Zapier’s Chrome extension can supply the current page title and URL through its New Push trigger; the connected screenshot app—not Zapier itself—renders the page.
How the Zapier screenshot workflow works
A typical workflow has three parts: a trigger that supplies a webpage URL, a screenshot action that captures it, and a destination action that stores or forwards the result. The exact action names and available fields depend on the connected app and your Zapier account, so check the live integration setup screens as you build.
- Trigger: Start the Zap from a webpage in Chrome, submit a URL to an image action, or use a monitoring trigger if you want to detect visual changes.
- Capture: Map the trigger’s URL into the connected screenshot service’s required URL or Website field, and choose its output format.
- Route: Map the screenshot output into a following action, such as a supported storage or email app. The available destination depends on the apps connected to your account.
Use the Chrome extension to capture the page you are viewing
Zapier’s Chrome extension is documented as available only in Google Chrome; Zapier’s help article was updated May 29, 2026. The extension can create, send, retrieve information, and run Zaps from the browser. Its New Push trigger is useful when you want to initiate a capture from a particular page rather than type or maintain a URL separately.
In the New Push trigger listing, the default payload includes the website title, URL, timestamp, and the person who triggered the Zap. Additional input fields can be added. The URL is the key value for the screenshot action; the title and timestamp can help label or organize the resulting file.

- In Zapier, create a Zap and choose Zapier Chrome extension as the trigger app.
- Select the New Push event and connect the account or extension when prompted.
- Set up and test the trigger using the extension on the page you want to capture. Confirm the sample includes the expected URL and title before continuing.
- Add a screenshot-service action and map the trigger’s URL field to its required URL, Website, or similarly named input.
Use the extension route when a person should deliberately choose the page in the browser. If the Zap should instead process a URL supplied by another app or form, use that app’s trigger and map its URL into the same type of screenshot action.
Choose a screenshot action and configure the capture
Zapier lists several connected capture actions. Screenshot API offers a Take Screenshot action with URL or Website and Output Format as required inputs. GetScreenshot lists a Take Website Screenshot action, with Website URL and Full Page Capture among its inputs. HTML to Image lists Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website), using a Webpage URL. These are separate integrations; their fields and behavior should not be assumed interchangeable.
| Connected action | Listed inputs or controls | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot API — Take Screenshot | Required: URL or Website and Output Format. Optional fields listed include file type, full-page capture, fresh screenshot, delay in milliseconds, load event, width and height, text or HTML extraction, lazy loading, retina, dark mode, background, blocking ads/cookies/tracking/chat, selector capture, cookies, headers, proxy, injected CSS/JavaScript, custom HTML, font blocking, blur/remove selectors, and user agent. | When you need a broad set of capture and rendering controls in the listed action. |
| GetScreenshot — Take Website Screenshot | Website URL and Full Page Capture are listed, with optional width, highlight phrase, PDF output, extra wait, advanced strategy/CSS, and other API parameters. | When you want a live-site capture with full-page, PDF, or listed advanced options. |
| HTML to Image — Convert URL to Image | Webpage URL, full-page capture, wait seconds, image quality, and whether to generate an image URL are listed. | When URL-to-image conversion and its listed quality and wait settings fit the job. |
These are integration listing fields, not a guarantee that every option will appear for every account or remain unchanged. Verify the current action form and connected service documentation before building a Zap that depends on a particular control.
Set scope, size, and output
Choose a full-page capture when the complete page matters; choose a viewport capture when you only need what is visible at a particular screen size. Where offered, specify width and height to make captures more consistent. Confirm whether the action produces an image, a PDF, or a link to an image: a following Zap step must accept the output type you map into it.

Wait for the page to render
A screenshot may be captured before a page finishes loading dynamic content. The listed actions offer different ways to account for this: delay in milliseconds or a load event in Screenshot API; extra wait and advanced strategy in GetScreenshot; and wait seconds in HTML to Image. Screenshot API also lists lazy loading. Select the smallest wait or load condition that reliably allows the content you need to appear; longer waits can add time to each Zap run.
Capture one element instead of the full page
If you only need a chart, product card, or other region, use an element-capture option where available. Screenshot API lists selector capture, while GetScreenshot lists an element-screenshot action that requires an element selector. A selector is a CSS pattern identifying the target element on the page. If the page’s markup changes or the selector matches nothing, the intended region may not be captured, so validate the target against the page and review the test output.
Send the screenshot to a destination
After the capture action, add a destination app available in your Zapier account. Map the capture output that the destination expects: an image or file field if it accepts file content, or a URL field if the screenshot action returns a usable image link. A title or timestamp from the trigger can be used in a filename or message if the destination provides a corresponding field.

Use those only if they fit your desired handoff; otherwise, choose a destination supported by your connected apps. The GetScreenshot listing notes a Starter plan requirement for Zaps with three or more steps. That note is specific to its listing and should not be treated as a general Zapier plan rule; verify the current plan terms for your account.
Test the Zap before turning it on
- Run the trigger setup and confirm the sample URL is the page you intend to capture.
- Run the screenshot action and check its returned output, including whether it is an image, PDF, or URL.
- Check that the image shows the intended viewport or full page, that important content has rendered, and that the selected format is accepted by the next action.
- Run the destination step and confirm the resulting file, link, or email is routed to the correct place.
- Turn on the Zap only after the trigger, capture, and destination outputs are mapped as intended.
A successful setup test demonstrates that the sample path works; it does not establish that every future page will render identically. Live sites can change layout, content, or loading behavior.

When to use URL capture or visual-change monitoring instead
The Chrome push trigger is for a person initiating a capture from a browser page. If another step already provides a URL, use that URL as the input to a screenshot action rather than adding a manual browser trigger. For ongoing visual-change detection, Zapier lists a Website Changed trigger from Screenshots by Snapshot Site. Its listing says it re-screenshots a URL at each polling interval, compares the new capture with the prior one, and fires when the change exceeds a configured threshold. The first check establishes a baseline and does not fire, so this is a monitoring workflow, not a one-off manual screenshot.
| Need | Workflow approach |
|---|---|
| Capture the page a person is currently viewing | Zapier Chrome extension’s New Push trigger, then a screenshot action using its URL. |
| Capture a URL supplied by another workflow step | Use that step’s URL as the input to a URL-to-image or website-screenshot action. |
| Capture only a page element | Use a selector-based element capture, where supported, and verify the selector. |
| Detect changes over time | Use a visual-change trigger such as Snapshot Site’s listed Website Changed event, with its baseline and polling behavior in mind. |
Or skip the browser setup
If you only need a screenshot from a URL and do not need the Chrome push trigger, ScreenshotNeo is a direct screenshot API option. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with supported newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server so AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client can take screenshots.
For a basic capture, save this as a shell command, replace the API key, and change the target URL as needed. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for setup and available options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo’s free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. You can use a ScreenshotNeo screenshot in a Zap when your workflow can pass a URL to the API and then route the returned result through an appropriate connected action.

The trigger does not provide the expected URL
Check that the Chrome extension’s New Push event is the selected trigger and that the trigger test was initiated from the intended webpage. Review the test payload before mapping fields; use the URL value, not the page title, as the screenshot action’s URL input.

The screenshot action rejects the URL or returns no useful output
Confirm the URL field is mapped and contains a complete webpage address. Re-run the action test and inspect the output fields. If the action expects an output format, select one explicitly. If it returns an image URL rather than file content, map that URL only to a destination field that accepts a link.
The page is captured before important content appears
Increase the wait setting or select a suitable load event if the action exposes one. For pages that load content as you scroll, check whether lazy loading is available. Re-test on the same URL and inspect the actual capture rather than assuming a longer delay fixed every dynamic element.
A full-page capture is clipped or has the wrong dimensions
Verify that Full Page Capture is enabled and that the action is not set to a fixed viewport when you need the full document. Where width and height are exposed, check that they match the layout you expect. Compare the captured output with the selected capture scope.
An element capture is blank or captures the wrong region
Check the CSS selector against the current page structure and ensure it identifies the intended element. A selector that no longer matches after a site redesign will not reliably identify the target. If the selector-based action still does not return the needed region, use a full-page or viewport capture instead.
The next Zap step cannot use the screenshot
Inspect whether the capture step returned an image, PDF, or URL, then select a compatible input in the destination action. If the capture action offers a separate image URL or file output, map the one the destination accepts. Test the destination step independently within Zap setup.

The Zap does not run on a non-Chrome browser
The cited Zapier help article documents the Chrome extension as Chrome-only. If Chrome is unavailable, use a trigger from another connected app that supplies a URL, or choose a URL-based workflow rather than relying on the extension.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zapier take the screenshot itself?
No. The connected screenshot-service action performs the capture; Zapier triggers the workflow and passes data between steps.
Can I use the Chrome extension on a browser other than Chrome?
Zapier’s help article, updated May 29, 2026, documents the extension as available only in Google Chrome.
Recommended Free Tools
Does a visual-change Zap take a screenshot immediately when it is first set up?
Snapshot Site’s listed Website Changed trigger uses its first check as a baseline; that initial check does not fire a change event.
