To convert a webpage URL to a PDF, open the page in a browser, choose Print, select Save to PDF (or Save as PDF), check the preview, and save the file. The exact labels differ by browser and device. First determine whether your URL is a normal webpage or already points to a PDF: download an existing PDF directly instead of printing the page that links to it.
Decide what your URL contains
A webpage that must be rendered
If the address opens an HTML webpage, the browser must lay it out for printing. The result is a print rendering, so it can differ from the live page: responsive elements may move, interactive controls may disappear, and backgrounds or images may be omitted unless you enable them.
An existing PDF file
If the address ends in a PDF or opens a PDF viewer, download that file rather than printing the surrounding webpage. In Chrome on a computer, right-click the PDF link and choose Save Link As, then select a folder and save it: Google Chrome Help.
Convert a URL to PDF on a desktop
- Open the target URL in Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or another desktop browser. Wait until the content and images you need have loaded.
- Open the browser’s Print command. In Microsoft Edge, use the menu’s Print command or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac, as documented by Microsoft: Print in Microsoft Edge.
- In the destination or printer selector, choose Save to PDF or Save as PDF. Mozilla’s Firefox instructions specifically say to select Save to PDF in the Destination drop-down: Firefox Help.
- Review the preview before saving. Set the page range, orientation (portrait or landscape), paper size, and margins. Turn headers and footers off if you do not want the URL, title, date, or page numbers. Enable Background graphics when the design, colored panels, or background images are important.
- Choose a known folder, enter a descriptive filename such as
project-specification-2026-09-30.pdf, and save. Open the file afterward to check the first, middle, and last pages.
Microsoft Edge options
Edge’s print dialog supports page selection, orientation, headers and footers, and background graphics. If a page is cluttered, try Immersive Reader first and print the simplified view; Microsoft notes that Immersive Reader is not available for every site. Edge can also print only selected content on supported pages. If the PDF looks different from the screen, enabling background graphics is one of Microsoft’s recommended checks.

Firefox and other desktop browsers
Firefox exposes the same essential sequence—open Print, choose Save to PDF, inspect the preview, and save. Chrome, Safari, and Chromium-based browsers use similar system or browser dialogs, but option names and the location of advanced settings vary by operating system. Do not assume that a setting available in Edge appears in every browser.
Save a webpage as a PDF on iPhone
Apple’s documented Safari flow is:
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the page menu and then Share. Depending on Safari’s top- or bottom-tabs layout, the Share control may be shown directly.
- Choose Markup.
- Tap Done, then choose Save File To.
- Select a folder, change the filename if needed, and tap Save.

Save a webpage as a PDF on Android
Firefox for Android
Mozilla’s Firefox-specific instructions are:
- Open the page in Firefox for Android.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Share.
- Select Save as PDF.
- Tap Download. Mozilla says the file is saved in the device’s Downloads folder and can also be opened from Firefox’s Downloads list.
See Mozilla’s Firefox for Android instructions. Chrome and other Android browsers may expose a different menu or may rely on the Android share sheet, so use the browser’s own help if these labels are absent.

Make the PDF readable and complete
Choose a suitable layout
- Use portrait for ordinary articles and forms; use landscape for wide tables, dashboards, or code.
- Set a page range when you need only selected pages. This avoids creating a long file with navigation, comments, or unrelated sections.
- Reduce or increase margins when text is clipped or excessive white space appears.
- Enable background graphics for color-coded diagrams and branded layouts, but expect larger files.
- Disable headers and footers when the browser adds unwanted URLs or dates.
Handle long or dynamic pages
Let lazy-loaded images and embedded content finish loading before opening Print. Scroll through the page first if images appear only as you reach them. A print preview is the reliable test: if an image or section is missing there, it will not appear in the PDF. Interactive maps, videos, login-only content, and hover states generally become static or unavailable in a PDF.
Use a clutter-free version
Reader or simplified modes can remove navigation and advertising, but they may also remove tables, sidebars, or essential graphics. Compare the simplified preview with the original before saving. Edge’s Immersive Reader is a site-dependent option, not a universal conversion feature.
When the browser method fails
Blank pages or missing content
Check that the page is fully loaded and that you are signed in when the content requires an account. Try refreshing, waiting for images, or printing from a reader view. A page that blocks automated or print rendering may need its own export function.

Text or images are cut off
Switch orientation, reduce margins, or choose a larger paper size. For wide tables, landscape is usually preferable. Recheck the preview after every change.

Enable Background graphics in the print settings. Some browsers or operating systems do not offer this control, and CSS can intentionally suppress backgrounds for printing.
Only part of the page prints
Inspect the selected page range and any browser selection-print option. Clear an accidental text selection, choose all pages, and preview again.

Fonts, scripts, or sign-in content are different
PDF output reflects the rendered, permitted view. Fonts that are unavailable locally may be substituted; scripts that require interaction may not run in print; content behind a session may disappear when the session expires. Save while the correct account and permissions are active.
Download versus convert: the security and privacy choice
For a URL that already serves a PDF, direct download preserves the publisher’s file and avoids a second rendering step. For an HTML page, browser printing keeps the conversion local and normally requires no additional software. - Occasional desktop conversion: use the browser print dialog; it is local and free.

Why is my PDF different from the webpage?
