You can collect Cash App Pay in WordPress only through a payment provider and checkout integration that explicitly supports Cash App Pay for your setup. Cash App directs merchants to sign up with Afterpay and lists Square, Afterpay, Stripe, and Adyen as supported payment service providers. Its current platform list names Shopify, Magento, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud—not WordPress. WooCommerce support for Afterpay does not, by itself, confirm support for Cash App Pay.
What you need to know before setting it up
Cash App Pay is a merchant checkout method, not simply a way to display a personal $Cashtag or accept a peer-to-peer transfer. Cash App’s terms restrict acceptance to merchants it has approved: Cash App Terms of Service.
Cash App’s merchant guidance says, “To add Cash App Pay as a payment method, merchants should sign up with Afterpay.” It also lists Square, Afterpay, Stripe, and Adyen among payment service providers that support Cash App Pay. Its platform documentation separately names Shopify, Magento, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud. WordPress is not named in that list, so do not assume that a general WordPress payment plugin—or a plugin that accepts Afterpay—will offer Cash App Pay. See Cash App Pay partner documentation.
Choose a route that explicitly supports Cash App Pay
Start by asking the payment provider you intend to use whether it currently enables Cash App Pay for your precise WordPress or WooCommerce checkout. Confirm the method by name: support for Afterpay, Cash App transfers, or another wallet is not proof of Cash App Pay support.

| Route or evidence | What it establishes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Cash App-listed payment service provider | Cash App lists Square, Afterpay, Stripe, and Adyen among providers supporting Cash App Pay. Cash App partner documentation. | Whether that provider currently supports Cash App Pay with your WordPress setup, in your region, and under your merchant account. |
| Afterpay on WooCommerce | Afterpay’s platform quickstart lists WooCommerce and describes connecting an Afterpay merchant account through a platform plugin. Afterpay platform quickstart. | Whether the specific current plugin and account also enable Cash App Pay. The WooCommerce listing alone does not establish that. |
| Custom integration | Cash App documents a Pay Kit front-end SDK and a server-side Network API for partners. Cash App partner documentation. | Partner approval, API access, certification, and provider instructions for production. |
How to proceed with WooCommerce
- Check provider availability. Contact the payment provider or consult its current WordPress/WooCommerce documentation. Ask whether Cash App Pay—not just Afterpay—is supported for your exact setup and merchant location.
- Confirm the integration details. Verify the plugin’s name, current version, maintenance status, required merchant account, and which checkout methods it enables. Get confirmation from the provider if the documentation is unclear.
- Complete merchant onboarding. Follow the provider’s account and approval steps. Cash App identifies Afterpay as its merchant sign-up route; eligibility and activation depend on the relevant provider and merchant account. Cash App partner documentation.
- Install and configure only the provider’s documented integration. Enter merchant credentials in the designated plugin settings, following the provider’s instructions. Do not put secret API credentials in a page, public code, or customer-facing form.
- Test before enabling live payments. If the provider offers a sandbox or test mode, run a complete checkout and confirm the order and payment status return correctly to WordPress. Afterpay’s platform quickstart refers to sandbox credentials for development environments. Follow the provider’s separate instructions to activate production payments. Afterpay platform quickstart.
What customers see at checkout
The documented flow depends on the device. On desktop, checkout can show a QR code for the customer to scan with Cash App on a phone. On mobile, the customer is redirected from checkout to Cash App to approve the payment, then returned to the merchant site. Explain this flow in your checkout guidance so customers know why a phone approval or return to your site is part of payment. Cash App Pay partner documentation.
When a custom integration is appropriate
A custom build is not a shortcut around merchant onboarding. Cash App describes Pay Kit as its front-end SDK and the Network API as its server-side interface. Its partner onboarding process requires approval before API access is provisioned, and production integrations require certification. A merchant without that approval should use a provider-supported integration rather than attempt to build directly against Cash App APIs. Cash App partner documentation.
