To save a Facebook post as an image, open it on your phone or computer and use the device’s built-in screenshot feature. Frame the capture so the post’s wording and any author, date, or surrounding context you need remain visible, then save or share the image. For an archive of your own Facebook account information, use Facebook’s information-download tools instead; an export is not a picture of how a post appeared on screen.
Choose a screenshot or an account export

Facebook’s information tools let you choose all categories or selected categories and date ranges. Pick a screenshot when appearance and visible context matter; pick an export when you need your own account data in a broader archive.
Capture a Facebook post on Windows
Use Snipping Tool
- Open Facebook and bring the post into view. Adjust the browser window and page zoom so the part you need is readable.
- Open Snipping Tool and select New.
- Drag around the post and any relevant context, such as its author or date.
- Save the capture. Facebook’s help instructions use PNG as an example format.
Use Print Screen
- Display the post in the position you want to capture.
- Press Print Screen on the keyboard.
- Paste the captured screen into an app such as Paint or PowerPoint, crop it if needed, and save the image.
These are built-in Windows workflows; you do not need dedicated screenshot software for a basic capture. Keyboard behavior can depend on the computer and Windows configuration, so if Print Screen does not act as expected, use Snipping Tool instead.

- Open the post and arrange the page so the details you want are visible.
- Press Command-Shift-4 to select an area, then drag over the post.
- Alternatively, press Command-Shift-5 to open the screen-capture controls. Choose the full screen, a selected portion, or a still-image capture as appropriate.
- Check the saved image and recapture if text or identifying context is too small or missing.
The exact controls and save behavior can vary with macOS version and settings. If the shortcut differs on your Mac, use the capture controls available in your current system.

Capture a Facebook post on iPhone or iPad
- Open the post in the Facebook app or a browser and position it as needed.
- On many current iPhones and iPads without a Home button, press the side or top power button and volume-up together. Some older devices use the power and Home buttons.
- Open the resulting image in Photos to check the crop and save or share it.
Button combinations depend on device generation. The screenshot is stored with your photos, though album labels and the capture flow can differ by software version. If neither combination works, check the current instructions for your device model.
Capture a Facebook post on Android
- Open and position the post so its relevant details are on screen.
- On most Android phones, press power and volume-down together. Some models use power and Home.
- Review the image in your phone’s screenshot notification, Photos app, or gallery, then save or share it.
Android manufacturers can change button combinations and screenshot controls. Samsung’s older Android 10.0 (Q) instructions also describe a Quick Panel screen-recorder workflow, but that records video rather than making the still image needed for a post screenshot. Use your phone’s current screenshot control for a still capture.
Frame the image so it remains useful
A screenshot only preserves what is included in the captured area. Before saving, decide what someone viewing the image will need to understand the post:

- Keep the relevant wording legible. Zoom in if the text is too small, but avoid cropping away the context that explains what it refers to.
- Include identifying context when appropriate. The author or page name, date, and nearby discussion may matter for your purpose.
- Capture the whole relevant post. If it extends beyond the screen, take more than one capture or use a suitable full-page method, while making clear that separate images are separate portions.
- Inspect the saved file. Check for clipped text, overlays, or details that were below the visible area before sending it to someone else.
This is practical framing advice, not a guarantee that a screenshot is complete or an independently authenticated record. A screenshot shows a selected display at a moment in time; it does not establish everything about a post or its history.
Sharing, audience settings, and permission
Taking a screenshot does not change a post’s audience or make it public. Facebook’s privacy and visibility guidance explains that audience settings apply to posts and other profile content. If you share a screenshot, consider who can see the original and whether the image itself reveals names, profile details, or other information you did not intend to distribute.
A screenshot also does not grant permission to republish someone else’s content. Whether reuse is allowed depends on the circumstances and applicable rules; the available Facebook guidance does not establish a universal legal rule. For a one-post visual capture, use the device controls above rather than automated collection. Facebook’s scraping guidance distinguishes authorized and unauthorized automated collection and advises attention to privacy and sharing settings.

Troubleshooting
The shortcut does nothing
Try the platform’s other documented capture route: Snipping Tool on Windows, Command-Shift-5 on Mac, or the device-specific screenshot control on a phone. Mobile button combinations vary by model and generation.
The screenshot cuts off part of the post
The image includes only the selected area or visible screen. Reposition the page and capture the missing portion, or reduce zoom enough to fit the relevant content. Do not assume a single screen capture includes material below the fold.
The text is too small to read
Zoom in before capturing, then select a tighter area around the post. If author or date context matters, keep those details in frame rather than cropping to text alone.

The screenshot looks different from the post later
A screenshot records the display at capture time, not a live copy. It may omit content that was not visible, and a post or its audience may change afterward. If you need your own account information rather than a visual record, consider Facebook’s information-download tools.
A website screenshot API cannot capture the post
The page may not be publicly accessible, may require a signed-in session, or may fail to load. Use the Facebook app or browser and the built-in screenshot controls for restricted content.
