Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use your browser’s built-in full-page capture: in Microsoft Edge, open Screenshot or Web capture and choose Capture full page; in Firefox, choose Take Screenshot and then Save full page. Both capture beyond the visible screen without requiring you to scroll and stitch screenshots together. If you need a repeatable, automated capture rather than a one-off image, an API is another option.
Start with your browser’s built-in full-page capture
For a one-off screenshot, try the browser’s own tool before installing an extension. Edge and Firefox both document a way to capture the whole page, but their controls and output choices differ. Full-page capture produces a long image of the page; it does not create an interactive copy of the website.
Capture a full page in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Open Settings and more (the three-dot menu) and choose Web capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Depending on the version or interface, the feature may be labelled Screenshot or Web capture. You can also look for the feature in the webpage’s right-click menu.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review the capture. Use the available markup controls if you want to annotate it, then save it or copy it.
Edge also offers a selected-area workflow. Choose the area-capture option when you need only part of a page rather than its full length. Menu names and availability can vary by device, market, and browser version, so if the documented label is missing, check for the similarly named Screenshot or Web capture option.
Capture a full page in Mozilla Firefox
- Open the webpage, then right-click an empty area of it and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page. Do not choose Save visible unless you only want the portion currently on screen.
- Download the screenshot as a PNG, or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s built-in route is useful when you want an image file or a quick clipboard copy without adding an extension. If you need a more technical route, Firefox Developer Tools also provides full-page capture controls.

Firefox’s Developer Tools alternatives
Use the screenshot button
In Firefox Developer Tools, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons. The screenshot button then provides a full-page capture route from the toolbox. This is a useful fallback if you already work in Developer Tools or want to keep the capture workflow there.
Use the Web Console helper
Firefox’s Web Console includes a :screenshot helper. Add --fullpage to request a full-page screenshot. Its documented options also include a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard output, and targeting a CSS selector. These options make the helper more configurable than the basic menu flow, but they require comfort with the browser’s developer tools and command syntax. Consult Firefox’s current developer documentation for the exact option syntax for your version.

Which method should you choose?
| Method | How to open it | Documented output or use | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edge Web capture / Screenshot | Ctrl+Shift+S, the webpage’s context menu, or Settings and more > Web capture | Full-page or selected-area capture; review, mark up, save, or copy | A quick capture in Edge |
| Firefox Take Screenshot | Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux; Command+Shift+S on macOS; or right-click an empty area | Save the full page as PNG or copy it; Save visible is a separate option | A quick image file or clipboard copy in Firefox |
| Firefox Developer Tools | Enable the full-page screenshot toolbox button or use :screenshot --fullpage in the Web Console |
Developer-tools capture; the console helper has options for delay, scale, filename, clipboard, and CSS selector | More control or a workflow already centered on Developer Tools |
| GoFullPage extension | Toolbar icon or Alt+Shift+P | PNG, JPEG, or PDF export; exceptionally large captures may be split into multiple images | An alternate workflow when native browser capture does not suit the task |
Choose based on what you need after capture. Firefox’s built-in tool explicitly offers PNG and clipboard output; Edge’s documented workflow offers save and copy. If PDF export matters, GoFullPage’s Firefox Add-ons listing describes it as an option. These tools are not identical, and the extension’s behavior should not be assumed to match a browser-native capture.
What to expect on long or complex pages
A full-page screenshot is a picture of the rendered page, not a saved website. Text and links in the resulting image are not individually clickable. If the page is unusually long, has content that appears only as you scroll, or contains elements that move while the page is being captured, the final result may differ from what you expected. Check the image before sharing it, especially near the bottom and around embedded or dynamically changing content.

Firefox’s Developer Tools helper exposes delay and device-pixel-ratio options, which can be useful when a page needs time to settle or when you want to adjust capture scale. The available documentation does not establish that every browser method handles every interactive page or site the same way. If a native capture is incomplete, try the Developer Tools route in Firefox or compare the result with an alternate workflow rather than assuming all capture methods behave identically.
When an extension is a reasonable fallback
GoFullPage is an optional extension route. Its Firefox Add-ons listing says to click the toolbar icon or use Alt+Shift+P. It captures portions of the page while scrolling, then opens a tab for download; the listing describes PNG, JPEG, and PDF exports. It also notes that exceptionally large captures may be split across multiple images.

Before installing any extension, review its current marketplace listing for permissions, privacy statements, and browser compatibility. GoFullPage’s listing describes the developer’s data position, including that data collection is not required; that is a developer-reported statement, not an independent privacy audit, and it should not be generalized to other extensions or versions. Its Chrome Web Store listing shows version 8.7 dated August 11, 2026, and version 8.6 dated January 14, 2026. Recent listing releases do not guarantee compatibility with every site or browser setup.

If you are building a workflow that needs screenshots on demand, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF from one API request. It is a developer tool, not a replacement for the browser steps above when you simply want to save a page manually. The example below requests a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you need and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

Troubleshooting full-page captures
- The shortcut does not open capture: Use the browser menu instead. In Edge, look under Settings and more for Web capture or Screenshot; in Firefox, use the page’s right-click menu and choose Take Screenshot. Shortcuts and menu labels can differ with platform, browser version, and interface changes.
- You only got the visible part: In Edge, select Capture full page, not a selected area. In Firefox, choose Save full page, not Save visible.
- The page is too long for one convenient image: Check whether the extension workflow is more suitable; GoFullPage’s listing says exceptionally large captures may be split into multiple images. If you use Firefox Developer Tools, its screenshot helper includes a CSS-selector option that can target a relevant element instead of the whole page.
- The capture looks incomplete or changes during capture: Allow the page to settle and inspect the saved result. Firefox’s console helper includes a delay option; the available instructions do not guarantee that every site’s dynamic content will be captured consistently.
- You need a different file format: Firefox’s built-in screenshot flow documents PNG and clipboard output. GoFullPage’s listing describes PNG, JPEG, and PDF export. Pick a workflow that explicitly offers the format you need rather than assuming all browsers provide the same exports.
- You are unsure whether to install an extension: Read the current marketplace listing’s permissions and privacy statements first. The developer’s statement about GoFullPage is not an independent audit and does not establish what other extensions collect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot preserve the webpage as an editable or interactive file?
No. It is a screenshot image of the rendered page, not a copy of the underlying site with working links or editable page elements.
