Instagram has no single country switch. You can change a location displayed in your bio or professional business details, but the country Instagram associates with your account is generally inferred from signals such as connection information and activity—not entered as a normal profile setting. The right fix depends on where you see the old country.
First, identify which Instagram country setting is wrong

Location tags on individual posts, reels, or stories identify those pieces of content; changing or removing a tag does not change your account country.
Change the country shown in your Instagram bio
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Edit the Bio field to remove or replace the old country or location.
- Tap Done or the save control shown in your app.
This updates only the profile text other people see. It does not change Instagram’s internal location estimate, the “Account based in” label, ad-account settings, or eligibility for regional features. Menu labels can vary by app version, operating system, and language.

Change a professional account’s business location
- Open your professional Instagram profile and tap Edit profile.
- Open Contact options, Public business information, or the equivalent business-information control.
- Edit the available business address, city, country, or map location, then save.
These controls may not appear on a personal account. If the professional account is connected to a Facebook Page, some business information may be managed through that Page or other linked business assets. Meta explains how to connect or change the Page associated with an Instagram professional account at its Instagram Help Center.

A business address is a public-facing business detail, not proof of the country Instagram internally associates with the account. Editing it does not necessarily change ad-account country, monetization eligibility, or the About This Account label.
Can you change the country in “About This Account”?
There is no documented ordinary profile setting for editing the country shown in About This Account. Instagram describes this as a country location based on account activity. The section may also show details such as the join date, former usernames, and active ads; availability and presentation can vary. See Instagram’s explanation of About This Account.
If the label appears wrong, correct any inaccurate bio or business information and use the account normally from your actual location. If the classification is materially inaccurate, contact Meta through an available support channel; a manual change is not guaranteed. Instagram does not publish a fixed number of days, logins, or posts that will make this label update.

Why Instagram may associate your account with a location
Instagram describes primary location as an estimate that can draw on connection information, including IP address, activity on Instagram, and location tags on content you engage with. Device location information may also be relevant. This is an inference, not simply the country written in your bio. Meta’s details are in its primary-location help page and location privacy guide.
Turning off device Location Services can reduce access to precise device location, but it does not necessarily prevent country or region estimates based on network and activity signals. A VPN is not a reliable country-change control: it may alter the apparent IP location while other signals point elsewhere. A phone’s region setting is not a substitute for an Instagram country setting either.
If you want local recommendations or different ads
There is no profile switch that guarantees a different local feed. Recommendations and ads can reflect multiple signals, including activity, profile information, and location. Instagram says location is among the factors that may influence security, relevance, and advertising; see Instagram’s information about location and ads.

For advertising personalization, review the controls available to your account:
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu, then open Accounts Center.
- Tap Ad preferences, then review Ad topics and related controls.
- Adjust the options available to you.
Meta notes that not every setting is available to every user or in every region. These preferences affect ad personalization; they do not change your account’s country. See Instagram’s guide to ad preferences.
If you have moved, make sure your profile details are accurate, review device location permissions if you want to manage precise-location access, and use a consistent normal network connection. Following and interacting with accounts and content relevant to your new interests may shape what you see, but none of these steps guarantees an immediate change in recommendations or internal location classification.

If the issue is Instagram advertising, currency, or billing
Separate the country you want an ad to reach from the country and payment settings attached to the advertising account. In Meta Ads Manager, a campaign can normally target selected countries or regions. That changes campaign delivery, not the country Instagram associates with your personal or professional profile.
Ad-account country, currency, and time zone are settings associated with the Meta advertising account, while a payment method may have its own billing details. If these were set incorrectly, check Ads Manager’s business and payment settings first. Meta’s available changes can depend on the specific account and current interface. If it does not allow the required change, creating a new ad account configured for the correct legal business location may be necessary, subject to Meta’s account and billing rules. Do not assume an existing ad account can always be edited or that a new one is always required.

Shopping, subscriptions, gifts, other monetization programs, music, payment methods, and certain ad products can depend on actual location, account status, legal or tax details, product availability, and Meta’s regional rules. A VPN or displayed-location change is not a reliable way to qualify.
Troubleshoot an old country that keeps appearing
- Pinpoint the label. Check whether the old country is in the bio, professional business details, About This Account, recommendations, an ad campaign, or billing settings.
- Update editable details. Correct the bio or professional address using the relevant profile controls.
- Check linked business information. If you use a professional account, review the connected Facebook Page and Meta business assets for an old address.
- Review location signals you control. Check device location permissions and avoid a VPN or proxy if it creates inconsistent location signals.
- Refresh the app. Update Instagram and restart it. If you log out and back in, first confirm your password and recovery options.
- Check the right Meta account. For advertising or billing issues, review Ads Manager and payment settings rather than editing the Instagram bio.
- Report a genuine error. Use Instagram’s in-app Report a Problem option or a Meta support channel available to your account.
These steps can correct displayed information or improve the accuracy of signals Instagram receives, but they do not guarantee that an internal location estimate or transparency label will change immediately. Repeatedly creating accounts or making rapid, inconsistent location changes can also lead to security checks or verification requests.
