You do not need a physical printer or a separate converter app.
Save an HTML webpage as a PDF in Chrome
- Open the HTML page in Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap the three-dot More menu in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Print from the sharing options. If it is not immediately visible, scroll through the available actions.
- Open the printer selector and choose Save as PDF.
- Tap the save-location control, select a folder on the device or an available storage provider, and confirm the filename.
- Tap Print. Chrome writes the PDF to the location you selected.
Chrome’s Android help describes the final action as tapping “Save as PDF” in the print preview. The labels and their position can vary with Chrome and Android versions, device manufacturers, and installed print services, but the documented route is specifically Chrome’s Android interface. Other browsers may expose different menus.
Check the result
Open the saved file with your PDF viewer and inspect page breaks, images, fonts, links, and tables. Print preview is the best place to catch an unwanted blank page or a clipped section before saving. A webpage that depends on a login, scripts, live data, or unusual responsive styling may not reproduce exactly as it appears while browsing, so verify important documents after saving.
When Chrome’s print route is the right choice
- Use it for: ordinary public webpages, receipts, articles, instructions, and pages you can already open in Chrome.
- No extra hardware: “Print” is the name of Android’s document-output interface; selecting Save as PDF saves a file instead of sending it to a printer.
- No dedicated converter is required: the conversion is supplied by Chrome and Android’s print framework.
If the page will not load in Chrome, is blocked behind authentication, or requires repeatable automated conversion, use a developer workflow instead.

Convert HTML to PDF inside an Android app with WebView
Android’s WebView printing APIs are intended for developers building an app. Android 4.4 (API level 19) introduced HTML printing support. The general sequence is to create a WebView, load an online URL or HTML content, wait until loading finishes, create a print adapter, and submit a print job to Android’s print services.
Load an HTML string
For HTML held in memory, Android’s documentation demonstrates loadDataWithBaseURL. Supplying a base URL helps relative images, stylesheets, and links resolve correctly.

Load a URL
Replace loadDataWithBaseURL with webView.loadUrl("https://example.com/page"). Request the URL only after configuring the WebView and its client. For pages that fetch content asynchronously, onPageFinished signals that the initial load completed, not that every application script or network request has settled. Your app may need its own readiness condition before starting the print job.

Use a dedicated off-screen WebView
The WebView API reference says the print adapter converts WebView contents into a PDF stream and recommends a dedicated WebView that is not being drawn during conversion. Do not reuse the visible, interactive WebView if the user might navigate or change it while printing. Destroy the dedicated instance after the print lifecycle has completed to avoid leaking an Activity or WebView resources.
Permissions and network access
Loading an HTTP or HTTPS page requires the normal Android internet permission:

Third-party Android HTML-to-PDF SDKs
A commercial SDK is another developer option when you need a packaged conversion API, additional rendering controls, or support beyond the basic print framework. Apryse documents Android HTML-to-PDF support for Android API 19 and newer. Its documentation says the SDK accepts HTTP/HTTPS URLs, HTML strings, and content loadable in a WebView. Local HTML does not require internet access; HTTP/HTTPS conversion does.

Common problems and fixes
Print is missing from Share
Expand or scroll the Android share sheet and look for Print. Menu availability depends on Chrome, Android, and installed print-service configuration. Updating Chrome and Android may change labels, but do not assume another browser exposes the same route.
The PDF has missing images or styling
Confirm that the page finished loading before printing. Remote assets can be blocked, require authentication, or depend on JavaScript. For app code, verify the base URL passed to loadDataWithBaseURL, keep required resources available offline when possible, and delay printing until your own page-ready condition is true.
The layout is clipped or paginated badly
Inspect print preview, then the saved PDF. Responsive pages can choose a print layout different from the screen layout. Simplify print CSS where you control the HTML, avoid relying on content that appears only after a user gesture, and test long tables and images across the page boundaries that matter to you.

The app crashes or behaves inconsistently while printing
Use the named createPrintDocumentAdapter overload, keep a dedicated off-screen WebView for conversion, and avoid drawing or navigating that WebView during the print operation. Release it after the print job is finished. Also test lifecycle events such as rotation and Activity recreation.
A remote URL works in Chrome but not in the app
Check the INTERNET permission, TLS and redirects, cookies, authentication, and WebView settings. Chrome’s logged-in session is not automatically your app’s session. A page may also detect WebView or require browser capabilities your implementation has not enabled.
