To create a LinkedIn carousel PDF, design a multi-page document, export it as a single PDF, and upload that file as a LinkedIn document post. On desktop, start a post, choose More → Add a document, select the PDF, enter a document title, add the post description, review the preview, and publish. LinkedIn’s document-post instructions set a maximum of 100 MB and 300 pages.

What LinkedIn calls a “carousel”

In everyday usage, a LinkedIn carousel is usually an organic document post that readers swipe through in the feed. It is one uploaded file containing multiple pages, not a series of separately uploaded images. PDF is an accepted document type, and LinkedIn recommends converting documents to PDF where possible for upload quality.

A paid carousel image ad is a different Campaign Manager format. It uses separate image cards, normally two to ten, and requires the relevant advertising account and Page permissions. The ad-card rules do not describe the organic PDF workflow.

Attribute Organic PDF document post Paid carousel image ad
Purpose Share a guide, explanation, case study or visual sequence in the feed Sponsored Content campaign with multiple image cards
Construction One multi-page document file Separate image cards
Publishing location LinkedIn post composer Campaign Manager
Limits and eligibility LinkedIn Help lists 100 MB and 300 pages for a document Campaign permissions and image-card specifications apply

  1. Cover: State the promise in a few words and identify the audience.
  2. Problem: Describe the situation the reader recognizes.
  3. Core steps: Use one concept, example or instruction per page.
  4. Evidence or example: Show a before-and-after, short scenario or practical demonstration.
  5. Action page: Tell readers what to do next and where to learn more.

Keep the narrative understandable when a reader lands on a middle page. Add a short heading to each page, use consistent numbering when order matters, and avoid paragraphs that require zooming. Feed previews are small, so check contrast, line length and type size at the approximate size members will see on a phone.

Choose a page shape and visual system

LinkedIn does not require a particular authoring application. A presentation editor or design application that exports a multi-page PDF is sufficient. Pick one page size for the whole document, establish heading and body styles, and reserve a predictable area for page numbers or a source note. Keep decorative elements away from text and links.

Write for swiping, not for printing

  • Put the takeaway in the heading instead of hiding it in a dense paragraph.
  • Use short lists, diagrams and examples where they replace exposition.
  • Repeat key visual cues, such as colors or labels, so the sequence feels connected.
  • Use descriptive link text; do not rely on a bare URL as the only explanation.

Export and prepare the PDF

  1. Export the complete page sequence as one PDF.
  2. Flatten or merge the PDF if it contains multiple layers. LinkedIn’s preparation guidance specifically calls for flattening or merging layered PDFs.
  3. Normalize the page dimensions. Mixed page sizes can produce an inconsistent swipe experience, and LinkedIn advises making pages the same size.
  4. Open the exported file in a PDF viewer and inspect every page at normal zoom and at a small preview size.
  5. Activate every hyperlink. Confirm that links use secure HTTPS destinations and that the visible text matches the destination.
  6. Check the file properties: it must be no larger than 100 MB and no longer than 300 pages for an organic document post.

Video and other animations are not supported inside LinkedIn document uploads; LinkedIn says they appear as static images. Export a still frame or rewrite the content for a static page instead of assuming an embedded animation will play.

Upload a LinkedIn carousel PDF on desktop

  1. From LinkedIn’s home page, start a new post.
  2. Select More, then choose Add a document.
  3. Choose the single PDF file from your computer. An organic document post accepts one document.
  4. Enter a document title. This labels the uploaded file and is separate from the post text.
  5. Write the post description. Use it for context, a concise hook, hashtags or relevant @mentions.
  6. Review the generated page preview. Swipe through it, check that the first page is the intended cover, and verify that text, links and page order survived export.
  7. Publish the post when the preview and description are correct.

The document title and the post description serve different purposes: the title identifies the file, while the description introduces it in the feed. Members who can view the post can download the document as a PDF.

Upload from the LinkedIn mobile app

  1. Tap Post.
  2. Tap More, then select Document.
  3. Select one PDF from your device.
  4. Add the document title, then write the separate post description.
  5. Review the preview and publish.

Mobile labels and their exact placement can change with app updates. If the options are not visible, update the app and look for the document choice under the post composer’s additional media options.

Proofread before publishing

  • Read every page in order and then inspect a randomly selected middle page.
  • Check names, numbers, dates, spelling and punctuation at the size used in the feed.
  • Test every hyperlink in the exported PDF, not only in the authoring application.
  • Confirm all pages share the intended dimensions and orientation.
  • Verify the file is within 100 MB and 300 pages.
  • Make sure the document title is accurate and the post description does not promise content missing from the file.
  • Check the first-page thumbnail for a clear title and sufficient contrast.

What happens if you need to change the file?

LinkedIn allows you to edit the document title and the post description after publishing, but the uploaded document itself cannot be edited in the existing post. To correct or replace the PDF, remove the post and publish a new one with the corrected file. This is why a page-by-page proofread and hyperlink check belong before publication.

Common problems and fixes

The Add a document option is missing

Make sure you started a normal post rather than an advertising workflow. On desktop, open More in the post composer; on mobile, open More after tapping Post. App labels can move after updates, so update the app and try again.

The upload is rejected for size or length

Check both dimensions: LinkedIn Help lists a ceiling of 100 MB and 300 pages for an organic document post. Remove unnecessary high-resolution images, export with sensible PDF compression, split an overlong editorial project into separate posts, or reduce pages while preserving readability.

Pages look inconsistent

Mixed page dimensions or orientations commonly cause this. Return to the source document, set one page size and orientation for every page, export again, and inspect the new PDF rather than relying on the source preview.

Links do not work

Some exports preserve visual text but lose the hyperlink annotation. Test links in the final PDF viewer, use HTTPS destinations, and re-export with hyperlinks enabled. If a link is essential, also spell out the destination or a short memorable path in the post description.

An animation or video is blank

Document uploads do not play embedded video or animation; LinkedIn renders such content as static images. Replace it with a sequence of still pages, a diagram, or a link to the moving version outside the document.

The wrong version was published

The file cannot be swapped inside an existing post. Remove the post, confirm the corrected PDF’s filename and preview, and publish a replacement. Edit the title or description only when the PDF itself is already correct.

Performance, accessibility and file-size trade-offs

LinkedIn does not publish a guaranteed reach or engagement figure for document posts, so design for comprehension rather than a promised performance outcome. A smaller PDF generally uploads and downloads more easily, but aggressive image compression can make screenshots and small text unreadable. Compress large images, remove unused layers by flattening the file, and then inspect fine details at feed-preview size.

Use meaningful headings, strong color contrast and a logical reading order. Do not communicate essential information by color alone. Keep text selectable when your export workflow permits it, but always verify that flattening has not removed hyperlinks or made text illegible.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need clean screenshots of web pages to include in the PDF, ScreenshotNeo can capture them through one request instead of maintaining a browser automation stack. It accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients, with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools. Its API supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets, arbitrary viewports, retina scale, PDF paper sizes and margins, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage data and an OpenAPI specification.
