Clubhouse now calls its persistent communities Houses. To create one, open the Clubhouse mobile app, go to your profile, tap All Houses, choose + New House, enter a name, and tap Create My House. You can then invite members, choose who may join, assign admins or leaders, and schedule recurring rooms.
This guide reflects Clubhouse’s current help-center terminology and instructions. Older tutorials may still say “Club” and show navigation that no longer matches the app.
What happened to Clubhouse Clubs?
Clubhouse currently documents this feature as a House, an ongoing community for members, live conversations, scheduled rooms, and text chats. The interface can vary by app version, account, geography, or rollout, but the current documented path is Profile → All Houses → + New House.
A House is different from a room:

If you only need a one-time panel or Q&A, starting a room may be simpler. Create a House when you want recurring discussions, a recognizable community identity, membership controls, or shared moderation rules.

What you need before creating a House
- The Clubhouse mobile app on iPhone or Android. Download information is available at Clubhouse’s official site.
- A Clubhouse account created with a mobile phone number. VoIP numbers may not work reliably.
- A verified email address is recommended for account recovery if you change phones or devices. See Clubhouse’s getting-started guidance.
- An account in good standing. Clubhouse says accounts flagged for Community Guidelines violations may be unable to create a House.
- A name without special characters.
Clubhouse’s current help page lists a limit of up to five Houses per week and a capacity of up to 25,000 members. Treat both figures as current official limits rather than permanent guarantees, because product rules can change.
Clubhouse does not currently document a universal requirement for a particular number of followers, rooms, speaking hours, or Karma to create an ordinary House.
How to create a House on Clubhouse
- Open your profile. In the Clubhouse app, tap your profile picture or avatar, usually in the upper-right area.
- Open the Houses area. Tap All Houses. If you see only Start a Room, you are in the room launcher rather than the Houses section; return to your profile.
- Start a new House. Tap + New House.
- Enter a name. Use a specific, durable name that explains the community’s subject. Clubhouse says House names cannot contain special characters. Avoid wording that falsely suggests official Clubhouse affiliation.
- Create it. Tap Create My House. You should be taken to the new House’s setup or home screen.
- Add initial members. When prompted, select relevant people from your contacts. Do not invite contacts indiscriminately; begin with people who fit the purpose and are likely to participate.
- Write the description and rules. Explain who the House is for, what members discuss, when you meet, and what conduct is expected.
- Configure access and permissions. Choose the membership model, decide whether members may invite others, and assign trusted admins or leaders.
- Create the first activity. Schedule a launch room or recurring discussion so the House immediately has a reason to exist.
Write a useful House description
A description is more than a label. Clubhouse recommends using it to explain the House’s purpose, rules, and code of conduct.

To edit it, Clubhouse’s documented path is:
- Tap your profile picture.
- Select the House.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Description.
- Enter or edit the text.
- Tap Save.
A practical starting point is:
A community for [who belongs here] to discuss [specific subject]. We meet [schedule]. Please [key behavior rule]. No harassment, spam, impersonation, or unsolicited promotion.
Choose who can join
Clubhouse documents three main membership models. The choice affects discoverability, privacy, invitations, and moderation workload.

Private membership settings can have an important trade-off: Clubhouse says private Houses may not be visible on member profiles or able to host public rooms. Choose privacy based on whether the House is meant to be a public discovery funnel, a curated professional community, or a private group.

Invite members and share the House link
During creation, Clubhouse prompts you to select people from your contacts. You can invite more people later from the House page:

- Open the House.
- Tap the person icon.
- Tap the + beside the people you want to invite.
You can also share a link:
- From a House room, tap Share, then Copy Link.
- From the House page, tap the person icon, then choose Copy Link.
A link does not necessarily provide instant access. The House’s membership model still determines whether someone joins immediately, enters an approval process, or needs an invitation.
Control whether members can invite others
Allowing member invitations can help a community grow organically, but it can also bring irrelevant members, spam, and additional moderation work. For a new House, founder-controlled or approval-based invitations are usually easier to manage until the community’s norms are established.
Clubhouse’s documented path for managing a member’s invitation permission is:
- Open the House.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Open House settings.
- Tap Members.
- Enable the member toggle for the selected person.
- Select Give one-time invites.
- Choose 1, 5, or 10 invites.
Under Who can join, you can turn member invitations off. Clubhouse says that disabling this permission revokes allocated member invitations, although the founder can still grant one-time invitations manually.

Appoint dependable admins if the House matters operationally. If the founder becomes inactive, there is no documented ownership-transfer route.
Set up the House for regular activity
Clubhouse specifically recommends setting up a weekly room. A practical launch plan includes:
- A short launch room explaining the House’s purpose.
- A recurring weekly or monthly discussion.
- A named host and backup moderator.
- A consistent time zone and start time.
- A short agenda and a way for members to submit questions.
- A feedback process for improving topics and moderation.
Set the rules before sharing the link widely. Decide who can start rooms, who can speak or moderate, whether the Lounge is enabled, and who can send messages. Clubhouse’s House moderation tools also allow admins to receive notifications when members report users in the House.
Privacy, replays, and moderation
State your conduct expectations clearly: no harassment, threats, hate, impersonation, spam, or unsolicited promotion. Tell members how to report problems and how moderators will handle disruptive behavior.
Be clear about recording. Clubhouse may record live rooms for safety and policy investigations, and open rooms may be transcribed for personalization. In Houses, the room creator can enable Replays; those recordings may be available to other Clubhouse users and potentially outside Clubhouse. Do not promise that every conversation is private or ephemeral. Explain replay settings before members share sensitive information. See Clubhouse’s privacy and replay FAQ.
Why can’t I create a House?
Try these checks in order:
- Update the app. Install the latest Clubhouse version from the App Store or Google Play.
- Use the mobile app. The documented creation flow is in the iPhone or Android app, not the website.
- Open the correct area. Go to your profile, tap All Houses, and look for + New House. Do not use the room launcher.
- Check account standing. Clubhouse says an account flagged for Community Guidelines violations may be unable to create a House.
- Restart the app. Close and reopen Clubhouse, then check the profile and Houses area again.
- Confirm you are using the intended account. A different phone number or account can show a different House list and eligibility.
- Contact Clubhouse support. Do this if the account appears eligible but the creation control remains missing.
Do not assume that a specific Karma score, follower count, number of rooms, or speaking time is required for ordinary House creation unless Clubhouse states that requirement in the current app or help center.

Common House problems
The House does not appear after I created it
Check your profile and All Houses, then look at Explore or search surfaces. Confirm that you are viewing the same account and that the House was not deleted.

Check that the invitation went to the correct phone number or Clubhouse account. The House may require approval, the link may be stale, or the invitee may not have completed signup. Invite the person again from the House’s member screen or copy a fresh House link.
Members are inviting too many people
Open House settings → Who can join and disable member invitations. Clubhouse says allocated member invitations may be revoked when this permission is turned off.
Can you transfer or delete a House?
You cannot transfer founder status. Appoint admins and leaders instead. Admins can handle most routine management but cannot remove the founder or delete the House.
Only the founder can delete the House. The documented path is:
- Open the House.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Delete the House.
- Confirm the action.
- Enter the House name.
Clubhouse describes deletion as permanent, with no recovery route. If you are only taking a break, change membership access, stop scheduling rooms, or reduce member permissions instead of deleting the House.

Special case: Follower Houses
Clubhouse also documents a separate Follower House for users with audiences of 1,000 or more. These Houses are open to all Clubhouse users after creation, while the creator controls who can create chats and who can respond. This is an audience feature, not a requirement for creating an ordinary House.

Yes. Creating a House is a native Clubhouse activity and does not require Clubhouse Plus or a third-party service.
