If you need selectable categories, site-controlled styling, or automatic conversions, install a unit-converter plugin and place its shortcode in your page or post.
Choose between an embed and a plugin

Add a simple converter with an HTML embed
The WPBeginner workflow uses an embeddable metric-to-imperial converter. It is suited to a straightforward calculator rather than a highly customized tool.
- Find an embed provider that offers a metric-to-imperial converter and copy its current HTML or embed code.
- In WordPress, open the widget-ready area where the converter should appear. Depending on your theme, this may be a sidebar, footer, or another widget area.
- Add a Custom HTML block and paste the provider’s code into it.
- Save or update the widget area, then open the public page to confirm that the converter loads and is usable.
Theme labels and available widget areas vary. If you use a block theme without the expected widget interface, use a plugin-based method instead. An embed can also stop working if its provider changes or removes the code, so review the live page after theme, WordPress, or provider changes.
Use a shortcode plugin for more control
Shortcode plugins let you keep the converter inside WordPress while choosing supported categories and, in some cases, styles and templates. Install only after checking the plugin’s current directory page for compatibility, update history, support activity, and reviews.

Best Metric Converter
The WordPress.org listing describes a configurable converter inserted with [best_metric_converter]. Its settings let the site owner choose categories and control styles. The listing values surfaced for this article reported version 1.0.0, fewer than 10 active installations, WordPress 5.8 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, and testing up to WordPress 7.0.5. Those figures can change, and the listing reported no reviews at that time; verify the current values before installing.
Universal Unit Converter
Universal Unit Converter documents the shortcode [AWL_converter]. Its listing describes eight categories, seven templates, and results that update as visitors type. The surfaced listing reported version 1.2.0, 20+ active installations, WordPress 5.0 or newer, PHP 7.0 or newer, and testing up to WordPress 7.0.2. These are directory-listing values, not independent adoption or performance measurements, and should be rechecked.

Install and place the shortcode
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for the selected converter, inspect its author, last update, requirements, compatibility notice, and feedback, then install and activate it.
- Open the plugin’s settings and enable the unit categories and appearance options your readers need.
- Edit the target page or post and add a Shortcode block. Enter the plugin’s documented shortcode, such as
[best_metric_converter]or[AWL_converter], without changing its spelling. - Publish or update the page, then test the public URL rather than relying only on the editor preview.
How to compare plugins before installing
- Categories: Confirm that the converter includes the measurements your audience uses, such as length, weight, temperature, or volume.
- Placement: Check whether the shortcode works in a page, post, sidebar, footer, or another location you plan to use.
- Appearance: Compare available styles, templates, labels, and controls with your theme.
- Requirements: Match the plugin’s stated WordPress and PHP minimums to your hosting environment.
- Maintenance signals: Review update recency, compatibility notes, support responses, and user feedback. Active-installation counts are volatile and are not proof that a converter works on your site.
Shortcodes, blocks, and editor compatibility
WordPress developer documentation describes a shortcode transform type in the block editor. That is editor API support, not a guarantee that every plugin provides a native block or that its shortcode behaves identically in every theme, widget area, template, or editing surface. Use the plugin’s documented placement method and verify the rendered page on your actual site.

- Convert representative values in both directions, including a decimal and a zero or small value where applicable.
- Switch every enabled unit category and confirm that the result and unit labels change correctly.
- Type into each field to check whether automatic updates work as advertised.
- Test keyboard focus, readable labels, and the layout at a narrow mobile width.
- Check the page while logged out or in a private window so caching and permissions do not hide problems.
- Temporarily check for conflicts with your theme, optimization tools, JavaScript, or other form plugins if controls fail or the layout breaks.
The plugin directory descriptions are feature claims from their respective listings, not independent hands-on performance tests. Treat your published-page check as the final compatibility gate.

Keep the unit symbol next to its number with consistent spacing and typography. For example, write “10 kg” and “6.2 mi” rather than allowing labels to run into the value. Follow your site’s established style and check the rendered result on desktop and mobile.
