universal best time. Choose timing from your audience’s needs and your own analytics rather than an invented benchmark.

Native scheduling avoids a second service and gives LinkedIn direct control of the queue. A third-party tool can add calendars, queues, bulk planning, team review, and cross-account workflows, but introduces another permission, subscription, and failure point. API automation offers repeatability and integration with content systems, while requiring ongoing version and permission maintenance. For any route, schedule early enough to detect a rejected file and keep an approved PDF ready for a manual fallback.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need clean screenshots of a landing page, product UI, or reference page to place inside a carousel, ScreenshotNeo can return an image or PDF from one GET request. It accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Use the API documentation at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/ for the current parameters. The same endpoint supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, request and resource blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen-TTL caching, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage data, and an OpenAPI specification. Common parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can ease migration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I schedule a LinkedIn carousel more than three months ahead?

The LinkedIn Help windows covered here stop at three months for both personal profiles and Pages, so a farther-out date requires a later scheduling action or a tool with its own compliant workflow.

Is a LinkedIn PDF carousel the same as a multi-image post?

No. A PDF carousel is a Document post. LinkedIn documents organic multi-image publishing through the separate MultiImage API.

What should I keep as a fallback for an automated campaign?

Keep the validated PDF, caption, account permissions, and a native-composer checklist so an administrator can publish manually if a vendor connection or API call fails.
