The most reliable general way to check a Samsung Galaxy phone’s battery health is Samsung Members → Support → Phone diagnostics → Battery status. Depending on your model, region, One UI version, and Samsung Members version, the app may instead show Test all. Samsung typically reports Normal, Weak, or Bad—not one universal battery-health percentage.
What “battery health” means
Battery level is the charge remaining right now. Battery health describes how much usable capacity the battery retains compared with when it was new. Battery usage shows what is consuming power, while battery condition is Samsung’s diagnostic assessment.
A phone can report Normal battery health and still drain quickly because of high brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, weak cellular signal, gaming, navigation, camera use, background apps, heat, cold, or a recent software update. Samsung identifies unexpectedly short runtime, shutdowns, and performance changes as possible signs of battery degradation. Samsung’s battery guidance explains these symptoms.

How to check battery health with Samsung Members
- Update Samsung Members from the Galaxy Store or Google Play.
- Open Samsung Members.
- Tap Support at the bottom.
- Under Phone diagnostics, tap Get started.
- Select Battery status. On some phones, tap Test all and review the battery result afterward.
You may need an internet connection or Samsung account. Menu names can differ by model, carrier, country, One UI release, and app version. Samsung documents both the U.S. diagnostic path and the regional Battery status path.

What Normal, Weak, and Bad mean
| Result | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | No battery-performance problem was detected by the diagnostic. | Investigate apps, signal, display settings, heat, and charging equipment if endurance is poor. |
| Weak | Battery efficiency may have declined because of use or environmental conditions. | Monitor runtime and symptoms. Compare battery replacement cost with the phone’s value. |
| Bad | Battery life has significantly degraded. | Contact Samsung or an authorized repair provider about service or replacement. |
A Weak result does not automatically mean the phone is unsafe or must be replaced immediately. A Bad result, repeated shutdowns, severe runtime loss, or overheating makes professional assessment more important.
If Samsung Members is missing or does not work
- Install or update Samsung Members from the Galaxy Store or Google Play.
- Look for Diagnostics, Phone diagnostics, Get help, or Support if the labels differ.
- Sign in to your Samsung account and confirm that the phone is online.
- Restart the phone and install available system updates.
- Clear the app cache at Settings → Apps → Samsung Members → Storage → Clear cache.
- Check whether carrier, enterprise, regional, or refurbished-device restrictions affect the feature.
If diagnostics remain unavailable, use Samsung’s repair and support workflow or visit an authorized service location.
Fast drain does not necessarily mean a bad battery
Open Settings → Battery and review the battery-use graph and top-consuming apps. Check whether the drain is mainly caused by the screen, mobile network, one app, or idle background activity.
- Update or uninstall an unusually active app.
- Restrict background usage where appropriate.
- Compare overnight idle drain under similar Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and signal conditions.
- Test in Safe mode if the problem began after installing an app.
- Consider heat, weak signal, demanding games, navigation, video recording, and recent updates before judging the battery.
One poor day of battery life is not proof of battery failure.

- Basic: charging stops at 100% and resumes when the level falls to 95%.
- Maximum: charging stops at the limit you select.
- Adaptive: the phone learns your routine, pauses around 80% during the relevant period, and switches to Basic before you are expected to wake.
Battery protection is intended to reduce stress from remaining fully charged for long periods; it does not restore worn capacity. Samsung specifically recommends checking this setting when a phone will not charge beyond 80% or 85%. See Samsung’s battery-protection guide and charging troubleshooting instructions.
Can you see a battery-health percentage or cycle count?
Not through one universal Samsung menu. Some Galaxy models and software builds may expose additional battery information, but Samsung’s general consumer diagnostic uses condition categories. Do not assume that every phone has Settings → Battery → Battery health, a maximum-capacity percentage, or a cycle-count screen.

Their estimates may require several charging cycles and depend on reported design capacity, permissions, and firmware behavior. Different apps can disagree. Treat these figures as estimates, not laboratory measurements or a replacement for Samsung’s diagnostic.
Undocumented service codes and raw system reports are also version-, carrier-, and region-dependent. They should not be used alone to authorize a repair.
When to seek repair
Arrange a formal check if you notice substantially shorter runtime, rapid drain immediately after charging, unexpected or cold-weather shutdowns, erratic percentage changes, unusual heat during ordinary use or charging, a Samsung degradation alert, or a Samsung Members result of Weak or Bad.

Battery replacement is often sensible when the phone otherwise meets your needs, still receives important updates, and its replacement cost is well below that of an equivalent phone. Upgrading may make more sense when the device has multiple hardware faults, poor update support, inadequate storage or performance, scarce parts, or a repair cost close to the phone’s value.
Swollen battery warning
Stop using and charging a visibly swollen or physically damaged phone. Do not press the back panel into place, puncture or bend the battery, or attempt self-repair. Keep the device away from heat and flammable materials and contact Samsung or an authorized provider for handling and disposal instructions. Samsung warns that swollen batteries should not be handled through self-repair; see its self-repair guidance.
Choosing a repair option

Samsung does not publish one universal Galaxy battery-replacement price. Cost depends on the model, diagnosis, warranty status, and repair type. Request a model-specific estimate through Samsung repair support or check local availability through Samsung Mobile Care.
Samsung Care+ terms can use a 79%-or-less capacity finding for battery-repair eligibility in the U.S.; that is a plan condition, not a universal Samsung replacement rule for every Galaxy owner. Check the current Care+ terms before relying on coverage.

Does Samsung have battery health like iPhone?
Samsung does not provide one universal percentage-based battery-health screen across Galaxy phones. Samsung Members is the official general method and commonly reports Normal, Weak, or Bad.

Why does my Samsung only charge to 80%?
Check Settings → Battery → Battery protection. Maximum or Adaptive protection may intentionally limit charging.
Is Samsung Members accurate?
It is Samsung’s official consumer diagnostic, but it is a condition assessment rather than a guaranteed laboratory capacity measurement.
Can I check battery health without an app?
Some models expose additional information in system menus, but there is no universal built-in percentage or cycle-count path. Samsung Members remains the most consistent official option.
How often should I test it?
Test when runtime changes noticeably, shutdowns begin, the phone overheats, or you are considering repair or buying a used device.

Is a Normal result proof the battery is like new?
No. It means the diagnostic did not detect a battery-performance problem. Actual endurance still depends on usage, signal, temperature, and software.

Should I use AccuBattery or another monitoring app?
You can use one for a multi-day estimate, but readings depend on charging data and firmware. Do not treat a third-party percentage as definitive.
What does Weak mean?
Battery efficiency may have declined. Continue monitoring symptoms and compare replacement cost with the phone’s value.
Can a software update cause battery drain?
Yes. Updates can temporarily or persistently change background activity or app behavior. Review Battery usage before concluding that the battery is worn.
