To capture an entire webpage, use your browser or phone’s built-in full-page command. Chrome and Edge can create one tall image from a page, Firefox offers a “Save full page” mode, Safari on iPhone can save a full webpage as a PDF, and many Android phones provide “Scroll capture” or “Capture more.”
These methods work best on finite pages. Scroll once first when the site loads images or text on demand, and expect problems with cookie banners, sticky headers, animations, and endless feeds.
What a whole-page screenshot contains
A normal screenshot records only the visible viewport. A whole-page capture combines the content above and below it into one tall image or document. It is useful for archiving an article, documenting a design, sharing a support page, or reviewing a landing page without sending many separate images.
Full-page capture is not the same as recording an infinite-scroll app. A feed that keeps generating items may never have a practical endpoint; a short screen recording while scrolling can communicate that sequence better than an extremely tall image.

Google Chrome
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Open DevTools: press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the DevTools command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+P (macOS).
- Search for screenshot.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot, not the viewport-only option.
Chrome creates an image containing content that is not currently visible. Save it from the download prompt or your normal downloads folder. If the result is missing images, scroll through the page first, wait for each section to render, and run the command again.

Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the browser menu or page context menu and select Screenshot.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review the capture, annotate it if necessary, then copy or save it.
Edge’s full-page mode is designed to capture an entire webpage, including content extending beyond the screen. Very long pages can produce a large file, so use an image editor to crop irrelevant sections before sharing.
Firefox
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page.
- Save the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox also offers visible-area and selected-region modes. If you use Developer Tools, enable the optional full-page screenshot button from the toolbox settings, then use that button for the same type of capture.
Capture a whole page on phones
iPhone Safari
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware buttons.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
- Select Full Page at the top of the preview.
- Use the crop controls if needed, then save or share the result.
Safari’s Full Page view captures beyond the bottom edge of the screen. Depending on the page and your iOS version, the full-page result is normally saved as a PDF rather than a single PNG. This is useful for reading and printing, but less convenient when you need one image for a social post.

Android phones
- Open the page in a browser and take a screenshot with your phone’s screenshot shortcut.
- Immediately look for Scroll capture, Capture more, Extended screenshot, or similar.
- Tap the control and continue extending the capture until the required section is included.
- Save, crop, or share the result.
The exact label, placement, maximum length, and supported apps vary by manufacturer and Android version. Samsung commonly labels the feature Scroll capture; other phones may use different wording or omit it in particular apps. If no extension control appears, the browser or device may not support scrolling capture for that page.
Prepare a page before you capture it
Force lazy-loaded content to appear
Many pages request images, videos, or text only when a section approaches the viewport. Scroll from top to bottom once, pause where content is loading, and then return to the top before taking the full-page shot. Otherwise, the capture may contain blank image areas or placeholders.
Handle overlays and moving elements
- Dismiss cookie or consent banners before capturing when they obscure content.
- Close newsletter popups and chat widgets if they cover the page.
- Pause carousels or animations when the controls allow it; a moving frame can be captured inconsistently.
- Watch for sticky headers. Stitching may duplicate a header at several points or hide text beneath it.
Decide whether one image is appropriate
A very tall PNG can be difficult to view, print, or upload. For documentation, a PDF or several logical sections may be more readable. For an infinite-scroll feed, capture the important range or record a short scrolling video instead of trying to create an unbounded image.

When full-page capture fails
The screenshot stops at the viewport
Use the browser’s explicitly named full-page command: Chrome’s Capture a full size screenshot, Edge’s Capture full page, or Firefox’s Save full page. A regular operating-system screenshot cannot include content it did not capture.

Scroll through the complete page first and wait for network activity to settle. Some interactive components render only after a click, so open accordions, tabs, or menus before capturing if their content is part of the record.
The page is duplicated or misaligned
Disable or dismiss sticky elements where possible, stop animations, and try a different browser. Fixed-position navigation, continuously changing ads, and scripts that modify layout while the browser stitches the page are common causes.
The capture is too large to save or share
Reduce the page to the relevant section, export as a PDF when available, or resize the image after capture. A shorter, readable document is often more useful than a single enormous bitmap.

The site never finishes loading
Check the page in a private window, disable a conflicting extension, and retry after the main content appears. If the site requires a login, make sure the session is still valid; a capture service or browser without that session may receive a sign-in page instead.

- Page length: Full-page images consume more memory and take longer to encode than viewport shots. Prefer PDF or a targeted element for very long documents.
- Dynamic content: Set an appropriate wait condition so charts, fonts, and lazy images finish rendering. A network-idle wait can be slower than a short fixed delay but is usually more predictable for busy pages.
- Authentication: Pass the required cookies, headers, user agent, or Authorization value when the page is not public. Never place secrets in a public image URL.
- Repeat jobs: Use a cache TTL for unchanged pages, asynchronous jobs and signed webhooks for slow captures, and bulk capture for many URLs.

Can I capture a page that requires scrolling inside a panel?
Browser full-page commands target the document, not every nested scrollable panel. Scroll the panel separately or capture its element with an automation tool that supports a CSS selector.
Why does my full-page image look different from what I saw?
Responsive layouts can change with viewport width, and dynamic ads, animations, or delayed scripts may render a different frame. Keep the viewport stable, wait for content, and disable moving elements where possible.
Should I save a full webpage as an image or PDF?
Choose an image for visual comparison or a single shareable graphic. Choose PDF when the page is extremely long, needs printing, or must remain selectable and easier to paginate.
