The most reliable documented desktop method is Firefox: open the Medium story, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page for the entire article or Save visible for only the current viewport. On an iPhone, Safari can capture an entire webpage and lets you crop the result. Medium itself does not provide one universal screenshot workflow, so the controls depend on your device and browser.
Choose the capture you actually need
Decide whether you need the whole story, what is currently visible, or a smaller excerpt. A full-page image is useful for archiving a long article or showing the complete context. A visible-area capture is usually easier to read when you are sharing one paragraph, chart, or image. A selected region gives you the most control over what appears in the final file.
- Full page: captures content below the viewport, including the rest of a long Medium story.
- Visible area: captures only what is on screen now.
- Region or crop: keeps a particular passage while excluding navigation, recommendations, or unrelated text.
Make sure the story has loaded before capturing it. If the page contains images or embedded media that are still loading, wait until the material you need is visible. A screenshot records what the browser rendered; it does not create a new, text-searchable copy of the article.
How to take a full-page screenshot of a Medium article in Firefox
Mozilla documents both full-page and visible screenshots in Firefox. The method works from the article page and does not require a Medium account feature or a browser extension.

- Open the Medium story in Firefox on Windows, Linux, or macOS.
- Right-click an empty area of the page. Avoid selecting text, an image, or a link.
- Choose Take Screenshot from the context menu.
- Select Save full page to include the entire page, including content below the current viewport.
- When you need only what is currently displayed, choose Save visible instead.
- Download the image, or use the screenshot controls to copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox also documents keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl + Shift + S on Windows and Linux, and Command + Shift + S on macOS. If the shortcut does not open the tool, click the page first and confirm that Firefox has focus, then use the context-menu route.
Capture only part of the story
For an excerpt, open Take Screenshot and select the region you want rather than saving the entire page. Keep the selection large enough to include the paragraph’s heading or other context. A narrow crop can remove the attribution, date, or image caption that explains what the excerpt means.
Save or copy the result
Firefox’s screenshot panel lets you download the result as an image or copy it to the clipboard. Downloading is better for a file you will attach, upload, or archive. Clipboard copying is convenient when you are pasting the capture into a document or message immediately. Check the destination application after pasting: some applications resize large images or convert them to another format.

Apple documents full-webpage screenshots in Safari. The full-page view can then be cropped to a smaller portion of the page.

- Open the Medium story in Safari on your iPhone.
- Take a normal iPhone screenshot using your model’s hardware-button shortcut.
- Open the screenshot preview and choose the full-page webpage option when it is offered.
- Use the crop controls if you want to keep only a passage, image, or other section.
- Save or share the finished capture from the iPhone screenshot interface.
The exact button sequence for taking the initial screenshot differs by iPhone model, so follow Apple’s current iPhone instructions for your device. The documented full-page capability is for a webpage in Safari. Do not assume the same option appears in the Medium app or in every other iOS browser.
When the iPhone full-page option is missing
- Confirm that the page is open in Safari rather than the Medium app.
- Take the screenshot after the story has finished loading.
- Look for the full-page tab in the screenshot editor before saving.
- If the page is not recognized as a webpage, save a visible screenshot and capture additional sections separately.
Several separate screenshots can be a more readable alternative to one extremely tall image. Name them in order so a recipient can follow the article from top to bottom.

Firefox offers the clearest documented choice between a whole page and the current viewport, plus direct clipboard output. Safari is useful when you are already reading on an iPhone and need a long webpage capture, but the full-page control is tied to Safari’s webpage screenshot flow.
Medium’s supported reading platforms
Medium lists the two most recent versions of Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge on Windows and macOS for its full desktop experience. Its help material recommends the Medium app for the best mobile reading experience; the iOS app supports devices using the last two iOS operating systems, and the Android app requires Android 6.0 or later. Those statements describe reading-platform support, not a promise that every browser or app exposes the same screenshot controls.

Medium’s support guidance also asks people to attach screenshots or screen recordings when possible to help reproduce a reported issue. A capture can therefore be a useful diagnostic artifact: include the address bar or other identifying context when support needs to know which page you saw, but crop private information before sharing it publicly.
Quality, privacy, and sharing checks
Make long captures readable
- Use the full-page mode only when readers need the complete article; a very tall image can be difficult to inspect on a phone.
- For a quote, capture the heading and enough surrounding text to establish context.
- Check the bottom of a full-page result for cut-off paragraphs, unloaded images, or a footer that was not part of the story.
- Prefer the original downloaded image over a screenshot of a screenshot, which introduces another round of scaling and compression.
Remove information you should not share
Review the image before posting it. Browser tabs, account names, notification banners, private messages, email addresses, and personalized recommendations can appear around an article. Crop or redact them. If the story is behind a paywall or otherwise restricted, follow the author’s and Medium’s terms when deciding what to distribute.
Preserve context
Record the article URL and capture date separately if you are keeping the image as a reference. A screenshot shows a page at one moment; it does not prove that the text will remain unchanged or that every reader will see the same recommendations, paywall state, or personalization.

Troubleshooting
“Take Screenshot” is not in Firefox’s menu
Click an empty part of the webpage and try again, or use the documented keyboard shortcut for your operating system. A context menu opened over a link or selected text can show different commands.
The full-page image stops early
Wait for the story and its images to finish loading, then repeat the capture. If the page changes as you scroll, save several visible sections instead of relying on one capture of a dynamically changing page.
The iPhone does not show a full-page choice
Use Safari’s webpage view, not the Medium app, and check the screenshot editor immediately after taking the capture. If the option still is not offered, use visible screenshots and crop them individually.

Crop the capture, redact sensitive text, and inspect the edges before sharing. If you need support to reproduce a problem, keep a private original and make a separate redacted copy.
