Fastest method: open the page in your browser, open the print dialog (Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac), choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF, check the preview, and save. Android browsers use Share or the menu followed by Print; Safari on iPhone uses Share, Markup, and Save File To.
This guide gives exact steps for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Android, and iPhone, then shows how to fix clipped pages, missing backgrounds, and unreadable layouts. A browser PDF is a print rendering, not a guaranteed interactive or pixel-identical copy.
Convert a website to PDF on a desktop
Google Chrome (Windows, Linux, and Mac)
- Open the webpage in Chrome and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac.
- In the preview, set the destination to Save as PDF. The exact destination list can vary with your operating system.
- Set layout, paper size, margins, scale, pages, and background graphics as needed.
- Click Save, choose a folder and filename, and confirm.
Chrome also documents a Google Drive workflow. You can first save the PDF and upload it to Drive, or select a configured Save to Google Drive destination. Drive is optional storage; it is not required to create the PDF.
Mozilla Firefox (Windows, Linux, and Mac)
- Open the page, select the application menu button, and choose Print….
- In the destination drop-down, select Save to PDF.
- Choose orientation, page range, paper size, scale, margins, headers and footers, and whether backgrounds print.
- If the option is offered, choose Simplified under Format for a text-focused version. Simplified format cannot be combined with printed backgrounds.
- Review the preview and save the file.
Firefox warns that webpages can arrange themselves differently on paper than on screen. Expect possible changes in spacing, pagination, and visual elements.

Microsoft Edge (Windows and macOS)
- Open the webpage.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, or choose Settings and more > Print.
- Select the PDF destination presented by your system print dialog and save.
- Open More settings and enable Background graphics when the preview needs colors, images, or design backgrounds.
For an article-like page, try Immersive Reader before printing. Microsoft notes that Immersive Reader is not available on every website. To capture only part of a page, select the text or images, right-click the selection, and choose Print.
Save a website as PDF on Android
Chrome for Android
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share, and choose Print.
- In print preview, select Save as PDF.
- Choose a storage location and tap Print to save the PDF.
Firefox for Android
- Open the page and tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap the Share icon, then Save as PDF.
- Tap Download in the prompt.
- Find the document in Downloads, or open it from the download-completed notification.
Mozilla’s Android instructions were updated on May 3, 2023, so button labels may differ in a newer app release.
Save a webpage as PDF on iPhone
Safari
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu and then Share. Depending on your tab layout, Share may appear directly.
- Choose Markup when it appears in the share actions.
- Tap Done, select Save File To, name the PDF, and choose a folder in Files.
Apple documents this flow in its iOS 27 guide. iOS versions and Safari layouts can place the same actions in slightly different positions.
Make the exported PDF readable
Use the preview as a quality check
Before saving, inspect the first page, a middle page, and the final page. Confirm that headings, images, tables, links, and page breaks are present. A successful save only proves that a file was written; it does not prove that the layout is useful.

Choose orientation and paper size
Use portrait for normal articles and narrow pages. Switch to landscape for wide tables, dashboards, or code blocks. If a table still runs off the page, reduce scale or increase the paper size rather than accepting clipped columns.
Adjust scale, margins, and page range
Lower the scale when the right edge is cut off; increase it when text is too small only after confirming that the page is not being shrunk by an oversized margin. Set a page range when you need only selected chapters or when a long page contains unrelated navigation.
Decide whether to print backgrounds
Background graphics preserve colored sections, diagrams, and branded callouts but can make a file larger and less ink-friendly. Turn them off for a plain reading copy. Edge exposes this under More settings > Background graphics; Firefox provides a background control in its print options.
Remove navigation and advertising clutter
Firefox’s Simplified format, when available, creates a text-focused printout but cannot be combined with printed backgrounds. Edge’s Immersive Reader can provide a similar cleaner starting point, although availability depends on the site. If you need just one excerpt, Edge’s selected-content printing avoids exporting the entire page.

What a browser PDF does—and does not—preserve
- It preserves a static print rendering of the loaded page, not live forms, video playback, menus, or other interactions.
- Responsive CSS can choose a paper layout different from the screen layout.
- Lazy-loaded images, content behind a consent dialog, and sections that appear only after scrolling may be absent unless they loaded before printing.
- Fonts, advertisements, and third-party widgets can change pagination between captures.
For that reason, do not promise pixel-perfect output or identical pagination. If the first file is poor, return to the preview and try orientation, scale, margins, background graphics, a simplified reading view, or a narrower page range.

Troubleshooting common conversion problems
The PDF is blank or missing the main content
Wait for the page to finish loading, dismiss consent dialogs, and scroll through lazy-loaded sections before opening print preview. For a scripted capture, wait for a selector or network idle and inspect the page verdict headers.
Images or colors are missing
Enable background graphics, check that images appear in the preview, and retry after the page finishes loading. A simplified print mode intentionally removes some visual styling.
Text is cut off on the right
Use landscape, reduce scale, narrow the page range, or increase paper size. Wide tables often need landscape rather than smaller text.

Only part of a long page appears
Confirm that full-page output is selected where your browser or capture tool offers it, and allow lazy images to load. A browser print preview can paginate a page differently from its screen view.
The phone saved the file but you cannot find it
On Firefox for Android, check Downloads. On iPhone, return to the Files location selected under Save File To. On Android Chrome, review the location chosen in the Save as PDF dialog.
Cost, privacy, and reliability considerations
For an occasional personal PDF, built-in browser printing is free and requires no separate service. Check the destination before saving if the page contains private data, because a cloud capture API sends the URL and requested content to that service. For recurring jobs, control the viewport, waits, headers, cookies, and caching explicitly; record the resulting file and any failure status so a timeout is not mistaken for a valid document.
