In most WooCommerce stores, the customer login page is the My Account page—not a separate page you need to build. Logged-out visitors see the login form there, and registration can appear alongside it when enabled. Start by checking the page assignment and account settings; then customize the design or add an extension only if the standard experience does not meet your needs.
How the WooCommerce login page works
WooCommerce uses its My Account page as the customer account area. While logged out, a visitor sees the login form; if account creation is enabled, the page can also offer registration. After signing in, customers use that same page to access orders, downloads, addresses, payment methods, account details, and logout. See WooCommerce’s page documentation.
This means a custom login page can mean several different things: styling the existing page, adding instructions above the form, or creating separate login and registration URLs. Choose the simplest approach that satisfies the store’s needs.
Set up the standard My Account login
- Check the page assignment. In WordPress Admin, open WooCommerce > Settings and confirm that the store’s My Account page is assigned in the page setup. If the page is missing or misassigned, correct that before styling it.
- Choose account and checkout behavior. Open WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts & Privacy. Review whether customers may create accounts on the My Account page and during checkout, along with guest checkout and checkout login options. The available controls are described in WooCommerce’s settings documentation and Accounts & Privacy documentation. Admin labels may differ between WooCommerce versions.
- Test as a logged-out visitor. Visit the My Account page in a private browser window or after logging out. Confirm the login form appears and, if enabled, that registration is available. Also check the page after signing in to ensure customers reach the expected account tools.
Customize the page’s appearance
Use the active theme first
For color, spacing, typography, and page layout, begin with your active theme’s page or template controls. The WooCommerce form appears within the My Account page, so test changes on that page at desktop and mobile widths. A theme or template change can affect the account area as well as the logged-out form.

Add a message above the login and registration forms
To add a short instruction or explanation above the form, WooCommerce documents the woocommerce_before_customer_login_form action. Its developer guide shows how to use the hook and where to place the code: Adding a message above the login/register form.
Place custom code in a child theme’s functions.php file or use a code snippets plugin; do not add it directly to the parent theme’s functions.php, because a theme update can wipe out those changes. After adding a snippet, check the page while logged out and logged in, and remove or disable the snippet if it causes an error or conflicts with the theme.

When to use separate login and registration pages
WooCommerce’s default account page combines login and registration when registration is enabled. If you need distinct URLs or additional account-authentication features, the optional Enhanced Customer Accounts extension documents a Modern Login experience. That is an extension-specific option, not the default behavior of the core My Account page. Review the extension’s documentation and confirm its availability and settings for the version installed on your store before relying on a particular feature.

If you use the extension’s endpoint settings to change login or account URL slugs, choose unique values. Duplicate slugs can conflict with other routes. If an account route returns a 404 after a change, go to Settings > Permalinks and save the settings to refresh WordPress rewrite rules. If Google Login is configured, update its redirect URI when the authentication endpoint changes. The extension’s documentation covers these endpoint considerations.
