The quickest way to create a YouTube playlist is to open a video, select More (or Save), choose Save or Save to playlist, select Create new playlist, enter a name, choose Public, Unlisted, or Private, and select Create. The same basic process works for regular videos and Shorts, although button labels can differ by device and app version.
You do not need to own or upload the videos. A playlist can contain videos from different channels, subject to privacy, availability, region, copyright, and account restrictions.
Create a playlist from a video
On a computer
- Sign in to YouTube and open the video you want to add.
- Select More below the video.
- Select Save, then Create new playlist.
- Enter a playlist name.
- Choose Public, Unlisted, or Private.
- Select Create.
These steps are documented in YouTube’s playlist help.
On Android, iPhone, or iPad
- Open the video in the YouTube app and tap Save.
- If YouTube saves it to Watch Later or the last-used playlist, tap Change in the confirmation message.
- Select New playlist.
- Enter a name, choose the privacy setting, and tap Create.
On some Shorts, the route is More → Save to playlist → New playlist. iPhone and iPad labels may vary slightly from Android. Look for equivalent controls such as Save, Save to playlist, or More.

Create a playlist before choosing a video
Using the YouTube app
- Tap your profile picture and find the Playlists section. In newer interfaces, this is generally under the You tab.
- Tap New playlist.
- Select videos from your watch history.
- Tap Next, enter a title, choose the privacy setting, and tap Create.
You can add more videos later, so you do not need to have the full collection ready.
Using YouTube Studio on a computer
- Open YouTube Studio and sign in.
- Select Create in the upper-right corner, then choose New playlist.
- Enter a title and description.
- Choose the playlist visibility and video ordering.
- Select Add videos and add videos from search, a URL, or your library.
- Select Create.
This workflow is intended particularly for creators organizing uploaded videos. YouTube Studio’s documentation specifies a maximum playlist title length of 150 characters and a maximum description length of 5,000 characters.
Choose the right privacy setting

| Unlisted | Anyone with the link | It normally does not appear in search, recommendations, your channel, or subscriber feeds. |
| Private | Only you | It is not publicly discoverable or shareable through a normal playlist link. |
Unlisted is not private. Anyone who obtains an unlisted playlist link may be able to watch and forward it. Use unlisted for link-based sharing, such as a class resource or event collection. Use private for personal organization. YouTube also says that private videos and playlists may be reviewed for copyright, advertising suitability, and abuse prevention.

Add more videos
From any video watch page, select or tap Save and choose the playlist. If YouTube automatically selects another playlist, use Change in the confirmation message.
In desktop Studio, open the playlist or video details and use More → Add videos. You can add videos by searching, pasting a URL, or selecting videos from your library.

In the YouTube Studio mobile app, open Content, select the options menu beside a video, choose Edit, select Add to playlist, check the playlist, and tap Done followed by Save.

YouTube documents an exception for some videos or channels marked made for kids: adding may not work from a homepage, but adding the content from search results may work. Private, removed, unavailable, region-restricted, or otherwise restricted videos may also be unavailable to particular viewers or playlists. Supervised accounts can have additional feature restrictions.
Reorder or remove videos
Reorder videos
Open the playlist and drag videos up or down to change their saved order. You may also be able to change the order temporarily in the playlist panel on a video’s watch page. A temporary reorder affects the current viewing session; dragging items in playlist management changes the stored order.
YouTube states that manual reordering is unavailable for playlists containing only YouTube Shorts.
Remove a video
Open the video’s More menu in the playlist and select Remove from playlist or Remove from . In Studio, uncheck the playlist in the video’s playlist settings and save. A mobile playlist panel may also offer Hide; unless YouTube confirms removal, treat that as a temporary viewing action rather than permanent deletion.
Edit a playlist
Playlist owners can change the title, description, visibility, ordering, and videos. In YouTube Studio, open the playlist-management controls to edit these fields. Studio’s documented limits are 150 characters for the title and 5,000 characters for the description. The characters <, >, and the line-separator character u2028 are invalid there.

Share a playlist
- Open the playlist.
- Select or tap Share (on mobile, this may be inside the playlist’s More menu).
- Copy the link or choose an available sharing method.
Public playlists can be shared broadly. Unlisted playlists depend on possession of the link. Private playlists cannot be publicly shared. Also remember that playlist visibility does not override the privacy of individual videos: someone with a playlist link may still be unable to watch videos inside it that are private or otherwise restricted.

YouTube supports collaborative playlists. Open the playlist, select Share, choose Invite collaborators, and invite people using the available options. The playlist must be public or unlisted before invitations can be sent.

The owner has broader control over the playlist. YouTube can also show a collaborator’s profile picture beside videos they add.
Collaborative playlists may offer ranked voting with three settings: Everyone, Collaborators only, or Off. Voting is anonymous, and signed-in users can vote once per video. Availability and labels can vary by account and interface.

Find playlists later
Open the You tab and look under Playlists. Depending on the device or YouTube release, the same area may be labeled Library or appear in an account menu. This is also where you can find playlists you created and playlists you saved from other users.

- Open your account area or profile picture.
- Find the playlist under Playlists.
- Open its More menu.
- Choose Delete playlist and confirm.
Deleting a playlist does not delete the underlying videos. YouTube notes that the old playlist may continue to appear in viewers’ watch histories, and historical watch-time data may remain in broader analytics even though it is no longer attributed to the deleted playlist.
Playlist troubleshooting
“Create new playlist” is missing
Confirm that you are signed in, check inside the Save or More menu, and look for a differently labeled control. Supervised accounts and some restricted viewing contexts may not support every playlist feature.
“Save” sent the video to the wrong place
Use Change in the confirmation message and select the intended playlist. YouTube may default to Watch Later or the last playlist you used.
The playlist link does not work for someone else
Check whether the playlist is private, whether the complete unlisted URL was copied, and whether individual videos inside the playlist are private. The viewer may also need to sign in to an account that has access.
The instructions do not match my app
YouTube uses different interfaces for desktop, Android, iPhone and iPad, mobile web, and Studio. Look for the equivalent actions under Save, Save to playlist, More, You, Library, or Playlists.
