In the current Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance > Fonts. Choose a value under Font size to change the browser’s default presentation of webpage text, or select Customize fonts to choose default font families and a minimum font size. The shortcut is to enter edge://settings/fonts in the address bar. These settings affect webpage defaults, not necessarily every site or Edge’s own menus and toolbar.
Change the default font size in Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge and select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings, then Appearance.
- Scroll to Fonts and open the Font size drop-down.
- Choose the size you want. The change sets a default for webpage text; a website’s own styling may limit or override what you see.
To go directly to the Fonts settings, type edge://settings/fonts in the address bar and press Enter. If that internal address is unavailable in your installation, use the Settings menu path. Edge’s layout and labels can change between releases, so the visible path may differ slightly. Microsoft’s instructions for the new Edge are at Increase default text size in Microsoft Edge.
Change the default font style or family
In everyday searches, “font style” often means the typeface or font family, such as serif or sans-serif, rather than bold or italic formatting. On the Fonts page, select Customize fonts. Depending on your Edge version, the available controls may include:

- Serif font for letterforms with small finishing strokes.
- Sans-serif font for letterforms without those strokes.
- Fixed-width font for characters that occupy equal horizontal space, often useful for code.
- Minimum font size to prevent text from rendering below a chosen readability threshold.
Labels and controls can vary by release. A fixed-width font is usually best reserved for code or similar content, rather than used as a universal choice. A familiar, legible family is often more comfortable than an unfamiliar one.

Use minimum font size cautiously
A minimum font size can help on pages with exceptionally small text, but forcing small text above a threshold may alter line wrapping, lengthen pages, or cause clipped and overlapping content. It does not necessarily enlarge images, icons, navigation controls, or every form element. Start with a modest increase and reduce it if a site becomes harder to use. Microsoft documents font customization from the Fonts area but does not specify one universal numeric range for every Edge build.
Enlarge one webpage with page zoom
If just one site is too small, page zoom is usually a better fit than changing your default font preferences. Zoom scales the page more broadly, including text and many controls; it can also cause responsive pages to rearrange.

- Windows: press Ctrl + Plus to zoom in, Ctrl + Minus to zoom out, and Ctrl + 0 to reset the current page to its default zoom.
- macOS: press Command + Plus to zoom in, Command + Minus to zoom out, and Command + 0 to reset.
- Alternatively, select Settings and more (…) and use the Zoom in or Zoom out control.
Edge also lets you set a default zoom level and manage zoom for individual sites. The setting’s location can vary by release; Microsoft’s Edge accessibility features guide covers zoom and its shortcuts.
Change text in Immersive Reader
Immersive Reader, also called Reading mode in some Edge interfaces, provides a separate reading view for supported webpages. It is useful when you want less visual clutter and controls for text size, font, spacing, themes, or column width, but it is not a global font override and may hide or rearrange page features.

- Open a webpage that supports Immersive Reader.
- Select Enter Immersive Reader in the address bar if the button appears. You can also use the Edge menu’s Immersive Reader option where offered, or press F9 on a supported page.
- In the reading toolbar, select Text preferences or its settings icon.
- Adjust the available font, text size, spacing, theme, and column width options.
If the entry button or menu option is absent, the page may not be supported. See Microsoft’s guides to using Immersive Reader and changing its font style and size.
Font size, minimum size, zoom, and display scaling

Edge’s font preferences are for webpage rendering, not a supported way to replace every typeface in tabs, menus, settings, and toolbar labels. If the browser interface itself is too small, adjust operating-system text size or display scaling. Why a website may ignore your font choice
Edge’s default font settings are preferences, not an absolute override. A page may specify its own font family or size with CSS, load a web font, or display text as part of an image, video, canvas, or other element that does not behave like ordinary text. Existing page or site-specific zoom can also make a font change difficult to notice. If an organization manages your browser, some settings may be restricted.

Troubleshoot font changes that do not work
- Test the selected font size on a simple, text-heavy webpage.
- Return to Settings > Appearance > Fonts > Customize fonts and check the relevant selections.
- If a particular page remains too small, try Ctrl + Plus on Windows or Command + Plus on macOS. Use the matching Ctrl + 0 or Command + 0 shortcut to reset zoom.
- Try Immersive Reader if the page supports it and your goal is comfortable reading rather than preserving the original layout.
- If a control is missing, search Settings for “fonts,” use
edge://settings/fonts, or return to the normal Appearance path. Update Edge if its interface appears out of date. - If settings are unavailable or cannot be changed, check whether a school or employer manages the browser.

Choose the right option

| Only one website needs to be larger | Use page zoom for that site. |
| Text is tiny despite your default font preference | Try a minimum font size carefully, or use page zoom. |
| Text and browser controls both need to be larger | Use page zoom for the page; use operating-system scaling for the broader interface. |
| You want a quieter reading layout | Use Immersive Reader on a supported webpage. |
These instructions apply to the current Chromium-based Edge, which Microsoft calls the new Microsoft Edge. Legacy Edge had a different interface and is not covered here.
