In pdfmake, set page size, orientation, and margins in a document definition; it handles pagination, and a callback can add content-dependent page breaks. The examples below use pdfmake’s documented 0.3 API; check the installed package’s matching documentation and Angular build compatibility before adopting them.
Choose the export path that matches your Angular content
Pagination is not just a matter of inserting a form-feed character. The export method determines whether you describe a document from data, render a page that already exists, or rely on a UI suite’s export component. Those approaches have different controls and trade-offs.
| Approach | Best fit | Page-break control | Where generation is documented |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdfmake | Reports, invoices, summaries, and other documents assembled from application data | Page settings in a document definition; dynamic rules with pageBreakBefore |
Browser and Node.js |
| html2pdf.js | An existing HTML view whose rendered layout should be converted to PDF | CSS break properties, selector rules, and a legacy break class | Browser-oriented HTML-to-PDF conversion |
| Kendo UI for Angular PDF Export | Teams using or evaluating Telerik’s commercial Angular component suite | Multipage export and manual breaks with forcePageBreak |
Angular component-suite feature |
The documentation for these products describes capabilities, not a head-to-head performance or output-quality comparison. Choose based on how your document is represented and how much control your team needs over layout.
When pdfmake is a good fit
Use pdfmake when your data already has meaningful structure—for example, a report with a title, sections, tables, totals, and footnotes. You define PDF nodes rather than asking a browser to reproduce a component’s CSS. Its project homepage describes the approach as: “Declare document structure and let pdfmake do the rest.” That is product copy from the official pdfmake homepage, not a guarantee that every document needs no layout work.

When HTML conversion is a better fit
If the goal is to export an existing view, html2pdf.js offers CSS and selector-driven page-break options. This avoids rebuilding the view as PDF-specific nodes, but means the rendered HTML and CSS are central to the output. Test the real content: a browser view that looks correct on screen does not, by itself, establish that its PDF pagination will be correct.
When to consider Kendo UI for Angular
Telerik’s documentation describes multipage PDF export and manual breaks using forcePageBreak. This is a relevant path when your application already uses, or is actively evaluating, Kendo UI for Angular. The cited documentation establishes the feature, not its price, licensing terms, or superiority to the libraries above. See Telerik’s PDF Export documentation for the component-specific API.
Create a multi-page PDF with pdfmake
In pdfmake, the document definition contains the content and page layout. The library paginates content that exceeds a page; for rules that depend on surrounding nodes, use pageBreakBefore. The following illustrates the documented 0.3 client-side API. It assumes pdfmake is already available as pdfMake in the component; the documentation cited here does not establish current Angular package installation steps or compatibility ranges, so verify how the package should be imported in your Angular version and build system.
Set the page size, orientation, and margins
For a straightforward report, start with ordinary content and explicit page settings. This example uses A4 portrait and 40-point margins. Change the values to match your actual document requirements.
const docDefinition = {
pageSize: 'A4',
pageOrientation: 'portrait',
pageMargins: [40, 50, 40, 50],
content: [
{ text: 'Quarterly report', style: 'title' },
{ text: 'Generated from Angular application data.' },
{ text: 'Revenue', style: 'sectionHeading' },
{
table: {
headerRows: 1,
widths: ['*', 'auto'],
body: [
['Period', 'Amount'],
['January', '$12,500'],
['February', '$14,200'],
['March', '$13,800']
]
}
}
],
styles: {
title: { fontSize: 20, bold: true, margin: [0, 0, 0, 14] },
sectionHeading: { fontSize: 14, bold: true, margin: [0, 18, 0, 8] }
}
};
pdfMake.createPdf(docDefinition).download('quarterly-report.pdf');
The call to download is the browser delivery step shown in the pdfmake client-side methods documentation. The same library also documents Node.js use. This does not mean browser generation is right for every application: the choice depends on where the data and workload belong, and whether the client should produce the file.
Build the content from Angular data
Construct the content array from the records you want to export. For example, map application data into table rows rather than rendering one fixed table:

const rows = [

...this.items.map(item => [item.name, String(item.quantity)])
];
const docDefinition = {
pageSize: 'A4',
pageMargins: [40, 50, 40, 50],
content: [
{ text: 'Inventory', style: 'title' },
{ table: { headerRows: 1, widths: ['*', 'auto'], body: rows } }
],
styles: { title: { fontSize: 20, bold: true, marginBottom: 14 } }
};
pdfMake.createPdf(docDefinition).download('inventory.pdf');
Make sure the values entering the document are valid for the node type you build. For example, turn numeric values into strings where a text cell expects text, and decide how empty or missing fields should appear instead of letting inconsistent data create a confusing report.
Add content-dependent page breaks
Use pageBreakBefore when a fixed break is not sufficient—for example, when a section heading should not be stranded at the bottom of a page. The 0.3 documentation describes a callback that can inspect following, next-page, and previous-page nodes. This example expresses the rule in terms of a heading style; confirm the callback signature and node metadata against the installed pdfmake version before using it:

{ text: 'Next section', style: 'sectionHeading' },
{ text: 'More section content goes here.' }
],
styles: {
title: { fontSize: 20, bold: true },
sectionHeading: { fontSize: 14, bold: true }
},
pageBreakBefore: function (currentNode, followingNodesOnPage) {
return currentNode.style === 'sectionHeading' &&
followingNodesOnPage.length === 0;
}
};
pdfMake.createPdf(docDefinition).download('report.pdf');
Use a rule like this only if its behavior matches your intended layout. The documented callback can also inspect nodes on the next page and previous-page nodes, which makes more contextual decisions possible. Avoid inserting breaks on every heading by default: that can create unnecessary whitespace or pages, especially when heading and following content would fit together.
Convert an existing HTML view with html2pdf.js
When the content already exists as HTML, html2pdf.js provides a different model: select or provide the HTML content, then configure page-break handling. Its documentation recognizes the CSS properties break-before, break-after, and break-inside, as well as selector-driven before, after, and avoid rules. It also recognizes the legacy html2pdf__page-break class. Consult the project’s documentation and examples for the current setup and configuration syntax.
Place breaks in the source markup
For content you control, CSS can express that a new section should begin on a new page or that a block should stay together where possible:
<section class="report-section">
<h2>Summary</h2>
<p>Summary content...</p>
</section>
<section class="report-section next-page">
<h2>Details</h2>
<p>Detailed content...</p>
</section>
.next-page {
break-before: page;
}
.report-section {
break-inside: avoid;
}
CSS pagination rules communicate intent; they do not guarantee that an oversized block can fit on one page. A long table, image, or section taller than the printable area still needs sensible splitting or sizing. Exercise selector-based break rules on the final DOM structure that the exporter receives, particularly if Angular conditionally renders sections.

Choose between HTML rendering and a PDF document definition
- Choose HTML conversion when the HTML view itself is the source of truth and preserving its structure matters.
- Choose pdfmake when layout should be expressed directly as a PDF document built from data, rather than inherited from a web view.
- Use the approach your team can validate and maintain; the cited docs do not provide a benchmark that makes one method universally faster or more accurate.
Browser or server: decide where generation belongs
pdfmake documents both browser-side and Node.js use, so a document definition can be used in either environment. Browser-side generation is a possible fit when the user’s browser already has the necessary data and should initiate a download. Server-side generation may be more appropriate when the PDF belongs to a backend workflow. The documentation establishes both execution environments; it does not prescribe which architecture fits a particular Angular application.
Before selecting an environment, consider where sensitive data is allowed to be processed, whether the PDF is produced on demand or as part of a backend job, and how the resulting file is delivered. The cited material does not establish workload-specific performance or resource limits, so measure your own documents if those constraints matter.
Validate pagination against real document content
Documentation establishes available controls, not the result for your app’s templates, fonts, assets, or installed package versions. Export representative documents before shipping, including cases that are likely to expose layout problems:
- A short document that should remain one page and a long document that must span several pages.
- Long tables, including rows near a page boundary and any content that should repeat as a header.
- Long headings, wrapped text, and sections near the bottom of a page.
- Images and fonts that your real users will need to see in the downloaded file.
- Optional or empty data, so the document remains coherent when sections have no records.
- Each page size, orientation, and margin combination supported by your application.
Review the PDF itself, not just the browser page or the fact that a download completed. Confirm that no content is clipped, overlaps a footer, or lands on an unintended extra page. No cross-library performance, reliability, or output-quality test is established by the cited documentation.

Troubleshoot common multi-page PDF problems
The PDF is only one page or later content is missing
First determine whether the source content actually reaches the exporter. For a structured document, inspect the generated pdfmake content and check whether long content is represented as PDF nodes rather than truncated before document creation. For an HTML export, check that Angular has rendered the complete target element before conversion. Then inspect page settings and break rules; a forced break or avoid rule may be interacting with the content.
A heading is alone at the bottom of a page
In pdfmake, use a content-aware pageBreakBefore rule when the heading’s position should depend on adjacent nodes. In html2pdf.js, use the documented break controls for the relevant element or selector. Validate with both short and long sections so a fix for one layout does not introduce needless blank space in another.

A table row or section splits awkwardly
Review whether the element can fit within the available printable height after margins. A block taller than the page cannot be kept together without moving or resizing content. For pdfmake, verify table structure and the intended header-row behavior; for HTML conversion, check CSS break handling and selector rules on the rendered markup.
Fonts or images are absent or look wrong
Confirm that the assets are available to the chosen export path and that the PDF’s font setup matches your installed version and build. The cited sources do not specify your Angular asset configuration, so there is no universal import path to prescribe here. Test production-built output as well as local development output.

The Angular build fails or an API behaves differently
The pdfmake example uses documentation for the 0.3 branch, while current package releases and Angular bundler compatibility are not established by that documentation snapshot. If the task is to capture a website page as a PDF rather than compose an application report, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-call screenshot API with PDF output. For example, a PDF request can use the documented endpoint and target URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d format=pdf -o page.pdf
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and PDF capture settings. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. It also has an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. That is useful for capturing a website, but it is not a replacement for building a data-driven PDF document from Angular application records.
