Open the Twitter/X page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, and choose Capture full page or Capture area. Review the result, annotate it if needed, then copy or save the image. Edge calls this feature Screenshot; older documentation and menus may call it Web Capture.
The steps below cover a single post, a selected region, an entire scrolling page, visible-screen captures, and automated alternatives. Microsoft cautions that Screenshot availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and Edge version.
Capture a Twitter/X post in Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the Twitter/X post or profile you want to capture.
- Wait until the post, images, video thumbnail, replies, and any surrounding context you want are visible. If you need a particular post, scroll it into a clear position before opening Screenshot.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Settings and more (···) and choose Screenshot, or right-click the page and choose the screenshot command when it is available.
- Choose Capture area, drag around the post or region, and release. This excludes unrelated page content.
- Review the capture. Use Edge’s drawing or markup controls to highlight something, then choose the control to copy the image or save it as a file.
For a post, include enough of the page to preserve context—such as the account name, timestamp, and relevant text—without including private information or unrelated replies.
Take a full-page screenshot of an X page
- Load the page and allow the content you need to settle. For a timeline, scroll far enough to confirm that the relevant posts have loaded.
- Open Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select Capture full page. Edge captures content beyond the current viewport, including a long webpage.
- Inspect the resulting image for delayed images, clipped media, duplicated sections, or content that appeared while the page was loading.
- Annotate, copy, or save the image.
Full-page capture is a webpage operation, not a guarantee that every item in an infinite or dynamically changing X timeline will be included. Content that has not loaded, requires interaction, or changes after capture may not appear.

Capture only what is visible on your screen
If you need a quick picture of the current browser window rather than a long webpage, use Windows Snipping Tool. Press Windows logo key + Shift + S, choose a rectangular, window, or full-screen mode, select the region, and save or annotate the result in Snipping Tool. This captures visible screen content; it does not automatically create a full scrolling webpage.

Improve the quality of an X screenshot
Load the exact state first
Dismiss overlays that obscure the post, expand text only when the expanded version is what you need, and wait for images or quoted posts to finish loading. If the page is still moving, pause briefly before starting Screenshot.
Preserve useful context
A tightly cropped post is easier to read, while a wider capture can show the account, date, reply relationship, or quoted-post attribution. Capture the smallest area that still answers the purpose of your record.
Check the saved file
Open the saved image before closing the tab. Confirm that text is legible, media is present, and no selection handles or transient menus were included. Keep the original file if you plan to crop or annotate a copy.

Consider privacy and permission
A screenshot records what was displayed; it does not establish that you may republish the post, image, or personal information. The Microsoft material documenting Edge Screenshot does not set an X-specific sharing policy. Check the account’s context, applicable law, platform terms, and any permission required before publishing or distributing the image.
If Screenshot is missing or does not work
The command is not visible
- Update Edge, then restart it and try Ctrl+Shift+S again.
- Look in Settings and more (···) and in the page context menu; the label may be Screenshot or the older Web Capture.
- On a work or school computer, an administrator may have disabled the feature through the WebCaptureEnabled policy.
- Microsoft’s policy documentation describes support for Windows and macOS from Edge version 87; Android and iOS are not supported by that policy. Actual availability can still vary by device, market, and browser version.
The full page is incomplete
- Return to the page, let visible media load, and retry.
- For a feed that loads posts as you scroll, capture a specific post with Capture area or take several deliberate captures instead of assuming one full-page image contains the entire feed.
- Use Snipping Tool when the required content is already visible and a screen capture is sufficient.
The post is hidden by an overlay
Close cookie prompts, sign-in prompts, chat panels, or other overlays before starting Screenshot. If the overlay is part of what you need to document, use Capture area while it is visible rather than expecting a clean full-page result.
The image is hard to read
Capture at the browser’s normal zoom first, then crop a copy. A very narrow area may omit account or timestamp context; a very wide full-page image may make post text tiny when viewed at once.
Print the page instead of making an image
When your goal is an archival or printable document, open Edge Print with Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Microsoft’s print guide documents options such as background graphics. Print output is a document workflow, so it may paginate or reflow an X page rather than preserve the exact appearance of a screenshot.

Dynamic X pages
Use a selector wait, a short delay, or network-idle wait when a post or image is rendered after the initial HTML. A CSS selector can target one post or media region instead of an entire feed. Custom JavaScript can perform a permitted click before capture, while hidden selectors can remove an element that is irrelevant to the image.
Reliability and billing signals
Inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed on each response. They distinguish a clean result from a bot check, blank page, timeout, failed load, or cache hit, and clarify whether the request consumed a billable shot. Configure a cache TTL when repeated captures of an unchanged URL are acceptable.
Authentication and restricted pages
For pages requiring access, pass the necessary cookies, custom headers, user agent, or Authorization data. Treat those values as secrets, avoid logging them, and verify that your use complies with the account and content owner’s rules.

Large batches
Bulk capture supports up to 100 URLs per call. For recurring jobs, asynchronous captures with signed webhooks avoid keeping a request open while each page loads. Resize or choose WebP when transfer size matters; choose PNG when lossless text or transparency is important, and PDF when the deliverable is a document.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Edge Screenshot work on a private X account?
It captures whatever the signed-in Edge session is allowed to display. You must already be authorized to view the account, and the capture does not grant permission to share the resulting image.
What is the difference between Screenshot and Web Capture?
They are the same Edge feature under current and former names. Microsoft renamed Web Capture to Screenshot; the shortcut remains Ctrl+Shift+S.

Can I capture an X video as a playable video file?
Edge Screenshot creates a still image. It can show a video frame that is visible at capture time, but it is not a video-recording tool.
Where are Edge screenshots saved?
Edge lets you copy the result or save it after reviewing the capture. The exact folder depends on the save choice and your browser’s download settings.
