The dependable first choice is your browser’s print preview. Open the page, let all required content load, press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+P (Mac), choose Save as PDF, adjust the preview, and inspect the finished file. If the print layout drops content or you need a visual one-page capture, use a full-page capture tool and verify its output.
Use print preview first
Print-to-PDF usually produces selectable, searchable text and a practical multi-page document. It is different from taking a very tall screenshot: the browser lays out content for paper, while a capture tool records the rendered page.
Chrome on Windows, Linux, and Mac
- Open the webpage and wait for the sections, images, tables, and other content you need to finish loading.
- For pages that load content while you scroll, move through the page once. Confirm that the sections you need are actually present before printing.
- Open the print dialog with File > Print, Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- In the destination/printer list, select Save as PDF.
- Choose paper size, portrait or landscape orientation, scale, margins, and whether headers and footers should appear. Names and available controls vary by Chrome version.
- Read the preview from beginning to end. Look for missing sections, clipped columns, tiny text, broken page breaks, and absent backgrounds.
- Click Save, choose a filename and folder, then open the PDF in a separate viewer.
Chrome on Android
- Open the page and allow its required content to load.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share, and choose Print.
- Select Save as PDF as the print destination when it is offered.
- Set paper size, orientation, and other available options, inspect the preview, and save the file.
Firefox
- Open the page and wait for dynamic sections to load.
- Open Firefox’s print dialog.
- Use the destination dropdown and choose Save to PDF.
- Adjust the available paper, orientation, scale, margin, and header/footer settings, then check the preview before saving.
Make a long page fit cleanly
There is no universal setting that fixes every site. Use the preview as your test rather than assuming a particular browser version will render the same way.
When text is cut off
- Switch to landscape for wide tables, dashboards, or code listings.
- Reduce scale slightly if the right edge or a column is clipped. Do not reduce it so far that normal body text becomes difficult to read.
- Increase margins if elements are touching the paper edge; decrease them only when the page wastes substantial space.
When the PDF is enormous or hard to read
- Use a larger paper size if your reader or printer supports it.
- Remove browser headers and footers when they add noise, but keep them if the URL and date are part of your record.
- Prefer several readable pages over forcing an entire article into one tiny sheet.
When sections are missing
Some sites insert content only after scrolling, after a click, or after a request finishes. Scroll through the page first, wait for images and embedded content, and print again. A print preview that still omits a section may reflect the site’s print stylesheet or an element that exists only in an interactive view; changing scale cannot restore content that was never sent to the print layout.

Verify the saved PDF
Do not treat a successful download as proof that the conversion worked. Open the file and check three points:
- Beginning: title, introduction, and any navigation or metadata you need.
- Middle: a representative image, table, code block, or dynamically loaded section.
- End: the final paragraphs, references, and footer.
Try selecting and copying a sentence. Search for a distinctive heading. Confirm that images are visible, tables are legible, and page breaks do not hide rows or captions. If text cannot be selected, you may have a screenshot-based PDF rather than a text PDF; that can be acceptable for a visual record, but it is not equivalent for searching, copying, or accessibility.
When a full-page capture extension is the better fit
A full-page capture extension can export a visual record of the rendered page when print preview has a poor layout. The researched Chrome Web Store listing advertises full-page capture, a single tall-page export, and standard paper sizes. Those are vendor-listing claims, not an independent guarantee, so test the resulting file.

Use it safely
- Test the extension on a non-sensitive public page first.
- Read its permissions and privacy terms before using it on a private, logged-in, or customer page.
- Capture the page only after dynamic content has appeared; sticky headers, lazy images, infinite scrolling, and dialogs can affect the result.
- Open the exported PDF and check file size, legibility, missing sections, and text selectability.
A very tall screenshot may preserve the exact visual appearance but can produce a large file, awkward zooming, or non-selectable text. It also may duplicate sticky elements on every captured segment. Choose it for appearance, not automatically for document usability.

Chrome’s pageCapture extension API saves a tab as MHTML and requires the pageCapture permission in an extension manifest. Chrome’s Save Page As feature likewise creates webpage files. Neither produces a PDF, so use them only when an archive is your actual requirement.

The preview is blank or stops early
Reload, wait for network activity and lazy content to finish, then scroll through the page before reopening print preview. If the page requires a login or blocks automated rendering, a browser session may be necessary; do not assume a blank preview means the source page is empty.

Images or embedded media are missing
Confirm that images finished loading and that the print settings do not suppress backgrounds. Some video players are interactive and will not become playable video inside a static PDF; capture a still frame or use the page’s own download option when available.

Try landscape, a larger paper size, or a modest scale reduction. If the table remains wider than the printable area, capture it separately or use a visual full-page method and verify readability.
The PDF contains repeated sticky headers
Sticky navigation can be repeated by print CSS or by a screenshot stitcher. Hide the element through the site’s print options when available; otherwise, use custom CSS or a capture setting that disables the header, and inspect every page.
The downloaded file is too large
Reduce image-heavy content where your tool permits it, avoid unnecessarily high retina scale, and prefer print-to-PDF when selectable text is sufficient. Keep the original page available if compression removes details.

Can I make a long webpage a single continuous PDF page?

Why is my PDF different from what I see on screen?

Is MHTML the same as PDF?
No. MHTML and Save Page files are browser-oriented webpage archives. A PDF is a paginated document intended for reading, sharing, or printing.
What should I do with a page that requires a login?
Use a browser session you are authorized to access, review the site’s policies, and verify that the saved file does not expose private information. Do not share the PDF or credentials unintentionally.
