For a screenshot that includes an entire webpage from its top to its bottom on Ubuntu, use Firefox’s built-in Take Screenshot command and choose Save full page. This captures the web document, not merely the pixels currently visible on your monitor. Right-click an empty part of the page, select Take Screenshot (or press Ctrl+Shift+S), then select Save full page and save or copy the result.
What “full page” means on Ubuntu
Ubuntu’s desktop screenshot utility and a browser’s full-page capture solve different problems. The desktop tool can capture a selected region, an application window, or the entire screen. It does not document a scrolling-webpage mode that combines content below the viewport. A browser full-page screenshot instead asks Firefox to render the page from the top through its document height, including material you would reach by scrolling.
- Entire screen: captures what is visible on your display.
- Window: captures the selected application window.
- Selected area: captures a rectangle you draw.
- Full page: captures the webpage document, including content below the visible browser area.
Ubuntu’s ordinary screenshot images are automatically saved in Pictures/Screenshots and copied to the clipboard. Use that workflow for desktop or app captures; use Firefox’s full-page feature for a webpage that extends beyond the viewport.
Method 1: Firefox’s page menu (recommended)
- Open the target webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty area of the page. Avoid right-clicking an image, link, form control, or embedded frame if you want the page context menu.
- Select Take Screenshot. You can also open the same screenshot workflow with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- In the capture interface, choose Save full page in the upper-right area. Do not choose Save visible; that option records only the current viewport.
- Use the available controls to save the image to disk or copy it, then open the file to verify that the bottom of the document is present.
This is the clearest route for most Ubuntu users because it requires no configuration and starts directly from the page being captured.

When the page changes while capturing
Pages that load content as you scroll, use animated advertisements, or require interaction can produce a result that differs from a static first view. Let the initial page finish loading before starting. If a section appears only after you click a control, perform that action first. For very dynamic pages, capture after animations settle and check the saved image rather than assuming every lazy-loaded element was rendered.
Method 2: Firefox Developer Tools
Developer Tools provides a second full-page route. It is useful when DevTools is already open or when you prefer a toolbox button.
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open the Developer Tools settings.
- Find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Close settings if necessary; a screenshot icon now appears in the toolbox.
- Click the icon while the target page is active.
Mozilla’s documentation says this Developer Tools capture is saved in Firefox’s Downloads directory. Button names and their placement can move between Firefox releases, so match the labels shown by your installed version.

Why Ubuntu’s Screenshot app is not enough for a webpage
The Ubuntu screenshot interface is appropriate for a monitor, window, or selected rectangle. A browser window that displays only the upper portion of a long article is still just a visible window; capturing it will not automatically include the parts below the fold. Scroll-and-stitch workflows can work, but they are slower and can introduce seams, repeated fixed headers, or missing lazy-loaded content. Firefox’s document-aware capture avoids that manual process for ordinary webpages.

Check the result before you share it
- Open the image and inspect the beginning, middle, and bottom of the page.
- Confirm that fixed navigation bars have not been duplicated at every scroll position.
- Check images and charts that load late; refresh and recapture if they are blank.
- For a page with sensitive information, review the whole image—not only the visible portion—before uploading it.
- Use a descriptive filename that includes the site and capture date so later versions are distinguishable.
Troubleshooting full-page captures
“Take Screenshot” is missing from the context menu
Make sure you right-clicked the page itself rather than a browser toolbar, an image, or an embedded object. Press Ctrl+Shift+S to open Firefox’s screenshot workflow directly. If the command is still unavailable, update or restart Firefox and try a normal webpage tab.
The image contains only the visible area
In the capture interface, choose Save full page, not Save visible. These are separate choices and the latter intentionally excludes content below the viewport.
The bottom of the page is blank or incomplete
Some sites fetch content only after scrolling, clicking, signing in, or waiting for a request. Perform the required interaction, wait for the page to finish loading, and capture again. If the content is behind a login or permission boundary, Firefox cannot include what the current session cannot access.
A very long page is difficult to inspect
Open the file in an image viewer that supports zoom and fit-to-window modes. If the webpage is better represented as a document, consider a PDF workflow instead of one extremely tall raster image.

The Developer Tools button is not visible
Return to Developer Tools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons. Firefox releases can rearrange toolbox controls, so look for the exact label rather than a fixed icon position.
Performance, format and reliability considerations
Capture time and file size depend on page length, image dimensions, fonts, and the number of resources the page loads. A full-page image can be much larger than a viewport screenshot, especially on a high-density display. Keep the original when you need an audit record, and create a resized copy for email or documentation.
For repeatable work, use a stable browser window size, wait for network activity to settle, and capture the same page state each time. Record whether you were signed in, which consent choices you made, and whether the page was interactive; those conditions can change the rendered result. Firefox’s menu labels may change in later releases, but the distinction between full-page and visible-area capture remains the key choice.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response reports the result in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
For a one-off Ubuntu capture, Firefox is simpler. ScreenshotNeo becomes useful when you need repeatable, scriptable captures, PDF output, bulk URLs, or an AI agent. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Where does the Developer Tools capture go?
Mozilla documents that the Developer Tools route saves the image in Firefox’s Downloads directory.
Is a full-page screenshot the same as a PDF?
No. A screenshot is a raster image of the rendered page. A PDF is a paginated document and may be more practical for printing or text extraction.
Can Firefox capture content I cannot access?
No. The browser can capture only the page state available in the current tab, including its login and permission state.
