To change a font in WordPress, first check whether your active theme is a block theme or a classic theme. With a block theme, use Appearance > Editor > Styles for site-wide typography, or change a supported block in its Typography settings. Classic themes do not use the Site Editor workflow, so their font controls depend on the theme.
Choose the right font workflow
The right setting depends on the scope of the change, your theme, and where the font comes from. The theme determines which font families and typography controls are available.

If you do not see the font-family control, open the Typography options menu and check whether the control can be enabled. The exact controls depend on the selected block and theme. See WordPress’s typography settings overview.
Change typography across a block-theme site
For a site-wide change, open Appearance > Editor > Styles > Typography. Choose the site element or block type you want to adjust, then select an available font. Styles can set typography across the site and defaults for block types. This workflow is for block themes and requires WordPress 5.9 or higher. WordPress explains Styles here.

If your WordPress installation and theme provide the Font Library, open Appearance > Fonts to manage theme fonts, upload fonts, or install fonts from Google Fonts. Afterward, use Appearance > Editor > Styles to apply an available font across the site or to a block. The Font Library and its options may not be available in every theme or setup, and the theme still determines which options appear. Read the Font Library documentation.
If Appearance > Editor is missing
Check which theme is active. The Site Editor is for block themes; classic themes do not support that workflow. A classic theme may offer typography settings in its own options or in the Customizer, but the menu path differs from theme to theme. Check the active theme’s documentation rather than following block-theme instructions that do not match your dashboard. WordPress’s Site Editor guide describes the theme distinction.
For theme developers: register font families
Theme developers can register font families with the settings.typography.fontFamilies property in theme.json. WordPress documents support for system fonts and web fonts bundled with a theme; registered families can then appear in supported block typography controls. See the WordPress theme documentation for typography settings.
